Mike Devito Injures Knee in Practice; Will Be a Game Time Decision

Stay connected for news and updates

Jets defensive lineman Mike Devito injured a knee in practice yesterday, leaving his status for Sunday up in the air.

Ryan said DeVito is "awful sore right now."

An MRI revealed that there was no structural damage and DeVito will not need surgery, Ryan said.

"He kind of got caught up in a pile," Ryan said. "He came back out to practice yesterday, but today he was sore. That’s why he never practiced. We'll see how that goes, but I'm thinking that could be a game-time decision."

If Devito cannot go, it probably means more time for Kenrick Ellis and Ropati Pitoitua. Ellis in particular figures to see more reps. Devito actually served as backup nose tackle for Sione Pouha when Ellis subbed in. The rookie from Hampton was at defensive end in three man alignments. Kenrick will probably get snaps on the nose this week when Pouha needs a rest.

This injury is not coming at a good time for a struggling defensive front against the run.
