Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Both Woodhead & Washington made it. Sweeeeeeeet.

Too bad about Brooks Foster though, I thought he was doin’ ok. Was nice on Special Teams.

That’s a good question that I’ve never had to think about in all the years James Dearth was here. If Tanner Purdum goes down, I actually don’t know, so my guess will just be Rob Turner.

I think Mulligan can, not a 100% on that though.

by Judgegavel on Sep 5, 2010 8:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Bell

crack, you might be on to something. Bell had a better 5+ yds per carry than CJ’s 4+ per carry and was the Bills leading rusher in preseason. Makes me wonder though, why? Done mostly with the 2-3 team?

by ocjet on Sep 5, 2010 1:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Sure lets carry 8 RBs, lol

But, I really don’t think so Crack, CW and Woodhead only made the team because of what they do on special teams, not really as RB’s thats just bonus. So even if Bell is much better runner than both I think it would be tough to bring him in not knowing if he could fill their rolls on the coverage units. We are talking the 4th and 5th RB on the chart, its not like either is ever going to carry the ball this year unless we have a couple injuries.

by Judgegavel on Sep 5, 2010 8:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Obviously you cut one of those guys. I did read Bell is lacking in specials, but both Washington and Woodhead leave a lot to be desired when toting the rock. I think Bell would be worth the gamble to see if he could be a cheap successor to LD when he leaves after this season.

I admit i do have a bias for him because he was high on my pre-draft radar. But I see something special about him. I think he can ball. And the folks in Buffalo are sad to see him go.

by Crackback on Sep 5, 2010 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions

And i don’t think it would such a big deal if Bell sucked at specials anyway. Greene wasn’t exactly Mr. Specials at the beginning of last year either, yet somehow we perservered. I’d feel much more comfortable with a guy that has some running skills in case Greene/LD get hurt.

Troy Smith

If we can sign him for the practice squad for this season, he might make a good long term 2nd string QB.

I am guessing Mulligan and Westerman are the odd men out when Holmes and/or Revis return. Maybe Woodhead and Washington. Anyway one of those four is going to get it come week five. Also if Coles is resigned or any other player.
David or JB, do you guys have any idea who they might be? The ones placeholding for Holmes and Revis?

When Holmes comes back in Week 5, or if Coles comes back in Week 2, my guess is either Woodhead or Washington.

If Revis comes back, my guess is Brian Jackson.

IDK about Westerman, they could use some depth at OLB/ pash rusher

Burgess also might make some sense.

Especially with the Pats coming up in week 2 and the strong possibility that Pace won’t be back by then.

jeez

5 RB? I’m assuming either Woodhead or Washington gets cut after Holmes returns.

by secret defense on Sep 5, 2010 12:48 AM EDT reply actions

TE

Or maybe a TE since they have 4, I thought 3 was good enough even for the ground and pound. They have 4 WR and Brad Smith is listed as one, seems thin to me.
I think the special teams will dictate who will get cut and if McKnight craps out and Green gets hurt they would need Woodhead and CW to help LT. At WR I would hope they at least keep 5 when holmes comes back. Don’t know if Woodhead took any snaps at WR, but maybe in the pinch he could. That would remind me of the smurfs, the little receivers they called the smurfs from the redskins I think it was. Either way its a tough call.

by ocjet on Sep 5, 2010 1:26 AM EDT up reply actions

I dont find it that thin, considering...

Woodhead, Keller, and Cumberland could all line up at WR. They bring back Coles week 2, and know Holmes is coming week 5, I could actually see them cutting Clowney then (or more likely Woodhead).

by Judgegavel on Sep 5, 2010 8:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Woodhead was a WR last year

He played the role of Wes Welker in practice when preparing for the Pats last season, week 2, and then they moved him officially to a WR when he was put on the active roster. I dont remember him having bad hands, but his natural position is a RB.

to me it does, whats that real cheesey saying.."Dance with the girl who you came with" or something..lol

New moving parts in the passing game, TJ gone, Greene in his first season as “the guy”. A few things could go wrong here and the running game has been the Jets bread and butter. Depth sounds good until we can say for sure this passing attack will show up every week and win us games.

I know Mcknight is a favorite here but

he should have been on the cut list, it takes Tannenabaum at least 3 years to admit a mistake though(Gholston, Clemens), and this was a mistake. He was outplayed by both Washington and Woodhead, both undrafted I believe, and really doesn’t deserve a roster spot. He never lived up to the hype at USC and he’ll never meet whatever little potential he has in the pros, he just doesn’t have what it takes. I think calling him a poormans Leon Washington is too good for him, and I’m not saying we should have kept Leon. Who ever said if he wasn’t a fourth round pick, he would have already been gone was right, sometimes you just have to cut your losses and this is going to be a loss. But the terminator looks like he’ll make up for it. So far it looks like we hit on 2 of the 4 picks with Wilson and Conner, it looks like Ducasse may take a year or two, and obviously you know how I feel about Mcknight.

by vinnyandthejets on Sep 5, 2010 11:24 AM EDT reply actions

Whats the rationale between Ducasse taking a year or two and McKnight being a clear miss after 4 pre-season games where he’s purposely being used improperly?

by Crackback on Sep 5, 2010 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions

^^^^this

It’s not as if Ducasse has looked any better than McKnight.

by Exystence on Sep 5, 2010 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah but Ducasse was a project some what

we knew that going in. Woody got beat a couple times this preseason from RT, should we cut him for not looking awesome in preseason?

