Great News
So far from what I am seeing on television, we still dont have much of a chance.....
It started with Cowher saying the Jets havent played a defense like the Steelers. Now Im not about to say our regular season win will have anything to do with this game, but didnt they play the Steelers D in that game? Are the Steelers a different team since the Moss trade too?
Now today on Firsttake I get to see Derrick Brooks say Steelers because they have a defense the Jets have not seen. Huh? Jon Ritchie also took Steelers along with Ronde Barber too. Then I turn on ESPN later in the day to find Eric Allen and Brooks again saying the Steelers will be in the Super Bowl. Of course there is also the Heinz Field factor, they cant win there either. I am so glad the Jets continue to be the underdog. It also makes me happy to know that Bart Scott doesnt ignore these guys and uses it for fuel. How else would he know about Tom Jackson and Keyshawn?
Add Cris Collinsworth to the Steeler wagon. He picked them on Boomer and Carton this morning.
Update: Bill Cowher picked the Jets to win on Wednesday's Boomer and Carton
Warrick Dunn and Derrick Brooks also go with the Steelers(big surprise, they are Tomlin guys, way to be objective)

They did play the Steelers D
But without Polamalu, one of their best defensive players. I’m not saying that would have made a difference or will make a difference this week, just pointing it out. LET’S GO JETS!
"The message to the rest of the league is, hey, the Jets are coming, and we're going to give you everything we got. And I think that's going to be more than you can handle." -Rex Ryan
Eh he's still playing injured.
He was a non fact against the ravens.
Any advantage their D gets with Troy, our defense also gets now that the pitt O-line blew up against Baltimore.
Sorry, but this is just wrong
He did not show up in the stat sheet, sure. However, Troy makes an impact in any game he plays just because he is Troy. Any OC who is smart, knows he is on the field, and makes sure his QB is aware of Troy before he throws. Flacco getting sacked or throwing a pick, in part is a result of him trying to go away from Troy. If you watched the game, you could see that Troy never had a visible impact because the ball was never really thrown his way.
He did miss a tackle that resulted in a score, but he was trying to make up for someone else’s mistake. He came half way across the field and still almost got the stop.
by John Stephens on Jan 17, 2011 9:24 PM EST up reply actions
He missed several tackles in that game, John. And he mistimed and just plain misread a bunch of his signature over-the-line jump tackles.
[enter some witty remark here]

2 is not several. And like I said, the one he was covering for someone else and had to come all the way across the field.
He didn’t have any over the line jump tackles, let alone a bunch. You sure you watched the right game?
And you completely missed the point of my post. Troy makes an impact even still, because the QB has to know where he is at all times. It forces him to hold on to the ball that tiny fraction of a second longer, which gives the pass rush more time to get to the QB. That is a big reason why we sacked Flacco so many times, because of Troy.

THEIR DEFENSE CANT STOP A NOSE BLEED
Follow me on Twitter
"All we hear is about their defense, they can't stop a nose bleed." - Bart Scott on the Patriots Defense
I know you are quoting Bart but the Steelers D unlike the Pats, is the real deal
This next game will not be easy at all.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
I know this.
Nothing a few Sanchez boot legs can’t do though.

I’ll be surprised if Harrison gets fooled that bad again on a bootleg. A very well designed play the first time, but I imagine he will be more aware of the potential now.

the only reason
pitts had 17 was so many missed sacks on 3rd down ….. we handle buisness this time and make sure we get him down they lose in a blowout…… and as for defenses the steelers havent seen a defense like ours because unlike them we actually have a whole different scheme….. unlike the one where we sent 6 plus people at ben until the end of the game
I love us in this game.
Mendenhall won’t run like he did last time; and our corners will lock down their wide-outs (don’t forget that Revis tweeked a hammy that week and wasnt 100%); and we’ll bracket Miller with our safeties. I wouldnt be suprised at all if we locked them up.
Yeah they didn’t have Troy last time but Harrison and Woodley didnt forget how to pass rush did they? And they didnt do much. We ran the ball good last time so im assuming we’ll be able to do more of the same. We also should be able to dismantle their corners. Let Troy run around and act stupid. Keller will gash them all day, just like Heap did to them a week ago.
The pundits just hate the Jets. Let the haters hate. I love it.
Let Troy run around and act stupid.
Is that what you call being one of the two best safeties and top defenders in the league?
by John Stephens on Jan 17, 2011 9:27 PM EST up reply actions
There is no doubting he is probably the best safety in football
But he can get beat and he is also not 100%. If anybody knows how dangerous this guy is, its Sanchez.. He is a fellow USC alum, that Sanchez knows plenty about. I dont think he runs around and acts stupid but you can bait him if it is done right.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
I didn't say he was infallible
Just that he doesn’t run around and act stupid. He runs around and creates havoc, and more often than not he wins the battle vs. the QB.
by John Stephens on Jan 17, 2011 10:04 PM EST up reply actions
How’s this? First read keller, if troy is on him then pick on a corner, if he isn’t then throw it to keller. Seems pretty simple. Troy won’t be a factor against us. We’re too dynamic at TE and out wide.

