Darrelle Revis Doesn't Have Pulled Hamstring

Photo

per NJ.com:

Darrelle Revis says his hamstring is not pulled or torn, and he'll have an MRI on it tomorrow.

No matter what it is, he needs to sit until it is better. That kind of injury only gets better with rest. There's no point in having him out there if he's not 100%. The Jets need him at his best, and there's no reason for him to risk making it a longer term deal.

better without him for short term than long term. We need him back at no less than 100%

We saw what Revis looks like at 70-85% today, and it wasn’t pleasant. The rest of the secondary stepped up in his absence. Fins pass attack not as strong as Pats’. We’ll be okay.

is he the next burres ?

I think he was the greatest corner last season.

He has showed slow and fat in this 2 weeks, he should go back to the training camp until he is ready.

He signed a juicy contract…. is he going to be the next plaxico ?

I hope that his family keeps his guns away !!

by old mcdonald on Sep 19, 2010 10:34 PM EDT reply actions

Really?

he gave up 2 passes for35 yrds and a td to one of the best ever. And no catches in week one. After a week and a half of practice. The moss td looked like there was supposed to be safety help but Brady went with a quick snap. His hammy problem is his fault for holding out but his play has been just as good as last year so the Burress comment is offbase.

Hate to say it...

because I’m a Revis fanatic, but his holdout is costing us. 1) His hammy is a direct result. Had he been in better shape he wouldld have been on Boldin game one. 2) While he can lock guys down with no practice it’s evident Cro and Wilson would be more comfortable in their roles if they had spent all preseason playing with him. They looked so much better when he went out maybe because they spent6 weeks practicing in those roles. They should think about sitting him next week and keep him out of practice until it heals, those things linger. Cro has gone up against Marshall enough and has had success and they don’t have a wlker to bother Wilson. I know it’s Mia and we need the win.

let him rest till he’s 100%, it helps that we are playing one of the worst passing teams in the league this week.

You know what the best part about this comparison is?

Miami’s passing offense is currently ranked 28th.
NY Jets passing offense is currently ranked 29th :)

Difference: Miami has been ahead in both of their games, and choose to pound the rock and eat up the clock….even against good run defenses like Minnesota. The Jets have played mostly from behind, and had to pass….yet you are still behind us.

I’d be worried if I were you… Not a whole lot of game film on our passing attack, and I believe that was by design.

Sparano isnt smart enough to gameplan like that

Sorry but the Fins do not have the passing offense that the Pats have. Marshall is decent when not dropping passes, but you dont have Brady, Welker(that was a great trade BTW), Hernandez and Randy Moss. The Fins do possess something the Pats do not, a running game. The Jets even without big Jenks are excellent at stopping the run. Today the Jets proved without some of their best players they could still take of business. Dolphins fans should be worried.

by YankeesJets on Sep 20, 2010 1:21 AM EDT up reply actions

You mean he wouldn't hide something and then spring it on a team?

Like the Wildcat? Nothing like that right? lol
Marshall is a top 3 WR in the league, indisputable.

As for our rushing game, the Vikings had the 2nd best rushing defense in the league last year, and we did pretty well against them Sunday.

Dolphins fans aren’t worried at all. While we appreciate you guys had a great outing this week, we know that this was the exception, not the rule. Sanchez’s performance against the Ravens is more like him. The Patriots defense aren’t exactly top notch. They are very very young, and their secondary is very suspect. We have none of those problems….. For comparison. The Patriots passing defense is ranked 28th in the league…..we are 7th.

I’m not concerned at all. Mike Nolan was our biggest acquisition, and our defense is absolutely sick right now. Cameron Wake is going to be a major headache for Sanchez, of that there is no question.

You got a few lucky turnovers against a QB that isnt ready to play

I cant wait to see Henne against that Ravens Defense. Sure the Pats D isnt what it once was but its still prepared by a very smart coach. The wildcat gimmick is dead against the Jets and Pats, you know it to be true. The Vikings havent seen your wildcat smoke and mirror junk, it always works for the Fins the first time around. This was the exception not the rule? While the Phins were sitting on the couch, the Jets were winning playoff games. Say they backed in, but teams werent laying down in the playoffs.

by YankeesJets on Sep 20, 2010 1:35 AM EDT up reply actions

4 Interceptions and stripped ball is not lucky...

its dominating…. even if one of those INT’s was called back due to an offsides penalty.

As for when we play the Ravens, they should be healed and better by then. You faced them with their FIRST and SECOND starting CBs out….AND their starting Safety was out…. you played against their 2nd and 3rd string guys an entire game, and couldn’t produce more than 74 yards or whatever it was. It should have been a preseason game for your starting offense…. but you floundered, and as best I can read here, everyone was ready to strangle Sanchez. Now that he produces against the 28th ranked passing defense he’s good? Where is the consistency here?

The wildcat, as Miami uses it, is not a gimmick. When you use it, when other teams use it, its a gimmick…. we use it enough that its an actual base formation, no different than a Power I, 4 Wide Receiver set. The wildcat is still averaging over 6 yards per play against both the Jets and Patriots…although you guys did hold it fairly in check in the 2nd meeting last year…but one of our core pieces was injured (Cobbs).

