Take Your Pick: Chauncey Washington vs. Danny Woodhead
An interesting position battle has opened up for the fourth running back spot on the 53 man roster. Shonn Greene, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Joe McKnight are virtual locks to make it. Danny Woodhead and Chauncey Washington sit lower on the depth chart.
It is possible both could make it. The Jets are thin at receiver with Santonio Holmes suspended, and the team does seem to like Woodhead's receiving skills. Gang Green activated him from the practice squad last year to convert him to wide receiver.
The team might opt for just one, though, which could make it a choice between Woodhead and Washington. My pick would be Washington. He looked good hitting holes and running through tackles in preseason. Will it translate to real games? I couldn't say, but I would like to see him get a shot.
Woodhead had chances last year and didn't looked great. He's faster but doesn't do much with that speed. He doesn't really make people miss. He always seems to go down at first contact as well, too small to break tackles. His size also makes me skeptical of his ability to contribute on special teams. It is too easy to take him out of the play. He doesn't play bigger than his size like Jim Leonhard.
My guess is both will initially make the team. If I could only choose one, I would take Washington, though. How about you?

Chauncy
If Greene or LD go down, I think Chauncey would be the much better option to join the rotation. He’s the more powerful of the 2, and can perform the duties required in our offense.
Woodhead is quick, but thats about it. Like JB said, he can’t run away from anybody, he doesn’t make people miss and he can’t break tackles. He’s a scrapper and he’s easy to root for, but he’s not a legit NFL talent.
And if the Bills cut Joique Bell we better snatch him up.
5’ 11" 220 and has been tearing it up this pre-season for Buffalo. Was averaging 8.5 ypc over the first 2 games; averaging 6.5 ypc now.
I’d cut both Chauncey and Woodhead to make room for Bell.
I agree, however...
if everyones healthy I think Woodhead’s the better fit and compliment. Especially if McKnight is not going to be active. I’m just putting two and two together from Manishes tweets.
Rex Ryan all but said that Danny Woodhead will make the #Jets . It’s certainly deserved.
Rex says mcknight “is going to make this team. I’m just not going to play him.”
Just wondering if McKnights not active, and Taylor’s cut, who’s returning punts?
I wish we could keep both
And find somewhere else for McKnight, at least for the time being.
But if I only had to choose 1, it would be Washington.
Woodhead is versatile in being able to be WR/RB but the problem is, he is not vastly skilled in either area. So that really hurts him when you would think it would help.
chauncey
I was picking chauncey a month or more ago and got laughed at by the judge. lol
I even posted numbers of CW in college. He was a workhorse and had good numbers. He was steady and can catch out of the backfield. I like woodhead but CW more powerful and with decent speed. Hoping CW makes it, we’ll see.
Interesting about Bell from buffalo but if he’s tearing it up and they are hurting at RB I don’t see them cutting him. Bills have some good RB’s but the injury bug hit them at that position earlier.
I just have an affinity for Bell, he was a guy i wanted to draft this year. ; ) But it seems like its not out of the realm of possibility. They do have a glutton of backs up there, all battling for time. Lynch is back and Jackson isn’t far behind; and you know they’re dying to get Spiller as many touches as possible. Bell just might be attainable.
I think the choice will come down to who is better at special teams
Westoff might be the decision maker for this battle.

I pick Washington...
I just feel like he is a serious workhouse that God forbid if anything happened to Greene, I see Washington being able to come in and go to work. Woodhead is good, versatility is phenomenal… But put it this way… If Green went down, would you want to see this line up:
1. Ladanian Tomlinson
2. Joe McKnight
3. Danny Woodhead
OR
1. LT
2. Joe McKnight
3. Chauncey Washington
The first shows me scat backs that aren’t going to be that every down back we need. I like LT, but I don’t want to over use the man… Joe McKnight is shaky right now so I can’t say I rely on the man yet… and Woodhead goes down on first contact as we’ve all seen… doesn’t use his speed to hit the holes quickly before they close and just seems like an LT/JM type of running back… we don’t need three of those. Washington would compliment our backfield in a tremendous way.
Just my thoughts.
GANG GREEN ALL DAY!
You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference.
In regards to Woodhead's versatility...
I wouldn’t say phenomenal… it’s “good.”

hits
Like Jerricho said special teams. That’s the main reason why I like CW he hits hard and still has enough speed to get to the ball carrier and avoid blockers. I knew he had a good chance, especially after some good runs a RB. Woodhead is more versatile but they have a few of those guys already. Brad Smith is one and it seems they are almost committed to McKnight. I like both Woodhead and CW but CW more.
Woodhead is the sentimental favorite
kind of reminds me of Wayne Chrebet (smaller guy, leaves his heart on the field, although undoubtedly Chrebet was much better). But Washington is just a better fit with the running game given his running style. I’m not too worried about lacking a WR since with Braylon, J Co, Keller and LT out of the backfield Sanchez “should” have plenty to work with. RB depth is a bigger issue and having a dedicated back rather than a WR/RB who is average at both is more important.
Granted, idieally i’d like both but if we need to i’ll take Chauncey

Keep Both
Send McKnight packing. Get past this mistake asap before it costs the team w’s.
They both make it I think.
Very surprised, but they both contribute on special teams. It amazing I think we are going to take seven RBs and 4 TE to start the season.
