How about a 17 week schedule
We all know this last preseason game is a total waste, and a lot of people think 18wk schedule is too much, so I propose to add it on to the regular season like this...
After 16 games there is always a bunch of teams tied for a wildcard spot, so why not take the four top conf teams who are not division winners play against each other, the four division winners would also play each other to keep things honest and the rest of the teams just filling out the schedule. Also think it would be great to see them as inter conference games too. The wild card teams would be undisputed and the division winners would have a chance to improve their conference rank for playoff seeding.

Wouldn’t that kind of give teams disincentive to not win the division? Wouldn’t it be better to come in second in the division so that you have an easier path in the playoffs?
If your going to have those teams make it in, maybe it would make more sense to have a division playoff (first and second place team from the division play each other), then go from there. It would kind of add to the built in rivalries as well.
I kinda like it, but i don’t think it comes out to 17 games for everybody.
I thought of this, too.
But then, no sports league has an odd-numbered regular season. And I assume it’s because they wouldn’t work as well.
Is it NFL time yet?
See the problem that I have with all of it is
a longer season means new and reworked contracts to dish out more compensation. I don’t feel like having Revis x100,000.
Nooo I agree with them getting paid more,
I just don’t feel like dealing with more unnecessary stand offs between the owners and the players union.
Reason noone has an ubalanced schedule is that the home versus away schedule won’t match up. 17 games could work. With the NFLs desire to expand globally every team could play one game internationally. (Canada, Mexico, Europe, etc.) This way there is no unbalance of home versus away games.
