Sanchez Shines in Jets Win

Remember that time the Jets' quarterback had a lousy opener, a bunch of people gave up on him, and then he came back and had the best game of his career six days later? The Jets played a terrific game today to even their record at 1-1, but nobody stood taller than the beleaguered quarterback who put together the finest game of his young career.

The Jets dominated the second half of this contest after New England did so in the first quarter. This team faced a lot of adversity as the roster took a number of hits due to injury. Players stepped up in their place.

Gang Green is 1-1 and has a chance to get into first place next week against Miami. Everybody can exhale.

The official recap will be up later.

That was the Sanchez I remember from USC

You have to be patient with him. He’s going to have like he had today and games like he had on Monday. Just be patient with the guy.

He is a natural playmaker.

He is best when moving in those small semi-circles in the pocket.

Finally

playing like the team I know we are. Also, on the other side of the convo, Revis held Moss to two catches for 38 yards and a TD, and then the secondary shut him out the rest of the game =-)

Fins fan here. Watched your game, impressive stuff.

Also won a bit of money on your boys, which is good. I’d be one of the few fins fans who’d back Jets over Pats in a fight. And will do until Belicheat is gone.

Anyway, looking forward to next week. We don’t have the passing threat NE does, but you’ll find we’re a whole lot more physical on both sides of the ball. Pats were pussies today, frankly. No stomach for the fight. Jets wanted it far more, in particular LT. His preseason wasn’t a mirage, I guess. Wierd to see JT terrorising Brady at the end there in the wrong colours. Thems the breaks I guess.

My call before the season was rock paper sicissors – Jets to beat Pats, Pats to beat Fins, Fins to beat Jets. It’s a matchups thing. Part 1 complete, but who can say what will happen. Hopefully I’ll win more money, and the fins go out in front for a while. Either way it’ll be fun.

I agree.

We are all fans of football, and while we can take some friendly rivalry jabs at each other, we just need to keep it on the game and not let it get personal. After all, we’re watching our teams play an always tough divisional matchup and I think it will be an awesome game.

You guys still have a good defense, and our defense appears to be playing strong so far, so I think that it’s going to come down to a battle between the Ds.

And unless you guys think it would be a bad idea, I was going to see about putting up a Q&A post probably on Tuesday.

As well as Sanchez played, there were long stretches when he wasn't all that

accurate on medium/short passes, Keller and Edwards bailing him out with very nice catches. QB accuracy is a pretty important quality, and he just doesn’t have it yet at a consistent level. He isn’t there yet.

Down the opposition knows this and we never get the push we want to while stranding our corners etc out there, we played it a little safer today which seemed to work.

Just sayin’, the receivers did a good job making Sanchez look GREAT, when it was merely very good. Its as much about how good the receivers were, as about how Sanchez has a way to go.

He sure is

And today, he looked great. He was looking off the safety all game, and throwing back to the other side. Was making things happen, and for the first time i can remember, he was throwing heat. His arm looked stronger than it’s ever looked, and his confidence became unbelieveable. Today, he played like the Sanchize.

He was looking off the safety all game, and throwing back to the other side.

He definitely was going side to side (but not sure that this is the same thing as looking off the safety). Looking off the safety is KNOWING you are going left and intentionally looking right (etc). But at least he was making his reads across the field, which certainly has the effect of freezing the safety on the opposite side of the field.

Keller and Edwards bailing him out with very nice catches. QB accuracy is a pretty important quality

If the QB puts the ball where the receiver can catch the ball, preferably where the defense can’t, regardless of how much bailing out the receiver does by making a nice catch (which by the way is what the better ones are paid more for); he’s as accurate as he needs to be.

I have mixed feelings about Revis

I feel slightly happy that he felt the downside to missing camp and not playing with his team.
I felt the coverage was much better after he got hurt. Possibly because Brady didnt feel like he would have to pick on any one Corner too much. I also think the defense was used to playing without him after a full camp of him being absent.

On a slightly “self serving” note. I stuck to my guns about Cro not defending Welker for about a solid month. And how his skill set more suited the covering of a player like Moss. I cant possibly imagine an outcome that proves my point more. Sorry for that.

