Rex Says Expect Two Fullbacks

Manish Mehta says expect to see the Jets to have an extra lead blocker on the team this year.

Rex says #Jets are keeping 2 fullbacks: Conner and Richarshon. "I'd be shocked if those 2 weren't on opening day roster"

That's the right move in my book. Conner is clearly the future, but there's no reason to jettison Richardson and the leadership he brings to the locker room. Conner will be better with a year learning his position from a legend. He can pull his weight on special teams as a blocker in the mean time.

Great to hear, Connor has landed in a perfect situation this year having T-Rich to learn from. T-Rich is obviously not just a teacher as he is still an elite blocker in my books and we all saw his leadership.

A FB that runs the ball?

How long has it been since we’ve seen a fullback be a featured back – or at least take a decent number of carries. Seems like they are just blockers these days.

I’d love to see Conners used to batter the OL and LBs and soften them up for Greene who is a beast in his own right. Finish them off with LT when they are back on their heels.

I remember in 2008 against Seattle where we handed the ball off to T-Rich a fair few times and he did a hell of a job.

I always thought Peyton Hillis had a chance to be that good, the way he ran the ball on us in 2008. Anyways there are a few FB hybrids that have/could run as featured backs, Mike Anderson, Brian Leonhard, Jason Snelling, McClain. But no one was the complete package that Allstott was, he could, run, block, and catch.

Unfortunately he’s just on the wrong team at the wrong time. We won’t carry 3 FB’s and with T-Rich being the great vet, Connor being the great drafted rook. Davis will likely be playing somewhere else because I doubt we can store him on our practise squad, sure a few teams are looking for a good young FB

A shame about Davis....

Agree with umohan21. I uinderstand that there’s not room for him with Richardson & Connor the likely roster spots, but next year Richardson will be retired and Connor is potential injury bait with the way he makes contact.

Next year at this time Davis will be in his second year with another team, and we may be rueing a short-sighted decision.

There will be other FB’s available, don’t get me wrong Davis is a decent player, but he is no all star, remember he is on his 5th team in 5 years. Is he good? absolutely, is he worth losing any sleep over? not at all. We’ll find another guy, just like Davis on Waivers and store him on the practise squad just in case we need him.

I wonder if Conner is going to play some ST this year

I can’t see him getting onto the field with the offense much if T-Rich is on the team. It does seem a bit strange to carry two fullbacks, but I guess they aren’t willing to lose T-Rich and it’s not like they would be able to get Conner thru to the practice squad. I just wonder who is going to lose a spot over this, probably a ST teams guy, which is why I wonder if Conner is going to get onto the field for some kicks or punts.
