Just as I promised
A little background story:
Last off season when the Arizona Cardinals acquired Kerry Rhodes from your New York Jets I came to this blog to find out some information. I found the blog to be divided. A lot of the members couldn't wait for the door to hit him in the a**. Some were disappointed to see him go because of the unproven depth he left behind. The biggest knocks against him was that he was more preoccupied with being a movie star then a star football player. He lacked the explosive play and that Jay Feely could hit harder then he could. So this is why I'm here. At the end of all the debate I was asked to come back after the season and talk about the marriage between him and the Cards. So here's the stats

Those are the facts now here is my opinion
Kerry did an outstanding job for a very poor Arizona team. He came in with great leadership and drive. He played better then the player he replaced. He should have gone to the pro bowl this year. I look forward to having him on my team for many years to come.

i agree
for the most part.
run support Rolle
Pass D. Kerry
Still would have gave the nod to Kerry for the Pro Bowl, he did more with a lot less.
I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.
HIRE Josh McDaniels !!!!
Sorry thought u meant Kerri, Rolle

As for the Jets
I don’t no how you guys feel about him but from everything I’ve seen their wasn’t much of a drop off so this may be one of those rare cases were everyone ends up happy. Were you guys able to pick up a contributor with the pick we gave up for him?
Remember know matter where you go in life...There you are.
I think it was more locker room stuff. Distractions its hard to say where the line is better for the team between a lesser player on the field a good locker room guy/ team mate or a better player and a diva/locker room problem. But the stats speak for themself the saftey play is worse this year without a doubt.
In an Ideal world I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
I think that Kerry was and is worth way more then a fourth round pick. From that stand point I think you got a good deal on him. He is a much better coverage safety then what we currently have on the field now, the knock on him was always that he was a poor tackler but I would much rather the jets teach someone how to tackle then to cover(watch anyone on the team try to hold decent coverage, besides Revis…and sometimes Cro is if he is on his game). However apparently he and Rex didn’t see eye to eye on things and the way the Jets work these days is Rex only wants you on the team if your willing to run through a brick wall for him. Kerry wasn’t willing to do that so he had to go somewhere, because of that you guys lucked out and picked him up cheap.
Rex's ego cost us with Rhodes
The Jets defense took a hit without Rhodes. While he wasnt a tackling machine he made up foe it in other places. I think Poole has been meh and McKnight, who I believe they got with the pick, hasnt done much. I dont want to here about his game against the Bills, Jim Brown could run on that run defense. Yes the 2011 version of Jim Brown.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Mmhmm
I completely agree with you…I think the jets would be a stronger defense with Rhodes in the secondary. Its a shame they couldn’t work things out…..
I also agree with this
Rex decided he didn’t want Rhodes on his roster long before that season ended and wouldn’t have it any other way, even if it meant a downgrade like Pool.

I don't know about that
Last season was a season when teams redefined how much players are worth, Brandon Marshall for 2 second rounders, Donovan McNabb, Santonio Holmes, Antonio Cromartie, and more for lower choices
From his performance last season he wasn’t good enough for more than a Forth
Didn’t he score a couple of TDs this season as well?
by JetsFanMurphy on Jan 3, 2011 8:39 AM EST up reply actions
He didn't get any TD's
But he was a big play maker for sure. He was solid in coverage and made tackles when they came his way. Picking up him and Feely were 2 of the best pick ups we had last year.

HE DID
Just checked NFL.com two fumbles returned for TDS

I thought the same thing
I couldve sworn he scored a couple TDs

Ah okay
But he really didn’t do ANYTHING like that, whether be by fumble or picks or tackles until like 3 weeks into the season…except for TE coverage, he locked down them all -Clark and Gonzales

Rhodes has a lot of ability
He had an average 2008 and a problematic 2009 but I was sad to see him go. Obviously we could use him now, but that is water under the bridge. Pool has played really well the last 4 games after a below average first 11 (he missed the first game I believe) but Rhodes is better, and we have been picked on by every tight end in the league.

not for long
if youve noticed pool has picked up the system , as for early in the season he was still learning it…….. as for kerry its all about me rhodes, im glad he is gone and how many of those stops that pool made that would have broke for td would kr have made nooooooooone…………….
you can keep that crybaby. i don't miss him at all.
Pool has blossomed at SS and is a significant upgrade. And I’m really digging Lowery at FS, I just wish we made this switch earlier in the season bc he needs the reps. Lowery can cover and he’s pretty rangey and seems to be a ball hawk.

Signficant upgrade?

Its obvious to me with the eye, but JB posted the numbers the other day. Something like leonard allowed 67% completion rate to pool’s 37%.
Pool is much better in coverage and is just as good against the run; and he’s playing faster every week. Its not even an argument any more.

I didn't realize we were comparing him to Leonhard

agreed with Crack
although Pool has progressed seemingly since Jimmy Leonhard went down—I dont know how big of an upgrade he is—Lowery seems to be nice fit back there…he can hit too…
Anyone who can objectively watch game film would call him a downgrade.

How can u possibly say that? Even when pool was misplaced at FS, with limited snaps, he was making more impact plays than leonard (game saving tackle and pass breakup in miami 1; interception in pats 1). What plays has leonard made this season? And for a guy who’s specialty is “intelligence and being in the right place at the right time” he sure was out of place and exploited in coverage a bunch this year.
Leonard can’t cover and his range is very limited. Basically he’s a good tackler when people happen to run into him. Comparing him to Pool, whose all over the field and always around the ball, is ridiculous.

Although I was thinking Rhodes
being that’s who the OP was about, you have a point.
I guess we’ll just ignore how deeply and obviously the defense suffered for weeks without Leonhard. Or the countless tackles Pool has blown all year long.

Im not a big fan of Pool either
Rhodes probably shouldve made the pro bowl this year, he seems to more of a playmaker in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong
he’s taken care of business the last few games and if he can play to that level through the playoffs there’s an argument for retaining him.

He has picked it up a bit, hope he keeps it up

Sorry… no bashing of Leonhard here! I won’t tolerate it… but I have to agree… I think Pool is an upgrade from Rhodes I just don’t think he’s really gelled in the system yet. Next year will be a real tell for Pool. I was really excited when we signed Pool because he’s such a hard hitter which was something Rhodes seemed to refuse to do.
Leonhard may not be the best safety out there but everyone saw that he was the chalkboard out there. Without him calling the shots it was complete disarray. He’s like the defensive quarterback and it was obvious to me that no one else was able to pick up that role…
I’m glad Rhodes had a good year in Az cuz he’s definately a good player but there’s no spotlight on Pool and i’d prefer that in the locker room while he’s breaking up plays.
I think Jim Leonhard should be in the next Nike "Boom" Commercial or at least the next time he makes one of those tackles he needs to jump up with a can of Kool-Aid and shout "Oh yeah".
Funny
because all year long Pool has had major issues making tackles. Meanwhile Rhodes is playing cleanup for his crappy unit and tackling left and right all day long.
Pool is on a one year contract, and rightfully so. IF and only if he can duplicate his extremely limited success for the team in the postseason there’s no point in even discussing retaining him.

mm good point… forgot he was signed to only 1 year… thought it was 2. Ah well.. guess he can’t have the learning curve he must need :P I still wasn’t a fan of Rhodes to be honest… Maybe a better look for this offseason then.. I dunno i’m wrong a lot… i’m still the one that things that Kyle Wilson has the skills to be a Revis Prodigy… but i live in Boise so i’m bias’d :P
