Jets Sign OT Austin Howard to 53-man Roster
The Jets have signed OT Austin Howard to the 53-man roster. Howard comes from the Ravens practice squad, and as such, is required to be signed to the active roster for a minimum of four games. Howard is a second year player out of Northern Iowa and was initially signed by the Eagles. He is 6'7" and 333 pounds. He appears to be extremely coachable, as he willingly lost 15 pounds to fit into Howard Mudd's system in Philadelphia before being cut during the final round.
I'm happy to see the FO addressing the weak depth, even if it is a bit late in the season. Our line could use all the help it can get right now.

At least they addressed it. Better late than never, cause if the season is the way of the dodo we can use the later games to test him at Tackle, and if he is coachable it gives him a TC and a half to beat Wayne Hunter and Ducasse like drums and get into starting rotation.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

trufant was rotated less than the others.
Oh you can start adding Eddie Jones to that soon he’s back on the PS after being on the active in preseason, then PS then active, then PS again

That's unfair
MTV sure as s*** should be on the roster, but unfortunately we carry way too many DBs for that to happen.

I hope he starts pushing Hunter and Ducasse
They hopefully should start feeling some pressure to get their s*** together. Or maybe Howard turns out to be better than either of them! I like the signing regardless. The writing is now on the wall.

Austin Howard, possible player, crazy optimism again.
Austin Howard 6’7 335 RT Undrafted Free Agent, out of Northern Iowa, makes the Eagles 53, and starts four games in 2010. IMO thats a great accomplishment for Austin. Philadelphia for years had these huge offensive lines decided to go in a different direction with Howard Mudd as Offensive Line Coach in 2011. Howard is about 70, had a distinguished career as an Offensive lineman, was a journeyman OL line coach until he worked for the Colts and Peyton Manning spending close to ten years with Indianapolis. The Colts never gave up a sack, due to Mudd’s OLine and Peytons quick release, but they couldn’t run the ball against good teams.
Austin Howard may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mudds system requires smaller quicker lineman. AH being from a small school , Northern Iowa, needs work on technique but he has that great size. So the Eagles cut the guy, because he did not fit the system and he may be strictly a RT. The Ravens pick him up and stash him on their PS squad. Callahan has three weeks with this guy to see if he has a future with the Jets. I love raiding Practice Squads looking for players
Built like a mauler.
Let’s see if he can maul.

better pick up than Shawn Nelson
Glad there’s a real RT to play RT. Not a journeyman, or a backup who was elevated, or a 2nd round project guy. I bet he’s getting more playing time than Ducasse in 3 weeks time. Hope he works out like Brandon Moore did.
Nelson could have been a steal if he was healthy.

Maybe. I don't know Shawn Nelson well enough to say
What I do know is who needs a 4th tight end, when your 1st right tackle isn’t playing too well? It’s too late when the season is already going to get a new starter at any position, but you can get a good player to push the starter.
Whatever...
Better than that POS Ducasse, realease his ass this off season don’t let him hang around like Gholston.
