Rex Ryan is our man no matter what.
During the season I felt that there where lots of disappointment with Rex Ryan, some ludicrous posters even calling for Ryan to lose his job as head Coach. Ryan is our head coach and a damn good one. Aside from the fact that Ryan is only in his second year, and is only 3 wins away from matching Eric Mangini's total wins as the Jets coach, Rex Ryan has led the team to the post season in his first 2 years, something that hasn't happened since 2001-2002. Ryan has been the needed fresh air in the New York Jets organization has needed. Sure the trash talk happens too often, and yes some games the game-plan looks awful, and some games are torture, and the New England game was a disaster, but that certainly isn't enough for a team that has been 4 games over .500, made the playoffs for consecutive years, and has come within 30 minutes of the Super Bowl to can the guy. This is just a reminder that Rex Ryan is our guy. He is the guy we've needed and lacked as a coach since Parcells. And the coolest thing about Rex Ryan is how it seems like he can identify so much with us as fans.
No matter if we lose 59-3 this Saturday I will support Rex Ryan no matter what
I hope you do the same

Nice post
I agree. I don’t have any problem with setting the team’s sights on the ultimate prize or being vocally confident. The team should feel that way.

I like Rex Ryan but I'll admit I was one of the people who thought he should be fired..
…if the Jets missed the playoffs. You cant tell me that if the Jets collapsed after starting 9-2, he would deserve to stay. As far as the shots at Mangini, lets not forget that he had a hand in most of the good players that we have. He inherited a far worse team than Rex did.
People think Rex has turned this team around but lets not forget that the only reason Mangini was canned was because he had an 8-3 team collapse. Lets not pretend Rex took over a team like Raheem Morris did. Now lets see Saturday if our coach has learned anything from the first 100 times Manning has beaten him. I hope he has, otherwise maybe we can just fire his ego.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Look past the records, and think about this team WITHOUT Rex. The defense is average at best, and we win 5 or 6 games last year, and probably the same this year. Rex’s job was never in jepordy at 9 wins.
If you haven’t noticed, his “ego” and confidence is a weapon; he uses it to get his players focused; it gives the team an identity other teams envy. Take away Rex’s personality, and players will see right through a fake coach. You want Rex’s defensive genius? You gotta take the whole package. Otherwise, settle for mediocrity and humbleness.

His ego is what gets him in trouble
Last years team underachieved to the same exact record it had the year before with Mangini. Other teams envy having a bulls-eye on its back? Sure if they can back it up with something. Rex’s job was never in jeopardy with 9 wins, even if they finished up at 9-7, while Mangini was canned after going 9-7 with less talent the year before. That makes sense.
I like Rex but he is simply a defensive coordinator masquerading as a HC thus far. He stinks with clock management, he is terrible after having too much time to game plan(bye weeks, layoffs longer than Sun to Sun) and his in game adjustments are terrible. As far as being a defensive genius, who has he beat when it matters? The word genius gets thrown around far too often.
His ego was great when he first came in because we were used to Mangini’s awful pressers but it gets old pretty quick. I like swagger but there comes a time when you have to shut up and go out and get it done. When has this stuff ever worked in the past in any sport?
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Mangini had also been here for several years. Rex accomplished the same in the regular season in one year what Mangini couldn’t break in his entire tenure. Then, to top it off, he got the Jets to the AFCC. The Favre fiasco didn’t help Mangini either.

I never said Mangini was anything great either
But lets not act like Rex inherited the Lions here, the pieces were in place pretty much. Trust me there is no one rooting for Rex more than me, I just hope he grows as a HC.

Rex inherited a QB competition of Brett Raliff and Kellen Clemens. He inherited a pass defense ranked 31st and turned them into number 1.

Um, he was prepared to go with a rookie
He never even tried to get Favre back, who incidently went on to argubly the best season of his career. So the only reason there was even a chance that Ratliff vs Clemens was going to take place was due to Rex.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Yeah, he said that, but theres a reason he and Tanny went after Sanchez. He even later admitted there would have been “major recruiting done” had the Jets not been able to get Sanchez.

So that pretty much ruled out the Ratliff/Clemens battle from day 1

Point is, he was given an Arizona Cardinal-like QB situation and solidified the spot.

I was just using Favre as an example but
while I know Brett isnt the most beloved guy in football, this year was far from just his fault. The team quit on Chilly, he had no healthy WRs that were worth a damn and the line got him killed out there.
As far as getting a Cards like situation, I disagree. The Jets choose not to grab a vet knowing they were going to draft QB. At worst he was going to wind up with Josh Freeman, who seems to be a better qb in my eyes than Sanchez anyway.

I’m not really sure Rex and Mangini are comparable. Rex is a much better coach. He got way more out of the defense with most of the same pieces last year.
I’ll give another example. When Schotty was making things too complicated and not utilizing personnel in 2008, Mangini did nothing. Rex has stepped in and ordered him to simplify things two straight years.
It wasn’t so much the 2008 collapse for me. It was all of the things it exposed about Mangini. Favre fading didn’t help, but I saw enough to know Mangini wasn’t the right guy for the job. Even had this team collapsed, Rex has shown he’s a really good coach with a bright future.

