Burress - Disliked. Sanchez, Revis, Scott - Overrated.

I came across some interesting poll results having to do with some of our own favorite Jets.

"Based on recent polls and market research...56 percent of casual-to-serious fans dislike Plaxico Burress."

This makes Burress the second most disliked player right after another man who spent some time in jail, Michael Vick, who pulled in an impressive 60 percent.

Star-divide

In a separate poll that included 111 players from 31 teams asking "Who is the most overrated player?" Mark Sanchez came in 3rd with 9 votes after Tim Tebow (22 votes) and Tony Romo (21 votes)

Both Darrelle Revis and Bart Scott were tied for 9th most overrated player with two votes a piece along with Phillip Rivers, Darnell Docket, Maurice Jones-DrewDeAngelo HallEli ManningBrandon Marshall, and Brian Urlacher.

What do you think?

Writers Note: All players included in the poll below received at least 2 votes. Thirteen other players received one vote.

not your poll just to clarify lol

but I voted for Kolb because he’s nothing better than a backup and he is consistently getting starter-hype

No worries...

…I understood what you meant. I voted for Kolb too lol.

Revis is only on that list because stevie johnson got a 52 yard catch on him when the jets were def on cruise control…i bet you that stevie johnson will be without a catch the next time the jets face the bills 3 weeks from now…revis remembers everything…which is bad for a wr the second time he faces them

by dj_agni on Nov 7, 2011 9:19 PM EST reply actions

Yup.

Stevie screwed himself with that catch. AND Revis is going to have extra prep time bc we play them on a Sunday after a Thursday.

by Crackback on Nov 7, 2011 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

Also remember Revis never played Stevie before that game.

Fitz would be very ignorant to think attacking Revis would be a good idea in 3 weeks. That being said, attacking Wilson was also highly ignorant last week.

Anybody who thinks Revis is overrated doesn’t know what the heck they are talking about. Period.

Tim Tebow BY FAR

and I actually like Tebow. I think, in time, he can become a solid QB. But the media treats him like he’s awesome, and it’s sickening because he sucks right now.

by J-Nasty on Nov 7, 2011 10:51 PM EST reply actions

I think he gets plenty of media scorn.

The problem is they so want him to be good, that the bias seeps through alot more then not.

by Timmaht on Nov 8, 2011 8:04 AM EST up reply actions

I don't think anyone in the media is saying Tebow is good as a QB

They like him as a person, but no expert likes him as a quarterback. How can he be overrated then?

I voted Ochocinco although I considered Tebow

Ochocinco because his career seems basically shot, went from #1 WR to completely expendable. Tebow, while I don’t like him and feel he’s overhyped, has actually managed to lead the Broncos to some victories and has plenty of (justified) critics.
Kolb has also been overhyped by some but once again, he has plenty of detractors so I don’t think he’s overall that highly rated.

Bart Scott is definitely overrated though

Maybe not so much overrated, but definitely overpaid. I don’t think anyone really thinks he’s a really good player.

Sanchez is what everyone says he is, a mediocre numbers QB who manages the game and has a knack for coming through in the clutch. Not sure how it’s overrated, if anything he’s underrated.

Revis is arguably the best non-QB player in football. Anyone calling him overrated is out of their minds.

by J-Nasty on Nov 7, 2011 10:56 PM EST reply actions

Agreed, whether Scott is overrated is debatable. But certainly overpaid. And how can Revis be overrated if he’s the best at his position? Which isn’t really arguable. If he maintains this level of play he’ll be the best to play his position in a loooong time

by nationalist88 on Nov 22, 2011 2:23 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry but anyone who thinks Tebow is overrated isn’t paying attention, because NOBODY, even the people who love him, like myself, know he is not a good quarterback right now. To be overrated people have to think you’re great, and nobody thinks he’s a great quarterback at this moment.

The media treats him like he's a demigod

And they are the ones largely responsible for “rating” people. I had to turn off ESPN for a week after the Broncos win over the Dolphins because they were blowing him so much.

haha Tebow threw 10-21 last week and he's glorified.

Sanchez throws like that… He sucks. i like tebow, but hes just a college product IMO. Hope he proves me wrong.

by jets4life24 on Nov 8, 2011 6:45 PM EST up reply actions

Sanchez puts up those numbers everyone will be sounding the panic alarm, calling for his replacement within the hour. Saying he is not who we thought he was…or something like that.

by Melrenee on Nov 9, 2011 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

Au contraire

Tebow’s career QB rating: 79.8

Sanchez’s career QB rating: 72.9

We are on the subject of “overrated”, after all…

Tony Romo by far

If he wasn’t on the Cowboys he wouldn’t get the treatment he gets

Insert witty signature here

by BlueChill on Nov 7, 2011 11:38 PM EST reply actions

Romo's play reminds me of Sanchez's if Sanchez was asked to throw more often.