"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama

by BL3ACH on Sep 5, 2010 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I hear ya, and for the most part agree, but I dont think you take a project with a 2nd round pick. That was a stretch based on the preseason. He looked lost in the redskins game when he got beat and Sanchez’s career almost ended on that sack. You dont risk a franchise QB with a rookie OL who is “a project”

http://www.charlottejetsfans.com

by NC_Scott on Sep 5, 2010 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed, to take him that high

I would guess the Jets thought he was either not as raw or would pick this up a little quicker. I just don’t see him as a bad move yet.

Haynesworth

Yeah yeah, everybody calls me crazy. But he could be had for chea right now i bet. And having him on the line next to Jenks on 3rd downs would make me miss Revis a whole lot less.

The pass rush would be sick if we went with a 4-man line with Haynesworth and Jenks up the gut.

by Crackback on Sep 5, 2010 1:10 PM EDT reply actions

trade revis to washington for haynesworth +?? Cause we know Snyder likes to pay players so might as well get another all star and maybe a draft pick or 2.

How about Revis, Devito and Clowney for Hayneworth and Orakpo?

by Crackback on Sep 5, 2010 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Can't tell if you are being sarcastic, but I don't see them giving up Orakpo

for any reason, even though Shanny is very comfortable having an excellent CB on his team. Could the Jets even take on that kind of contract?

"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama

by BL3ACH on Sep 5, 2010 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Not sarcastic at all. Revis is much better than Orakpo; and the difference btw Revis and Orakpo, plus Devito and Clowney and the removal of a headache makes up for Haynesworth.

Haynesworth’s contract is much more reasonable right now, alot of the guaranteed money has already been paid. Plus its a much cheaper option than Revis would be. Even if we’re talking about Revis at the low end of the spectrum (i.e. 12M per plus at least 25M guaranteed).

by Crackback on Sep 5, 2010 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh don't get me wrong He is def a better player then Orakpo by a lot

but they already have D Hall on a huge #1 cb type of deal added with the fact that sacks are sexy, but then again getting Revis for a pain in your ass and Orakpo would be the absolute defenition of selling high.
We haven’t seen Orakpo pllay OLB yet which if you have watched some of these teams move to a 3-4 from a 4-3 you can see its a huge move let alone the example on our roster we have right now.
I would much rather hold on the Revis Hanesworth is not the right guy for this team imo.

"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama

by BL3ACH on Sep 5, 2010 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions

He wouldn’t have to really. He would be strictly a pass rusher. We would probably go with more 4-3 looks anyway. But he wouldn’t have to shoulder any run-stopping responsibilites this year. We have Thomas and Gholston (until Pace comes back); or we can go with a 4-man front with Jenkins & Pouha inside and Ellis & Haynesworth outside on early downs.

We wouldn’t need Revis if we bring those guys in. And we know Shanny loves corners. Maybe they would be willing to open the books for Revis after disposing themselves of the burdens of Haynesworth and Orakpo. Plus they can do a lot of funky things in their new 3-4 with that corner tandem.

by Crackback on Sep 5, 2010 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

tough call

The player Haynesworth would be nice but if he brings his bad attitude here than it could be a bad situation. But if he, like most players wants to play for Rex and they convince him to also play NT and DE in the 3-4, along with some 4-3 formations then we could have a player and our pass rush would improve instantly. He was a monster with the Titans and if he plays inspired that would really be releasing the Kraken. lol
We just don’t want to have a Haynesworthless on the team.

by ocjet on Sep 5, 2010 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Thats the thing, he wouldn’t have to play any NT here bc we have Jenkins and Pouha. He could be strictly a DE in our 3-4 or his natural DT in our 4-3. Our pass rush would be insane with Orakpo at one end and the Kraken at the other, and Pace and/or JT moving around and bringing it from a standing position.

I think Haynesworth would love it here, honestly. Rex would move him around and do all kinds of crazy shit with him and Jenks.

by Crackback on Sep 5, 2010 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Haynesworth is such a bad idea, I can’t even believe this is a discussion topic.

How? He can’t be any worse of a distraction than Revis is. He can’t effect team chemistry any worse than Revis is by sitting out the year, maybe more. At least he would be on the field. And he would probably thrive under Rex. If we could get him here with a guy like Orakpo, it could be a win-win for both sides.