You really think Rex is a good HC?
Do I really need to rehash why he is not? Can he grow as a HC? Sure, but from I what I have seen so far, no way. Mangini wasnt a great coach either but he showed me something as far as growing with the job he did in Cleveland,

just wait till we win a superbowl, to me he s like howard stern, you cant wait to hear what hes gonna say next…… rex keep on talking , your the heart of this team, can you imagine how many free agents are gonna wanna sign with us just to play for rex
The league has adjusted to his defensive schemes
Rex has stayed in the same defense mostly all year. He did play more zone and coverage in the Green Bay game; but for the most part, Rex has not adjusted to the league. Every team in the league has a weakness, however, Rex don’t game plan to exploit weaknesses or to minimize strengths with his defense. He feels his defense will stop the league if his players play it right. Also his challenges and in-game management sucks. My point? He does not have the players to play the defense he wants to play, yet he still plays it. I’m on the fence with him, however, if the Jets don’t make a run for the Super Bowl, all the we are gonna win the Super Bowl talk is going to get real tired hearing.
We're still a top 5 defence

No he is very stupid..
The guy simply hates the Jets, the organization and Rex. He gave the NYG a total pass on that 4th quarter collapse against the Eagles. Didn’t bash them hard at all for the no show against GB. He is a Giants nuthugger and they can do no wrong. It’s no different the way he is with the Yankees and then how he treats Mets fans. He didn’t say the Giants are in a meltdown, in total collapse….but he COULDN’T WAIT to say that when the Jets lost to the Pats, then the Dolphins game. I also think it has to do with the way the Jets have banned any player or member of the organization from appearing on his show and he has NYGs on all of the time. He even gave the Colts a pass this weekend saying they can just play loose because no on expects anything from them even though the Colts are the pick to win by the so called “experts” lol. He wants nothing more than for the Jets to lose and then he can have his Giants callers call in to bash the Jets and then he can bash the fans himself. That’s what he always does.
nope..
Not a fan of the fat man myself . i can tell you he is far from a Giant fan. Dont even think he likes “a” team . he was a big time Dallas fan back when Tuna was there.
He hates Strahan ,Shockey, Osi , Antoio Peirce and Tiki just off the top of my head.
(Basically he hates brashness and showboating ie Holmes and Rex.) Its radio fodder, it gets a rise out of Jet fans just like he would do to Giant fans in the early to mid 2000s..
I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.

Pretty good explanation of the fat man
People forget he is in the business of radio and sparking interest is what keeps his show going. I do not think he hates the Jets, I also remember him saying he had a falling out with the Tuna some time back. The showboating does kind of get old too.

I’m just gonna be the guy to go out on the limb here and say that I really believe that Rex is the best thing to happen to the Jets since I can remember. He brought life and focus to a team that everyone overlooked and just forgets about and writes off the roster. Being a Jets fan for so long we’re typically just road bumps on other teams schedules to the playoffs. I mean we talk about glory days and we’re talking about days LONG gone with players who are sports analysts, vegetables, or Bill Parcells.
I said it during the offseason and i’ll say it again now… Whether we go all the way or get stopped on Sunday… it was a great (sometimes heart attack causing) season that was fun, action packed (and very sad poor jimmy!) but I have NEVER had this much excitement at being a Jet fan. Way more so than even last year.
I sure woulda liked to be in the news more for good things and not DWIs and Foot Fetishes, and Jenny Sterger… (mmm) but 11-5? I’ll take it! A rematch against the Colts in the first round… I’ll take it! A possible chance of playing the Pats again.. in Foxborough on the “Green Mile” to the Superbowl… I’ll take it.
And I believe the excitement all starts with Rex. The players buy into him. The media buys into him. He makes the team believe they can win. That’s what a coach is suposed to do. And if the team believes they can win…they can. And if they can… i believe they can. And with that… In Rex we trust and anyone who says he should be fired… go root for the Browns.
I think Jim Leonhard should be in the next Nike "Boom" Commercial or at least the next time he makes one of those tackles he needs to jump up with a can of Kool-Aid and shout "Oh yeah".

Who is saying he should be fired?
And this talk of Rex taking us out of the dark ages is so funny. The Jets made the playoffs in 01, 02, 04, and 06 and shouldve went in 08 after starting out 8-3 and many predicting Super Bowl. People are acting like Ryan is coming in after the Kotite years. Has he beeen a breath of fresh air? Sure. Did he inherit a team that was playoff ready? Most definatley.

look it is one thing to have talented team it is another thing to develop that talent and that what rex did he made that defense from mediocre to one of the top 5 in the league sure he had does guys but those guys put way more effort for rex ryan then they did for eric mangini and if u deny that then go be a giants fan and watch us in the playoffs

Oh I see, if I dont think of Rex as a savior, Im not a good Jets fan
Dont tell me who to be a fan of, I have a right to an opinion. Developed what talent? Revis was already on his way before Rex came, so was Harris. If anything I believe his schemes worked last year because they were something different for the Jets. But its funny that the defense seemed to regress this year even though most of the key components had a full year in Rex’s system. I’m not saying the defense isn’t better under Rex, because it is but he had plenty to work with.