As for the Wildcat being the exception, its averaged 6 yards per play since we started using it…. thats a rule. Thats not an exception. Stopping it, thus far has been the exception. Now, AFCE teams should be better at stopping it, as you see it twice a year….however, we have yet to roll out the Thig-Cat…. Which has Thigpen running the formation, as opposed to Pat White (who was a failure). Thigpen can run as well as White, and throw much much much better.

You guys played well in the Playoffs last year, I wouldn’t say differently. You didn’t earn your way in, but you played like you did once you got there….so I wouldn’t talk down to that at all. Its a tired argument, just like the people that call the Patriots the “cheats”……its over, its the past….this year is what counts.

And right now….today.
The Dolphins are in sole possession of the AFC East.

In week two you are celebrating first place? Giants were 5-0 and missed the playoffs last year. Sanchez was bad against Ravens but it wasnt all him, the offensive gameplan was garbage. You really think Thigpen and Cobbs are players any teams fear? Gimme a break. Jets and Pats shut that wildcat junk down the second time around. I pray that they try and use it again, it will be a blowout. I agree about the Pats “cheats” junk too.

As a matter of fact, yes.... I am celebrating.

We’re 2-0 for the first time since 1998. The chances of a team making the playoffs is astronomical if they start 2-0…. So, yes, I’m celebrating, as would you if you were 2-0 and everyone in the division was chasing you.

I think Cobbs should be feared when we run the wildcat, as the formation takes a step back anytime he’s out due to injury… ask any dolphin fan, and they’ll tell you the same….its not the same without Cobbs. As for Thigpen… well, as a quarterback running an offense, I doubt he’s instilling fear. But give the wildcat a true two sided weapon? And who knows… even Miami fans haven’t seen it, so nobody knows… but thats what makes the wildcat so deadly…. is the threat of a pass.

And yes, we will run the Wildcat against you, be sure of it…. probably expect 6-8 plays…and even more if we are within the 5 yard line.

Especially since one of the two teams you played was the Bills. And the Vikings, aside from AP, don’t look anything like they did last year.

We blanked the Ravens running game, and the Pats passing game (without Revis, Jenkins and Pace btw). And we still haven’t run the ball like we want to.

We ran the ball down their throats after sustaining a 2 possession lead in both games. I admit I’d prefer to see us run up the score some, but thats not our style (at least not yet). Once we got the 2 possession lead, it was all ground and pound. So much so, that we let both teams have a chance to get back in it.

Thats the only reason this game wasn't a blow out.

Ricky fumbled on the 2, which led to an AP touchdown
Ronnie fumbled on the 25, which led to us stopping AP on 4-1 on the one yard line.

Both fumbles came on plays immediately made after we intercepted the ball.

Despite that, we still won the game.

Marshall is only a top wideout if he’s got a QB who can get him the ball. And he isn’t even a top 10 WR this year, much less top 3.

Matter of fact his yardage over two games barely cracks top 20 in the league, and the guy has yet to find the endzone. Sounds like a JAG to me.

from last year….. He’s doing just fine.

As the season goes on Marshall will heat up, as will Henne. Henne finished last season with several 300 yard games, so its not like we are worried he can do it. He just hasn’t had to do it this year.

Last year aint this year Fr8.

Last year’s number 2 passing D gave up 255 yards passing and 2 TDs; 34 points total.

If Jermichael Finley can go off for 4 catches and 103 yards against them, why couldnt Marshall have a big game?

by Crackback on Sep 20, 2010 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Well first off Finley is a TE who would've exploited mismatches....

the better comparison is the 2 WRs:

Greg Jennings – 3 catches for 36 yards
Donald Driver – 4 catches for 38 yards

And the Packers are a much better passing team then the Dolphins at this stage of the game, without question.

Really? Because the strength of their D is their safeties, who usually are assigned to cover TEs. If their safeties can be exploited like that, you would think that a top 3 receiver like Marshall would have had a field day against their corners.

The numbers speak for themselves. Jennings is a great receiver in his own right, and he has a much better QB (at this point) throwing him the ball…

Frankly...

If he plays like he did today he’d be a liability in the sense that our secondary and D in general did better without him.

Not being there for the preseason has clearly hurt him and if he can’t practice it’s a step backwards. It’ll be midseason before he’s up to form at this rate.

by cult hero on Sep 20, 2010 1:20 AM EDT up reply actions

The secondary did better without him not because of his play, but because Rex let up on the rendundant all-out blitz scheme and let his guys play football. Revis has been fine. More than fine actually. The TD to Moss was a great throw and a spectacular catch. Not much you can do about it but tip your cap to two all time greats there.

First and foremost glad it’s nothing serious; was just waiting to hear that he’s out for 6 weeks. I agree to sit him until it’s healed and that we’ll get by against Miami. Their run game is what caused us problems.

by nationalist88 on Sep 19, 2010 11:17 PM EDT reply actions

The run game was shut down in the second game last year

Ginn was what killed the Jets in that game. Jets dominated every stat except the most important one. Fins fans better get ready for some pain.

by YankeesJets on Sep 20, 2010 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Those stats are a little skewed because of what Ginn did.