If it is so simple to do
How come no team, outside of the Patriots, has made easy work of this defense?
This secondary is a lot better than you are giving it credit for.
by John Stephens on Jan 17, 2011 11:10 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe I’m not. But then again, it hasn’t proved its good enough to beat us.
by Crackback on Jan 18, 2011 12:12 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
I would say giving up only 15 points is more than enough from a defense. Also, only 170 yards and 5.6 y/a is above average for a pass defense. It was the offense and special teams that wasn’t good enough that day.
by John Stephens on Jan 18, 2011 8:04 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah, I'm sure it seems pretty simple.
Factor in Sanchez getting thrown around by our awesome D, Troy patrolling the field, the crowd noise, and the other numerous factors and you have yourself a messy situation. But, keep telling yourself that your decent offense is better than our defense if it helps you sleep at night.
Haters gon' hate.
Somehow I’m not worried about it. Your place and your team didn’t scare anybody last time when we came in there and kicked ur ass. Don’t think u will this time either.
Diana Ross damn sure aint scaring anybody. We’ll see what happens.
by Crackback on Jan 18, 2011 12:08 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Five points is kicking someone's ass?
Hell, the only way the Jets will win is if the refs let Cromartie and Revis hold and interfere all game…. again.
24-10 Steelers.
Haters gon' hate.
Also factor in
The Jets Offensive line, one of if not the best in the NFL. More then capable of handling Pit’s highly ranked defense.
Jets have been romping around on the road and winning especially in the play offs, so noise and nonsense should not be a factor especially when they just emerged victorious out of the lions den in NE.
Rex is VERY familiar with the Steelers, coming from the Ravens, and has already left his mark =)
Pit didn’t look very good last week against Balt. despite the win. Jets on the other hand looked down right scary against the pats. Steelers will have to play better then they did to beat the Jets.
Special Teams, Even without Smith the jets have been outstanding, getting great field position on almost every return and giving up almost nothing past the 20 yard line on every punt.
Not to say that this is a for gone conclusion , i expect a great game from both sides, but this is a good situation for the Jets to come out on top.
Pit didn’t look very good last week against Balt. despite the win.
That’s wrong. The defense gave up 126 yards. Let me repeat that. The defense gave up only 126 yards in a playoff game. Since the merger, that has only happened 7 other times. That effort including 3 forced turnovers, 5 sacks, a 61.1 QB rating for Flacco, and a 2.7 yards per rush attempt for Ray Rice. That’s not just “very good”, it is great.
The offense may have started off slow in the 1st half, but it was on fire in the second as Ben finished with a QB rating of 101.8 against a very good defense. And we finished with a 50% conversion rate on 3rd down. If the Steelers had protected the ball better, that game would have been a blow out. Yeah, the offensive line is bad, but we just won a SB with an even worse line.

Anyone would be nervous being down 14 points. However, when you see how lights out the defense was playing, it wasn’t that bad.
by John Stephens on Jan 18, 2011 11:33 AM EST up reply actions
You’re kidding right? The ravens didn’t put up yards bc they never had far to go to punch it through. Then flacid flacco shriveled up like he was in a cold pool.
The ravens lost that game bc they choked. Then refs gave u guys a new set of downs on a bullshit defensive holding call on an interior lineman on a running play. A play that a steeler jumped offsides on.
Steelers are a joke. They’re gonna get rolled.

