I'm like everyone else I'm tired of hearing about Darelle Revis' holdout and honestly I just don't understand why the two side can't get together and hammer something out. The Jets need to understand that Revis is one of the best if not best defensive player in the NFL right now but then Revis also needs to understand that he isn't a free agent and doesn't have the same leverage the Asomugha did with the Raiders. So with that said, I wanted to start a thread with us suggesting possible contract scenarios that hopefully the Jets and Revis can read and maybe get some ideas on how to close the deal.
So here are my two suggestions.
1 Year contract that would pay Revis the equivalent of the Jets putting a franchise tag on him + a signing bonus of 1 million. I think this would be a very fair contract and the Jets can sign him to a long term deal after the NFL CBA issues are settled. Also the Jets get an insurance policy for Revis for the one year that pays him $30 million if he suffers a catastrophic injury.
10 Year contract worth worth about $120 million a year with a $10 million signing bonus. Total $130 million with about $30 million guaranteed.
Included in the contract would be bonus clauses to help escalate his salary.
100k for making the Pro Bowl
200K if the Jets make the Playoffs
200k if the Jets win the Division
200k if the Jets finish with the best record in Football.
200k if the Jets win the Wild Card Round or get a Bye
200k if the win the Divisional Round
500k if they win the Conference Round and make the Super Bowl
1 million if they win the Super Bowl
1 million if he wins Defensive Player of the year
500k if he win Super Bowl MVP
1 Million if he wins league MVP
I don't know if a contracts like this is even possible but I'm just trying to think out of the box.
So lets hear your suggestions and hopefully this helps.