The level QB we faced this year is significantly higher than those we faced last year.
Brady twice
Flacco
Big Ben
Favre
Rogers
Cutler
Schaub
We had to face a top flight QB almost every week this year. That just wasn’t the case last year.
by Crackback on Jan 6, 2011 12:11 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
i wouldnt call Farve "top flight"
that takes it down to 7 top QBs in a 16 games season . less then 50% of the time the jets had a challenge at the QB position..
I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.
HIRE Josh McDaniels !!!!
I have to agree with Crack though here… call Farve and Flacco what you will bu they are still good QBs and whether they had a good game or not just the mentality that they are good QBs puts a whole new level of pressure on a game and remember Farve started to light us up in the 4th.
I’d even go as far as to put Orton on there… maybe not against us but the man had a pretty damn good season considering.
I think Jim Leonhard should be in the next Nike "Boom" Commercial or at least the next time he makes one of those tackles he needs to jump up with a can of Kool-Aid and shout "Oh yeah".
Brett Favre
60%.11 TD’s 19 Ints
Orton lost his job to Timmay!!. and even he had good #s in Josh McDaniels O.
Flacco on the other hand is legit. 63% 25 TDs 10 Ints

HIRE Josh McDaniels !!!!
I said take Flacco off because he sucks in big games. He has three playoff wins but look at his numbers in those game
Especially in their win in NE. He completed like five passes in that game. He is a good QB, but he has not shown he can show up for big games.
We faced some decent QBs last year too
Brady(twice)
Brees
Ryan
Schaub
Palmer(he was decent last year)
Garrard(laugh but I would take him over Flacco or 2010 Favre)
a half of Manning,lol.
They did face better QBs in 2010 but not a ton more maybe 2 or 3.

Look i’m not bashing you here. You have a right to like or dislike who you want and that’s 100% your call. What creases me is all the Rex bashing that i read on sports pages and boards about Rex being fat and he needs to shut up and he talks to much and he’s a pompous jerk and all that stuff… why? because he really believes his team can win the Superbowl? If you’re a coach and doesn’t believe that.. you’re not doing your job. And if you can’t get your team to buy into it… you’re really bad at your job. Rex does an awesome job at this and the players idolize him. They WANT to play for him. I mean these guys play for 1.) Money (usually) 2.) Rings (usually) 3.) Love of the game (usually) 4.) inspiration (what?) that’s heart man. Rex inflates that within these guys. Win or lose these guys go home feeling like winners and with an 11-5 record… regardless of how we won them.. i feel just like Rex does… A (W) is a (W) and i’ll take it… and yeah buddy we did give NE one of those losses this year. That’s a good season!
And sure we made the playoffs in 01, 02, 04, and 06… we even did it in 09! But no one took us seriously… they don’t even now. But instead of going into the playoffs (as a fan) thinking… let’s see how far we can go.. i’m actually excited to say.. we really really might have a chance. The road looks scary as crap imho but as Brad Smith said… you go into the playoffs you don’t expect teams to just rollover you expect to play like David and Goliath…. and right now… we may be David but we’re gonna play like Goliath.
P.S. my argument wasn’t directed at you YJ it was more directed to the peeps that just simply bash Rex because he’s vocal and entheusiastic, and open, and call him egotistical and “high horse” type stuff. He’s a believer and I respect that and have NEVER felt this much excitement for this team.
I think Jim Leonhard should be in the next Nike "Boom" Commercial or at least the next time he makes one of those tackles he needs to jump up with a can of Kool-Aid and shout "Oh yeah".
I get where your coming from
I dont mind Rex being confidant, I actually am very much in approval of it. I also dont see what him being fat has to do with anything, I wouldnt care if he looked like Rocky Dennis. The only thing getting old is the bulletin board material, he has to tone it down a bit. As far as being taken serious, that wont happen until we win something. We havent even won a division title since I think 2002, and we lucked into that one due to Dave Wanstedt. Id rather be the underdog anyway.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Yes I agree.. win me the division and i’ll treat the season like we won a super bowl. Then again.. sweep the Pats and i’ll feel the same way. We are in an extremely tough division. Namely because of the Pats. One may look at the Bills and Miami as not “tough” but for some reason when it’s divisional games they play their freaking hearts out. Unlike other divisional games. I was just reading an article about how teams like Houston and Jax just accept losing in their division to the Colts nowadays. Teams in our division expect to win… even Buffalo. Everyone in our division has a chance to split. It’s pretty tough. the one thing that does bother me about Rex is that the whole team “loves” and respects him so much it kills me that they got into SO much visible trouble this year. To me… that’s nothing but disrespect… then again.. how much of it was total media overhype. Pretty typical.
I think Jim Leonhard should be in the next Nike "Boom" Commercial or at least the next time he makes one of those tackles he needs to jump up with a can of Kool-Aid and shout "Oh yeah".
