Calvin Pace Out 6 Weeks
According to Manish's twitter:
BREAKING: #Jets Calvin Pace out about 6 weeks with broken right foot, according to source. Big blow for #NYJ. #nfl
This is a big blow for the Jets, it will mean Pace will miss the home opener against Baltimore, the home game against the Patriots, the away trip to Miami as well as the away trip to Buffalo. He could return for the home game against the Vikings, or the week 6 trip to Denver.
This leaves a big hole for the Jets that needs to be filled by Jason Taylor. I have faith in Taylor doing a job, but now do we start thinking about Adalius Thomas? who enjoyed an 11 sack season under Rex Ryan. Or do you believe that Jason Taylor can adequately fill in until Calvin returns.
Either way, losing a player like Pace is not the way we wanted to start the year.

This sucks
But I think we can win without him. I mean we did it last year with Vernon Gholston starting right?

Revis now in a great position
With Pace out and a weaker passrush better coverage is a must. Now more then ever this preseason it seems Revis might have the edge.

Don't think that matters to the Jets
They won’t meet his asking price nor should they.

Way to go Rex...
I say this because this doesn’t happen if the starters aren’t left in way longer then they should have been.
Well being honest, can't really argue with you
Its not like the D was playing bad or something. Of course hindsight is 20/20. But the 3rd preseason game the starters play much more then the other games, its not like the Jets were the only team that had its starters in.

Yeah...
…most teams play their starters late into game 3 and then sit them in game 4.

You never know what will happen...
ask Leon Washington. It could have been the end of a game or the first play of the game. Pre-season…regular season…slipping in the parking lot. It’s the nature of the beast and to blame Rex is unsubstantiated on something that is normal practice.

I’m not that concerned. Pace missed the first 4 games last year and Jenkins missed nearly the entire season, and the Jets led the league in just about every defensive category. I think now they need to focus more on signing “the player that shall not be named”.
How many of those games did Revis miss?
Pretty sure it was zero.
I have to disagree with all of those people who say it won’t matter. Why does he even start then? Why don’t the Jets just cut him and save the money on his salary? The team can survive it, sure, but this is a better football team with Pace in the lineup.

I don’t think anyone actually think the Jets are better without him, just that they can survive it because they were in the same position last year and survived it. Guess this means I’ll actually have to forgive JT and start rooting for him.
We had a an all world corner and a much softer schedule at the beginning of last year. Our pass rush was already weak, and now lost our best rusher.
We don’t have our best corner nor our best pass rusher and our QB gives us little confidence that he can score points and we open against 2 potent offenses and a division rival that has our number at the momnet. But there’s no reason to be alarmed?
A "much softer schedule" last year?
With games against the Texans, Pats, and Saints? Not so sure about that. I’ll give you the Titans, however. I agree it would be better if the had their all world corner there.
Still have the Pats and Texans. Throw in the Vikes, the Ravens, the Bengals (revenge), the Packers, and the Steelers (Big Ben is back and they still have a threatening defense). And would add Chicago because Cutler can go off on any given Sunday.
My misunderstanding
I thought you were just talking about the first 4 games that Pace is projected to miss compared to the 4 he missed at the beginning of last year. My bad. If you’re talking about the whole season, then yeah I agree with you.
Nah ur right. The first 4 last year is probably tougher than this year's.
Although this year’s is no cake walk. But it was me that took you out of context. My bad.
A # 1 is This is 100% Rex's own fault
- Please dont pickup Adalius I just dont think he has anything left.
- Aaron Schobel Anyone?
- So Pace is out for 6 weeks. Does that mean’s he only misses the first 4 games rite?
didn't he retire
His contract had had a crap load of money left on it , for him to walk away that tells me he doesnt what to play anymore.

Let's Try to Find Someone to Substitute For Him
Seriously, injuries happen to starters on every team. Now the question becomes, do we have enough depth at the OLB position that Pace’s absence doesn’t prevent the team’s success? Jason Taylor has been the gold-standard of the position for a decade, and in this league there will always be a diamond in the rough that can seem to come out of nowhere and put on a great performance (Dumervil anyone?). Who knows – maybe the next big thing is already on the roster, biding his time, waiting for an opportunity to get on the big stage and knock Brady off his pedestal and onto the ground.
But let’s not jump to the conclusion that just because Pace is gone means we can’t find a sub for him, much less win without him – just ask Kris Jenkins.
The problem with that argument
Is A) The word “decade”. Gonna be 36 by the start of the season.
B) Dumervil averaged over 10 sacks a season his first 2 seasons. Hardly a diamond in the rough. James Harrison is the way to go, but I see noone on the roster like him.
C) End/backer is a far more important position than NT. Plenty of teams succeeded with NT platoons (Chargers, Jets, Miami, Denver, Packers kinda).
Might be time to start thinking about negotiating a treaty with Revis Island, eh?
Pace worries me… out last year, out this year, out with the Cardinals that he’s being sued for… why’s he on our payroll? This is, in my opinion, is a huge blow… sure we did it last year but he made us better this year… Sure hope Taylor has stuff left in the tank like he says he does…
Different situations...
last season was not injury.

yeah I agree, he was ready willing an able to play but not allowed

This hurts more than most will probably admit
We held the line without Pace in the first four last year, excellent point. But later in the year he became and unsung hero and was really a major part of the defensive onslaught we unleashed.
BUT I think this is a gift in disguise. They may not do it still but I think Rex and T should seriously consider Adalius Thomas. I think Taylor is a great athlete with stuff left in the tank but I would feel so much better with Thomas on the roster to spell him.
I also think we should investigate Thomas
it should be considered, they should do that due diligence thing they talk about. I was hoping for a good year from Pace. He seemed motivated, that hit he put on Eli is burned into my subconscious now and forever.
