Drew Coleman May Start at CB2, With Wilson Moving to Nickel
Last week, Jets had a lot of mis-communications in their secondary and it allowed a young, mediocre QB in Chad Henne to throw for 300+ yards.
This week, Jets face the mighty Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is not exactly a gunslinger in his own right. So, it's time to make some adjustments and try some new things.
Newsday's Rod Boone provided the info via a Tweet:
#Jets may, emphasis on may, put Coleman on the outside in Revis' spot and move Wilson back inside to the nickel if Revis doesn't play Sun.
I like it, and this is coming from a guy who has constantly ridiculed Coleman, and didn't even expect to see him on the 53-man roster this year. As it stands though, he was good in coverage late in the Miami game, and made a big tackle on RB Ronnie Brown on the second-to-last play of the Dolphins' final drive.
The irony here, is that Coleman was the guy who allowed WR Greg Camarillo to torch us and beat us late in the first matchup between the two last season. However, he was good last week, so he's earned a shot to start on the outside.
CB Kyle Wilson will now get some reps at nickelback, where he will likely play the following week if CB Darrelle Revis returns. He needs to work on his footwork and positioning as he often has his back to the quarterback. He's got to get turned around, and I believe he will work on it and get there.

i wouldn't say mediocre
henne is decent with pretty good weapons
i dont believe taking wilson out so early because of what it could possibly do to his confidence….. we are not dealing with a vernon gholston here kyle is going to be good
kyle wilson will get it with experience and putting him in the slot is the worst case senerio because covering a decent slot reciever is like covering a top notch reciever he will have a lot more field to cover instead of getting to use the sideline like revis
Oh god
Maybe I wasn’t paying much attention but how much did Coleman actually play against Miami? I’m really concerned that he did good at the end because he was fresh and everyone else was worn down, and that he’ll be exposed as a starter. I really hope that my gut negative feeling is wrong about this >_>
Not sure if this is the best way to go
Seems like the Bills would be a good team for Wilson to play outside against. If he does it enough he will be more comfortable with it.
But Coleman didplaywell in a limited role, not sure if more time would lead to worse play?tough call…
"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama
No
we’ve gotten lucky with Coleman so far this year, don’t give him anymore opportunities to make mistakes. Wilson needs the experience on the outside too, he may be replacing Cro. next year, so let him learn.
Judge, meant to add in that I think Coleman will be on a short leash
If he gets burned a couple of times early, am sure Pettine will make the necessary adjustments.
As JetOrange noted below Rex awards playmakers, and that’s what he’s doing here. Maybe Coleman has finally turned a corner, who knows? It’s early on in the season so I think if you’re going some chances with him, you do it here, against the mighty Bills and Fitzpatrick lol.
Off of memory I think Coleman is in a contract year, and this really is it for him as he’s been less than disappointing here. We lack depth at CB and I say we give him a shot here, can always yank him if he reverts to old form, but let’s give him a shot against a very weak WR corps

Coleman Vs, WR Roscoe Parrish
First of all I love the fact that Rex rewards playmakers. I confess that I have been a Drew Coleman Hater, seeing only a little redeeming value in special teams.. Drew gets an opprotunity against Roscoe Parrish, same size and speed , just a nice matchup…
Wilson gets Steve Johnson, who doesn’t have great speed, allowing Wilson to play aggressively. Steve Johnson is the kind of receiver that a young CB can build confidence on.
IMO Lowery would play instead of Coleman if Bills receivers were bigger and more physical, If James Hardy was starting for the Bills I think Rex would put Lowery at CB.

Good post
+1111 about Rex rewarding playmakers. Coleman is in a contract year I believe, maybe he has turned a corner. And If we’re gonna take a shot on him and give him a(nohter)chance, we have to do it in this game. (or maybe week 17 when we play Buffalo again and HOPEFULLY will have clinched, lol)

Matchups, Matchups. Matchups
Once again, Coleman vs. Roscoe Parrish, both 5’9 180…
Two additional points:
1. Coleman IMHO has hung around because of Westoff, and his ability to contribute on ST. Drew is only a sixth round pick and has gone through three coaching regimes. Second year in Rex’s system, maybe he is starting to get it. The key to hanging around is impressing Westoff, and Rex will give you a shot if your a playmaker. Think about Chauncy Washington, one ST big hit , gets him a game ball, lands him on the Practice squad, increasing his visability and now he is on the Rams roster. Rex’s reward policy in action…
2. We all know that McKnight made the roster on future potential The Jets have taken a lot of hits with the Success of Leon , Woodhead and Chuancy going to the Rams.. The Coleman promotion says to the fans and more importantly the PLAYERS that the meritocracy is in place….Colemans promotion goes with Wilson your Number one picks demotion
Call me skeptical...
but I’m skeptical. lol
Actually, I think one of the things that makes Revis really good is his physicality. So maybe, and put an emphasis on maybe, if Coleman can emulate that physical aspect that Revis is so good at, we can have a really decent match up.
Honestly, Id rather send our very own crackback out on the field and cover someone. The Bill could sign WIlford Brimley, and Drew Coleman would still give up 150 yards to the man with the diabetus.
so-so coverage skills...
But can lay the smackdown on someone coming across the middle lol
España 2010 Campenoes del Mundo!!!
Crackback is a great cover corner, FWIW

Think I'd rather see CB as the CB too
Am I missing something? Did we cut or trade Lowery or something?
I’d rather have a fathead of Revis on the field than Coleman.