1. 3rd-and-1 pass to Keller for 39 yards. After Cromartie’s INT, they had to get points. Everyone was looking sneak or dive, and they pulled a trick out of the bag, took another 5 minutes off the clock, got 3 points, and gave the defense some rest.
2. JT’s strip sack of Bieber that sealed the game. Still hard for me to root for him, but with efforts like that it’s hard not to! With 5 minutes left and 3 TO’s for the Pats, I was afraid that if they scored, the Jets would go into their shell and have to give it back to Brady, and I did not want that to even be a possibility.

Great win! Hopefully many more to come.

He cold have thrown to TRich for 20 yards or run for 20 yards. The Pats were completely fooled on that play.

I think my play of the game was Pools INT on Moss

It said that the D could survive without Revis.

That was a great play to keep his feet in for sure.

And to get ALL the way to the sideline in coverage, in place to make the play.

What's nice is.....

The Patriots game plan was to make Sanchez beat them….

AND HE DID!!!!!

by jetsbill on Sep 19, 2010 8:10 PM EDT reply actions

a reallly nice mix of run and pass

Yep

LDT had some real nice runs, and Greene grounded and pounded at the end.

by BWJ on Sep 19, 2010 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions

What was interesting to see was LT's second gear.

He doesn’t really have a strong 3rd gear, but his ability to break from 1st to 2nd gear, just out of the hole, is still there.

Still some gas left in that old tank. Also nice to see the elusiveness and ability to break through arm tackles.

by BWJ on Sep 19, 2010 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I would have to say

I was worried that the Jets would loose the fire that Thomas Jones brought with him. He use to go nuts when the game began. Just jumping and screaming. I was wondering if LT could bring that fire. Then he busted a run, and i’m honestly shocked he didn’t actually explode into pieces. LT has the fire. He went crazy after his big run. It’s really nice to see one of the best backs the NFL has ever had getting that fired up and playing great again.

by jetsbill on Sep 19, 2010 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions

The fire surprises me. Its turning me into an LT fan, and I always

thought he was a little overrated, even in his prime.

Me too

I’ve always been a fan, but i always thought he was a passive guy. Then last week, he’s following Ray Lewis around the field talking shit, and then this week, he just got crazy. The guy has fire, heart, and a crap load of talent. I already love having him on the team.

by jetsbill on Sep 19, 2010 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions

And the Jets offense needs that intensity.

In fact both he and Edwards were on FIRE.

Glad that Edwards was on fire and had such a good game, but PLEASE stop taunting the other team’s DBs. He could have easily been flagged for it again after the 2 pt conversion.

by BWJ on Sep 19, 2010 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed.

And I complained at the time. But over all, it was nice to have him in the game plan, to see the guy lifting the team.

I could be worse

You could be a dipshit “reporter” saying the Jets would lose by 22.

Let's see how his legs hold up through the season. I expect that by game 6

most of the carries will be going to Greene

maybe so if he keeps taking hard hits

but that explosiveness he has thru preseason and the 1st 2 games is what I thought he didn’t have anymore.

I hear you Bleach I said the same thing… Was definitely wrong about LD, that guy is running like his ass is on fire.

by nationalist88 on Sep 19, 2010 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions

The Chargers probably should eat some crow too!

I know it’s still very, very early in the season but here are some stats for Tomlinson and the guy that replaced him and the guy that he replaced (technically).

Tomlinson-22 rushing attempts 138 ruyds
Matthews-24 rushing attempts 101 ruyds
Jones-33 rushing attempts 122 ruyds

that’s not counting the receiving yards. Looking at the competition we had for the first 2 games makes me even more convinced that some of his lack of production in San Diego was the system/playcalling. The same applies for how productive TJ was with the Jets. If Tomlinson maintains this pace he will hit at least 1100 rushing yards and at least 300 receiving yards if he remains healthy and productive.

So glad it was Taylor and not Pouha that was dinged.

Didn't matter

he was back in a series and made the sack a bit later.

by Judgegavel on Sep 19, 2010 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

And after the sack he was being worked on pretty seriously.

But the one guy we can’t lose is Pouha.

Did anybody else see Mike’d Up after his Giants were destroyed? The pain in his face as he complimented Sanchez was quite the sight. He still found a way to make it less about the Jets doing well and more about the Patriots doing poorly, though.
