2011 East-West Shrine Game Thread
I know nobody is focused on the Draft right now, but there is a game with college all stars playing in front of scouts to try and improve their position.
The positions of need are pretty evident, pass rushers and safeties. Depending on what moves the team makes, defensive line depth might be high on the list also. Mike Tannenbaum has shown a willingness to take a player he has highly rated, though, even in positions where the Jets seems set so anything is a possibility.
Our friend Alfie of SBN's Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, was at practice this week and saw Jets scouts speaking with University of Richmond defensive back Justin Rogers. Rogers is decorated as a corner and as a kick returner (potential replacement for Brad Smith?). Keep an eye on him. Read more about him here.
Leave your thoughts on the game below.

I'd love to see us pick up an OLB and DE
in the first two draft spots, so a defensive look would be great to see from the shrine game.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!
I think he's implying in the future.
not immediately, if D-linemen we can bring in anything like Ellis in toughness we can have a guy on the line for at least 10+ years.

There seems like a decent chance Smith won’t be back, but we’ll deal with that at the appropriate time.

Some team will probably offer too much money, and as great as he is at what he does, Brad’s a spare part.

The thing is.
the only way I see him leaving the team, is if someone is going to give him a starting position at WR, or as a QB on a team. He’s not leaving the Jets to go be a special teams expert on another team, that’s like leaving one trailer park, because it smells bad for another trailer park that smells different but still just as bad.

Not if someone is willing to pay him more than the Jets will. This is his best shot at cashing in, and guys like him always tend to get some team willing to pay him too much and offer too many offensive reps.

wouldnt surprise me if cincy tries paying big dough for him
considering how he always kills them
metsjetsknicksrangers.............can it get any worse?
I’ll be watching Rahim Moore, Ryan Kerrigan, Aldon Smith, Justin Houston, Cameron Heyward, Lawrence Guy, Quinton Coples, Muhammad Wilkerson, Corey Liuget and anyone else I might have missed
Get busy winning or get busy losing.
Wilkerson is my #1 choice for our 1st round pick.

Mohammed Wilkerson looks like a likely canidate for us if Kerrigan, Watt, and Heyward are gone.
Or we could go Allen Bailey. Overall, this year’s draft is deep in the front seven, mostly the line.
I really don't like Bailey
He is so inconsistent. I don’t think Rex would go for a guy that doesn’t give it his all every play of every game.

Is the game on TV?
If so, what channel? I can’t find it.
With the exception of the top five
the draft never follows anybodies mocks or speculation anyway. And me studying college players doesn’t ultimately impact who my team chooses at all so…

It's still fun to watch players you think would work well on our team, and to maybe guess who we might pick.

I know, and you're allowed.
I’m saying we’re always way off and to me the whole deal is kind of fruitless.

not totally fruitless... I guessed we would take Kyle Wilson last year... I felt pretty special for a few hours. Then all wanted to do was watch them play

I didn’t get into it until we hit on revis and mangold and brick. After those guys became more than I could ever expect, I started to take the draft seriously. Then it looked like we hit again with greene.
Now, all I think about is how awesome we’d be with a couple more hits. So I’m basically hooked now.

Most of the top guys tend to turn this game down and go to the Senior Bowl, but there are a few highly rated guys like Marvin Austin.

Will they be allowed to blitz or play coverages in the senior bowl.
As a 3-4 team it was very hard to judge talent other than different moves to get to the QB.

No he didn't
I have seen enough of Bailey to know that he is a boom or bust type player much like a guy named Gholston. I hope Rex stays very far away from guys that don’t give their all every play, and every game at a consistent level

Only concern I have with the defensive picks...
Pats, have 2 picks above us, and they need a better D-line. So we will lose 2 of the best off the list by the time we get to the 3rd round.

Gholston was ranked as one of the best prospects in that draft
Do you think teams are worried now about getting an OLB/DE ranked lower than him? You never know how people are going to pan out. The Pats also need help on offense.
