Revis Island

Long time Packer fan here... Curious about the moniker "Revis Island". Myself and a fellow Packer fan are having a disagreement over the moniker "Revis Island". I contend that he gets that nickname cuz the Jets play almost strictly press man coverage. The other Packer fan insists that it due to the fact that Revis covers his area/zone so effectively. He also contends that Rex Ryan is all about zone coverage... I can't say that I ever recall Revis being in zone coverage last year and that the moniker "island" refers to his being on an Island in man coverage. Which coverage does Revis and Ryan play? Seems to me that Cromartie and Wilson are also both press man cover CB.
So which is it?

It's called Revis island.

Because he matches up with the #1 reciever man to man with no safety help a majority of the tiem, you won’t see Revis play zone. Rex loves man coverage.

He ends up all alone "on an island" with the receiver he covers

like p said with no over the top help, so the receiver he covers ends up in isolation.

All the Jets play is man coverage on the receivers

maybe once out of fifty times are they not using this defense. Or at the end of a big important game with a lead they might drop into zone or a prevent type of coverage, like they did a little bit in last years playoffs against the Chargers towards the end of the game.

Revis is mostly in man coverage, but at times in the red zone the jets may go zone

You have to play man as much as the Jets blitz.

You’re right, not your friend, but the Jets do go zone occasionally. We saw some of that in the Chargers playoff game. But, yes, generally he’s alone on an island, without the aid of a safety, completely suffocating his man for sixty straight minutes.

Rex Ryan uses zone coverage like he uses low-fat margarine. Rarely.

Forget about Revis

He’s not going to sign. And I hope that no other team meets the demands that he’s looking for. With the risk of there being no season next year, can he really afford to miss two years of football?
