Slauson Named Starting Left Guard
LG Vladimir Ducasse did not have a good training camp or preseason. As a result, LG Matt Slauson has been named the starter in the Jets' MNF opener against the Ravens. While Ducasse may be the man of the future, Slauson has proven he is the right man for the job, and the Jets have awarded it to him.
Slauson was lucky enough last season to receive mentoring from veteran All-Pro LG Alan Faneca, which has certainly helped him this season.
#Jets LG battle is over. M Slauson will be Wk 1 starter, per source. After Ducasse nearly got Sanchez killed last nt, it's not surprise #nfl
Well I know our own Ryan Alfieri will be happy, if you remember he posted a great feature on Slauson which can be viewed (here).
This is a surprise to no one. All of us here on GGN have discussed it, and I mentioned it in my training camp report on Tuesday. Ducasse needs to work on his footwork because right now, guys are just running right around him.

Don’t think you needed a “source” to confirm this one. Pretty evident from just looking, Slauson was by far the better guard in the first three games.

Oh no doubt, polish the technique get some reps in practise, keeper learning. He’s got plenty of time, never expected him to start this year anyway.

Yeah, a rookie talking back to his coach never ends well. I still almost fell out of my chair when they announced that Vlad took third AND second in the contest.
Ha yer, but that rookie showed looked brutal. The veterans were not impressed at all.

Jackson is not as ugly
I saw Jackson at Cortland. Ducasse is by far fuglier.
Like they said on hard knocks, it’s not always the ugliest one. Perhaps the one that is most disliked, and a rookie mouthing at a coach isn’t sitting well with the coaches.

Ducasse was'nt worth the pick
Jets should have used the pick elsewhere. Slauson is stronger and has better instincts.
Ducasse destined for backup duty only.
yeah but I guess they didn't know what they had in Slaus
But still I think the wiser move is groom him early instead of draft O line next year or in 2 years when you need it bad. Lets be honest when are the Jets without an elite O Line? Sure every team has needs but I don’t believe they passed on a glaring weakness to draft Vlad most likely knowing he will need some work to get up to NFL speed.
.
If you remember what the Jets said about Vlad around draft day (not word for word), the Jets were shocked he was still there in the 2nd round. They even thought real hard about taking him in the 1st until Wilson fell (still don’t get how Wilson was still there) to them.
"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama
way too early to call him a bust
Ducasse is just what they thought he’d be – a physical specimen who needed lots of coaching to play at the NFL level, but with tons of upside. In 1 to 2 years he will be a starter, and not just a starter but a dominant lineman once he knows what he’s doing. You can’t coach massive, and strong and quick – you can coach technique.
Well since we have him, maybe
We really should invest time into making him the Right Tackle of the future. I mean, we all know he’s quite the physical specimen and he has the potential to be a fine Tackle. I wonder what Bill Callahan thinks.