He kept us off the field for more than a full quarter worth of time, thus not producing any offensive stats. When we did get on the field (and we were behind at the time), the offense drove down the field fairly easily to score.

Stats don’t tell the story of that game…. Ginn beat you guys all to hell, which is sad. But, because of his performance, our offense just didn’t have a chance to record any stats.

The Jets controled that entire game

The Fins won fair and square but it was due to Ginn. I think Henne threw for like 127 yards and the RBs ran for like 27 yds each. The two wins over the Jets last season were thanks to Ginn.

by YankeesJets on Sep 20, 2010 1:37 AM EDT up reply actions

again, the offense didn't get on the field for more than an entire quarter....

Of course their stats are going to be low…. Ginn attributed to the win, no doubt, but we were still losing when the offense took the field, and drove down to score the winning drives. That is undeniable….

If you go back and watch that game, the Jets dominated

Ginn’s 2 kickoff return TDs were what stole that game.

by YankeesJets on Sep 20, 2010 1:54 AM EDT up reply actions

We scored 30 points in that game....

Ginn’s returns account for less than half of those.

The Miami offense had possession in the second half.
1st – three and out
2nd – 67 yard drive, resulting in TD & failed 2 pt conversion
3rd – three and out
4th – kneeled to win the game…

3 real possessions, and on the one where we had to drive down to score and win the game, we did….the 3rd possession was with 5:52 remaining, and we ran 2 straight run plays to milk the clock, and then Henne was sacked….

The stats don’t tell the story of that game, because our offense wasn’t on the field…. Twist it however you want, but take an entire quarter away from any offense, and the stats will be skewed.

The game didn’t play out that way…. its a pointless argument. Maybe if Ginn doesn’t run those two back, maybe Henne blows up in the passing game? Maybe Ricky takes a couple long runs to the house…… nobody knows, because it just didn’t happen.

But, like I said ,we were still losing after those 2 returns…and we still drove down and scored when we had to… Its a game from a season that is over, which now means its meaningless….

Cro played zone in SD, you're talking out of your @$$.

Instead of spewing nonesense and flame comments, how about you make a coherent arguement. Your the same dude who said, “I see that moronic swagger is back”.

I still can’t believe he grabbed his leg as soon as Moss beat him. Like to tell the country that he didn’t beat me its my leg. Its like Revis is a different person since he came back.Anyone else notice anything like this or could I be disgruntled from the holdout? I am trying to be objective here.

Revis insulting other players in the media, holding out, it all makes him look like some punk

I hate how he grabbed his hamstring after that play, basically saying he didn’t beat me i got injured.

Obviously it looked awful but the reality is he gave up a TD.

In the same vein if you watched the game you’d notice our defense wasn’t set because of the hurry up and we should have had safety help back there.

Next up Brandon Marshall!!

Bet Revis is going to sit next week!! Having been beat a couple times by Randy Moss, he definately does not want to be shown up by Brandon Marshall.

The one problem with Hamstring injuries, is that they take 4 – 6 months to completely heal!!

Lol

Marshall best known for his amazing YAC
And Cromartie best known for not tackling…hahhahaha this season is shaping up so nice. And Marshall knows Cromartie very well after abusing him 2x a year with the Broncos

The same as last year, so they’re pretty consistent with that.

and the home of the... JETS!!!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. And the hamstring tender.

I'd like to think some of the Dolphin fans over here represent well....

but you’ll always have the drunk idiots…..

Drunk idiot??

Did I say something that wasn’t true? Its not a known fact that Marshall is great getting yards after the catch and that Cromartie stuggles with tackling to put it nicely? Some ppl love to turn into Jason Taylor, go play for/ root for the other team already. Smh

by afceast on Sep 20, 2010 4:59 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

No no, not you....

But there are more than enough idiot Fin fans that come over with with nothing concrete to argue just to spam and be idiots….

Just as there are the same Jet fans that come over there, and just as there are the same people in every single fan base of every single team….

Didn’t mean to sound like I was calling you out… not my intention.

No I understand Fr8Train

Hopefully its a great game for both clubs but I have a ton of faith in Miami which has seemed rear these last couple of years

I feel the same way...

of course I’m a homer too…

I try to look objectively, but I have to admit, the Dolphins/Jets games always push my “objectivity” to the max….

But, I honestly had us losing to Minnesota, and claimed it many times….so, I try to be honest with evaluations.

you gotta learn humility when it comes to sports

it’s instilled in my brain to hope for the best but expect the worst…especially as a jets, knicks, and islanders fan(although i AM a yankees fan but i hate baseball)
people hear im a jets fan nd they automatically assume im a senseless trash talker who thinks my team is the best
i thought we’d lose to the pats last week, i knew it’d be a close game against the ravens, nd i think we CAN beat you guys too…but that never means we will. and even if we do, i think and hope itll be a close one
