There's a general mixed feeling about whats wrong with the Jets. There are 2 trains of thought. One is that the Jets do this every year, and they will pick up steam come playoff time, since they did it the past two years. The other is that players or coaches (Schottenheimer) need to go in order for the team to be successful. I think its a little of both, but either way, I think there's one thing that can't be ignored. What to do with Plaxico Burress.
Plexico will probably finish the season with the most yardage and touchdowns. But I still don't feel like he's the guy that is needed by this team. The Jets definately need a tall, red zone target, but he is not it. This ailing back, give up on plays, practice every other day, on the down side of his career receiver is not the answer. The trio of Holmes, Keller, and Kerley seems to be pretty good to me. I think next season he should be let go, regardless of what he finishes this year with statistics-wise. A tall younger WR can probably be traded for or drafted. I personally like the idea of Al Toon's son Nick Toon being drafted, or Rutgers native Mohamed Sanu to be groomed for the #2 WR role. They are both big (6'2), and are both aggressive, and I have watched multiple plays of them going over the middle and giving up their body to catch a pass. They also high point the ball, and don't wait for the catch to come to them. Those are just ideas, or maybe they can pry loose an Brandon Marshal if the Dolphins tire of him, or a Vincent Jackson who is on what seems like his 4th franchise tender.
Point is, there are multiple options for a #2 WR, and none of them are named Burress. Giving a multiyear contract to a 35 year old part time WR would be irresponsible, and I know Tannenbaum is already working on correcting that potential problem.
