Revis Is Amazing And The Dolphins Are Terrible: Observations From The Jets Win
Back from another successful night at the Meadowlands, where the Jets finally put together 30 minutes of all around great football, in crushing the hapless Dolphins. Although this was definitely a game the Jets should have won, and doesn’t prove that any of the woes on offense are fixed, it is definitely a confidence booster going into a huge game next week. The Dolphins were exactly what the Jets needed, and the Jets ran away with it in the second half.
I was struck by many things in watching this game but most notably by just how bad the Dolphins are. I know they stuck around and had a lot of chances in the first half, but this is a team with as little talent as any I’ve seen in a long time. Everything offensively except for the line was downright terrible. Matt Moore was atrocious; the Revis pick 6 a terrible play at a terrible time. Their running backs were mediocre, benefiting from a good o line, but very unimpressive, to say nothing of the wide receivers, and non-existent play from their tight ends. The Jets shut up Brandon Marshall, who had a couple of catches, but overall spent most of the game on Revis Island. As someone who has never really paid attention to Marshall I was obviously struck by the unbelievable stupidity of his comments this week, and enjoyed as Revis shut him down.
It blows my mind that teams still try and do this. We saw it week 1 where the Cowboys targeted Revis with Dez Bryant, and then today where Revis had two picks, and was thrown at by Matt Moore. Either these guys are just ignorant to the stupendous talent that Revis is, or they are just trying to execute a game plan doomed to failure. Every time an opposing team has targeted Revis, be it with an unknown scrub on the Jaguars, or Marshall, he responds. It is mind-blowing to me that some teams still throw in his direction; he is just that good, and Brandon Marshall certainly is not even close to the level Revis is on every single game.
So the Jets are 3-3, and Miami is a major player in the suck for Luck sweepstakes. They really are just a terrible team, and I find it hard to see how they win a game, other then the type of win they got last year over the Jets in the Meadowlands, where the punter is the MVP. The fish are on their way down, the Jets back on their way up, and it's finally a good week to be a Jets fan.

I think Marshall did better than any receiver has against Revis
I still think Revis won the matchup, but Marshall definitely came to play.
Agreed, but I think there was something different in his playing.
I mean he said he wanted to work on off coverage after his beasting Cowboys INT, could it be that the reason more recs were on him were because he is working on that? If so that would account for the two INTs in the game of that was a factor.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

Marshall only seemed like he did better than any other WR because he was targeted more
QBs throwing against Revis in Weeks 1-5: 5/15, 114 yds, 1 int
Matt Moore against Revis in Week 6: 5/15, 62 yds, 2 int
Revis was his usual self Monday Night

Where did you get those stats?
Just curious if there is a good site.

There was a thread on footballsfuture.com, but it got locked last week
I’ve also been keeping track myself. I’m still not entirely sure whether to pin Welker’s long reception last week on him but he said it was his fault in the postgame so I’ve included it in the stats.

he gave that play to Smith to cover. So I think it counts towards him

Its debateable, but someone should have covered him and no one did so...
I think its somewhat convenient of everyone to blame Smith

He clearly released to Smith who bit on the run even though it had been stated that our safeties were tolld to stay extra deep to prevent just that

Revis made the tackle.
I think thats a sign that he wasn’t sure he should have made the hand off. Revis let him go then followed. I dunno. We’ll never know what exactly the assignment was unless they tell us.

Revis is also significantly faster than Smith. It looked to me like he realized Smith had bought the fake and couldn’t catch himself, so he just took off.

But you cant diagnose it without their imput. Thats my point.

I think you kind of have to because Revis isn't the kind of guy who's going to blame his teammates even if it is their faults..
Just the way he is, hes not going to point fingers at people and blame them. He’s going to take it on himself and say he has to play better.

Marshall actually had a lot of effort, which surprised me.
He played pretty well in such a situation.
I wouldn't say that Marshall was shut down
He had over 100 yards last night.

48 came on Cro...
and I dont care how you slice, it when the Db has more TDs and Yards head 2 head thats ugly. I give BMarshall credit for breaking up that other Revis Int. Revis could very well had 3 picks

That's not true
But not entirely false. Concerning game, but a lot of things looked improved, even if it was slightly.

There's plenty to feel good about.
Revis, Cromartie, Smith being better than Pool, Kerley, Mcknight, a consistently great defense, Conley getting much better…ect.
Abberations.
The team we beat was 0-5 and not a close 0-5, a terrible, terrible 0-5. We didn’t have a dominant offensive showing which was needed to give fans some kind of hope that this unit will improve enough to be even mediocre. The Holmes TD was a great individual effort by Sanchez extending the play and even more by Holmes elluding various tacklers. The Revis TD was again an individual performance.
30 other teams playing us would have made this a game because they have WRs that could at least catch a beach ball if it hit them in the hands which Miami’s couldn’t. They must be taking tips from their DBs who also have Grade 5 Stonehands. Our defense looked good because their offense is that bad, especially their easy disolve toilet paper offensive line.
Sanchez is starting to worry me a little as a pocket QB. His inaccuracy shouldn’t be this apparent 5 games into his 3rd season. Alot of that is Shotty’s fault but when he’s not pressured with talented receivers he’s still missing open receivers, reads, and looks nervous when he drops straight back. Also the prospect of our only QB diving headfirst into the endzone from 3 yards out is a little bit disconcerning.
Interesting point
Maybe after getting lit up for three weeks, he’s not fully trusting the line. Someone else brought it up in another topic, i don’t know what to think of this, just a thought though.
I mean it makes sense that it could be the case,
but even good QBs have pocket presence enough to know how there line is playing throught the game. I’m not saying he’s hopeless, but I’m just not seeing improvement even when factoring in our teams’ circumstances.
Oh and he was 5 yards out, btw:)
Honestly, I liked the QB sneak. Not something you want to see all the time, but at the moment he saw something he liked, called the audible and went for it. No guts no glory, right? It’s a good thing he’ll do what it takes to make a play and we really needed that TD at the moment. I can imagine what greatness Schotty had dialed up.
"No guts no glory," Also, no backup QB.
He’s one hit away from our season ending. It’s the least depth of any position on any team. Teams have more Kicker/Punter depth then we have QB depth.
I think the Eagles could use him more than we could
Seems like Vick gets injured or misses a series every game.
HaHa
Great line about punter depth although it makes me feel a little sick.

His completion percentage too a huge hit week 4.
He looked good yesterday, but had a few dropped passes and overthrows

Smith dropped the easiest pass to intercept.
Davis and smith are bums. Kyle wilson would be their best corner if he was a dolphin. Anyways, great win, the team can breathe better now and get ready for San Diego. I think we can take it to them.

Lets Hope
Lets just hope that this ugly win spurs our offence. Its hard to believe that we can take out SD next week but if the offence shows up we have a chance. I still believe that this team if it gets lucky and makes the playoffs won’t get very far. The playcalling is just horrible its very predictable and with the way the players are having trouble it doesn’t look optomistic.
Sanchez misses more often then he should his accuracy is off more than on. He also misses open recievers and dumps it off more often then he should. It was not his fault in a couple of the games when he had no time for anything.
When you look back at the Balt game the first play Reed had his number. It was obvious that they knew he would be locked to throw and take a long time and they took advantage of it. With the other fumble same thing Sanchez has that long stride and wind up takes along time to get rid of the ball. When you don’t have time in the pocket you cant afford that.
