New York Jets Preparing for No Mike Devito?
Manish Mehta says the Jets are bracing for life without Mike Devito.
I've been told that the Jets are preparing to play without DL Mike DeVito (knee) tomorrow vs. Chargers.
The signing of Martin Tevaseu to the active roster is the writing on the wall. Why would the Jets beef up their defensive line depth by signing a guy they cut this week unless Devito was not going to go?
I really do like the depth on the defensive line for the Jets. Kenrick Ellis looked very good in his debut. Tevaseu has shown flashes of good play in his limited opportunities. The run defense is struggling, though. There are too many big runs against the unit where somebody is getting blown off the ball. Losing arguably the best run defender on the team when going up against a guy with a power/speed combo like Ryan Mathews is not sounding great.

This is the sort of team you REALLY want the Devitos and Thomas' to be healthy

I always thought Devito was going to be a stop gap player
But never the long term solution on the D Line. I guess the team thought differently. It will be nice to see some of the Line depth tested. I really want to see Ellis and Pitouti getting there hands up with Rivers side arming it.
our d-line depth is fine
we are not getting beat up the middle we are getting run on from the edges all we got to do is set the edge and we will be fine
I'm glad they IRed Payne
Now we have a D-line rotation, a solid group of ass kicking, fat mofos who can consume anyone and everyone that charges forward. I wanna Ellis sit on Matthews and Wilkerson to grab Tolbert the second he tries to cross the line.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

Agreed
I took it that Payne was kept around for special teams, and our special teams is top notch anyway. The run D has been the weak link, so shoring up the Dline is a positive.

I actually see this as an opportunity
I know it will hurt to lose on of our best run stoppers, but it’s not like DeVito made enough of an impact to drastically improve a 26th ranked run defense. I think at this point, the more playing time Kenrick Ellis gets, the better. Sione Pouha is a free agent after this season and it would be great to know by mid-season if we will resign him, or if Kenrick Ellis is ready to step up as the starter. I also think, however, that we will see a large rotation between Ropati, Kenrick, and Dixon at DT on Sunday, so we may not get to see as much of Kenrick as we’d like anyways.

Devito is good, but he's obviously replacable.
I like tevaseau, dixon, ropati, wilkerson, ellis and pouha as our guys for sunday. The linebackers need to set the edge and stuff the gaps vs their dangerous RBs.

Good looking Future for DL
NT / DT is one of the hardest positions to transition to from College FB. Additionally, there were no OTA’s or off season. SO these rooks are behind. In fact, they might not be up to speed until week 9 or 10. So Ellis is coming along slowly, but if things workout we will have a dominant DL for the next 5 years. We need a LB that can cover TE’s and RB’s while also providing a pass rush— this is a very tall order.
Devito works hard!
This is a tough loss. Devito plays all out. But we do have depth on DL. Go Jets!
We need to gt younger.
We are solid at line, we need to get younger at linebacker.
Jersey is about to pop...