Sadly, I’m being serious here. Sanchez and Romo both have trouble seeing the field at some points and make very glaring errors. The difference being Sanchez is only in his third year, Romo his ninth. Romo gets more hype because he puts up bigger numbers, which has alot to do with his teams emphasis on the pass, but he also makes more of those head pounding mistakes.

by Timmaht on Nov 8, 2011 8:08 AM EST up reply actions

Romo runs into most of his trouble

In the 4th quarter. Sanchez does not seem to have that problem. People make the Romo/Sanchez comparison quite often, but I don’t think their styles are very similar. Maybe I don’t watch enough Dallas and when I do I’m usually rooting against them:)

Heh. I’d love to see where Roethlisberger ranks on the ‘hated’ list.

Shoot a puppy, you’re number one. Shoot yourself in the leg, you’re number two. Two attempted rapes in two offseasons… honorable mention?

by SioneBAAOOOHA on Nov 7, 2011 11:54 PM EST reply actions

"Big" Ben is third

I think it’s messed up that shooting yourself in the leg is deemed on the same level as running a dog fighting ring or successfully buying a police department to watch the door while you rape a girl.

Tebow is most overrated, IMO

He gets so much praise for doing what every other QB in the league would get killed for. A fullback who can throw(sort of). I am very anxious for the Denver game, would love to see him try to run on us. BTW, I don’t think Sanchez is overrated in the least, I think he’s doing well for us.

by Melrenee on Nov 8, 2011 1:23 AM EST reply actions

I think

people are misinterpreting overrated. Kolb and Tebow are both pretty bad, and most non Jets fans only know Scott for his mouth. Likewise, Chris Johnson is having a terrible year. If going on current reputation, I’d have to say Philip Rivers – despite putting up big yardage numbers like he always does, he leads the league in ints (14) and has been making some pretty stupid decisions all around (see dropped snap!).

by Jabualj on Nov 8, 2011 3:04 AM EST reply actions

Couldn't agree more on this years stats.

But Rivers, based on the body of work is just having a bad year. Someone like Romo is know for his inconsistencies and mental lapses. This is all the more important for Sanchez to get over these same flaws and become a more consistant QB.

by Timmaht on Nov 8, 2011 8:11 AM EST up reply actions

Revis overrated? Really?

Seeing Revis on this list is laughable. Revis is BY FAR, WITHOUT ANY DOUBT, the BEST cornerback to ever play the game. Period. Yea i know deion this, and deion that. Yeah deion was unreal, but nobody has ever played with the consistency and intimidation that revis plays with. He takes the best receiver and removes him from the equation, plain and simple.

by NYJallday on Nov 8, 2011 3:48 PM EST reply actions

I thought a lot of the names on that list are not overrated.

I think Big Ben is overrated and he isn’t on the list. People always come back to the rings argument, which I think is just stupid. If you have a ring it means you were a part of a great team, Ben had some good defenses, when he won those rings. I also think Vick might be overrated, he’s a tremendous athlete, but a mediocre quarterback. Matty “ice” is also treading overrated waters.

by Clarke W. Griswald on Nov 8, 2011 9:34 PM EST reply actions

My dad has been saying Matty was overrated forever

But granted he’s a Saints fan so he may be only “slightly” biased lol.

by Melrenee on Nov 9, 2011 10:42 AM EST up reply actions

Sorry I can't agree with you on Big Ben

He is by far my favorite QB ON THE FIELD.
People used to say the same things about Ben they now say about Sanchez. Bottom line is he is a tough guy who finds a way to win just like Sanchez. Ben never gets respect because he isn’t pretty like Brady, Peyton and Rodgers so I don’t see how he is overrated.
Okay I’m done ranting for now…..

Sometimes people really just don't know...

I think sometimes people call players overrated when they really don’t know or aren’t aware of all the things that a player does. Here is a prime example of why anybody thinks Revis is overrated…I work with quite a few Cowboys fans. All of them thought Revis was covering Dez Bryant the entire game. I explained to them that the majority of Bryant’s production was against Cromartie and they tried to argue that Dez only stopped producing after he got hurt. I let it be known to them that Bryant found himself on the island before that injury and the reason Austin was nowhere to be seen earlier was because Revis was on him initially and once Revis was put on Bryant then Austin began producing. The casual onloooker would not really notice that switch happened and would just look at Bryants final numbers and assume Revis gave up all of that production. Overall the casual onlooker would not realize that Revis is the most balanced/complete CB in the league and possibly ever.

This wasn't a fan vote...

NFL players casted the votes.
