Today was a great win. The Jets played the most complete game they have all season: the defense finally reached its potential, the offense played very well, and special teams was great as always. That said, I'm sure everybody saw the Jets line up in a Wildcat formation with about three minutes to go in the game. Sanchez was a receiver with Joe McKnight taking the direct snap. After the Bills CB faked a bump at the line, Sanchez jumped back with his hands up (video link found below):
Now that's pretty funny, but we should expect a lot of crap for it. To add insult to injury, Sanchez came back for the CB, Drayton Florence, and ended up with a holding penalty, erasing McKnight's 18 yard, first down run.
We're Jets fans. We've been through some embarrassing stuff. Between the annual Super Bowl guarantees, the intentional baiting of divisional rivals, and the foot fetishes, we've hold our heads up because, godsnackit, we're Jets fans. While this is play is going to be on 'C'mon Man', it's something we can embrace. The thousands of articles mocking Sanchez are already up online, but who cares? We have a California boy quarterbacking us, and while he doesn't want to get jammed at the line, he is willing to go after a cornerback and hold him until the offense has what it needs. I still laugh every time I see this play because I think it's got personality (the Jet-i-tude Sione Pouha talked about), which is something the Jets have more than enough of.
New England can swagger in next week after attacking Sanchez for being a wimp. You know what? Last time I checked, our quarterback was not the poster boy for Uggs. And so what if he didn't take a hit at the line? He still went after the dude (a 6 foot, 195 pound guy, too) and FREAKING HELD HIM. So thank you, Mark Sanchez, for making me laugh and for showing Jets fans that we do indeed cheer for the right team. And of course, as always, J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!