I’m finding it hard to have a good football conversation when you clearly know nothing about the topic.
I’m not foolish or ignorant enough to sit here and spew off that the Jets are an awful football team and got lucky about the Pats. I know better than that.
by John Stephens on Jan 18, 2011 10:32 AM EST up reply actions
Dude...
you are talking Crackback… it starts off with football, and ends with the Jets winning in a landslide lol (no offense CB, I’m with you.) Don’t take it personal John. You are welcome to talk football here. We have many extremists here, good and bad, but you’ll get good football talk here and there. Still, it does always end in the Jets winning. Just have faith in our team that’s all. No offense to anyone except the Saps(NE) and Anchovies(MIA).
GANG GREEN ALL DAY!
I put God first! Anything else comes a distant second, next to a cross-country third.
Being that I'm Nigerian, being a Jets' Fan only comes natural... it's all about that old Green and White.
You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference. If you don't understand this, then you're losing big time.
I have no problem with someone picking their team. However, I do have a problem with him saying my team is a joke. Anyone who watches football should be able to conclude that is not the case.
by John Stephens on Jan 19, 2011 1:53 PM EST up reply actions
I don’t anyone who watches football can fathom how the Steelers offense will fair well against us. Your team just doesn’t match up with us.
Your QB’s tendency to sqeeze the rock plays right into our hands. We have the athletes to spread out your defense and force your backers off the field and the power running game to knock you off the ball.
You can’t handle the Green and White!!! 27-6 Jets.
Dude....
You can’t be serious.

Simple fact is, if the Jets play the way they have been playing for the last three weeks, there is not a team in this league that can stop us. The Steelers probably have the best defense in football, but they have not been playing that way. Call a spade a spade. The two turnovers that keyed the Steeler comeback against the Ravens came on a poorly protected ball and a mishandled snap. The Ravens gave the game away. If the jets make those mistakes against the Steelers, then the Steelers will win. But we have been playing near perfect football for almost a month now and are clicking on all cylinders. If our defense holds up against Roethlisberger the way it has against Manning and Brady, I feel very good about this game.
It perplexes me that you guys believe the Steelers have not been playing high caliber defense.
126 yards, 5 sacks, and 3 turnovers. They only gave up 24 yards of total offense to the Ravens in the entire second half and -4 in just the 3rd. You can try the “short field” argument, but the Ravens only gained 2.4 yards per play, which is horrible for an offense.
And the Steelers have been playing great for about a month now too. In the last 4 games they have forced 8 turnovers, 14 sacks, and given up only 187 yards per game to their opponents.
Starting to credit turnovers to the offense and not because of the defense is bad logic. Ryan Clark still put his helmet right on the ball when Rice had it. That is just good football. I’d agree that the Steelers were fortunate on the fumbled snap, but they are not the first team to benefit from a bit of luck in a game.

I think the Steelers have a great D
I think some of my fellow Jet fans are actually use to seeing the Steelers be even more dominant on D though. I also believe if the Jets can take advantage of the Steeler O-Line, that it wouldnt matter if you had the 85 Bears defense. No matter how good a defense is, if they have to keep going out there, they will tire eventually.

Anyone can take advantage of our OL. They have a 3rd and 4th string T in there. The key is keeping Ben in the pocket when the OL collapses. In 2008 our OL was no better than it is now.
by John Stephens on Jan 18, 2011 12:07 PM EST up reply actions
The Steelers were down 14
due to a questionable PI call on a 3rd and long, and a fluke play where one person on the field realized the ball was fumbled and not an incompletion. Sounds to me like the Ravens were lucky they only lost by 7.

It makes me laugh
I just think if the Pats beat us they would be big-time favorites over the Steelers, at home or on the road. But we beat the Pats and were now underdogs to the Steelers?
Just like the Pats were the favorite for the Super Bowl, the Jets beat the favorite at home and now have the lowest odds of all 4 teams to win the Super bowl.

While I think it should be a pick em, its not the craziest thing that the home team is favored.

This is essentially a pick 'em
Last line I saw had the Steelers favored by 3-3.5. Considering that’s about the number a team gets just for playing at home, this would pretty much be an even matchup were it on a neutral field. Should be a great game, and like Bart Scott said: CAN’T WAIT!

pittsburgh good d but average offence
let the the so called experts pick pittsburgh , last week shows they don’t always get it right . pittsburgh beat the ravens because they made fewer mistakes on offence thats all . troy wasn’t himself he was actually quite poor for his high standards . as well as pittsburgh played on defence they could easily have lost but for boldin’s drop . troy was not even playing his usual position for most of the game . it was like the coaches were protecting him from another setback . his input on the game was more of a confidence things for the other guys on the d .
we need to rush/blitz big ben more than the last 2 weeks as he can take off running unlike brady and manning .
we should win this game going on form but we need to watch miller and wallace all game .i’m hopeful revis will be fully fit and we have brad back on st’s because if cro gets injured on a return we would find it hard to replace him
Ummm... Flacco and the Ravens lit them up pretty well in the 1st half.
Then shot them in the feet in the s 2nd.
I only pull for the New York Jets. Sorry if that bothers you.
