Mangold, not Revis, Close to a New Deal
I hate getting information from PFT, but this is too huge. The Jets are close to signing Mangold, not Revis, according to sources. PFT reports:
The progress is being made, we're told by multiple sources, between the Jets and center Nick Mangold.
Maybe they're using the crazy suggestion I had a few weeks earlier to get Revis into camp. We'll just have to wait and see.

I have to commend your FO on this....
This is the way it should be done….

Absolutely. I was starting to get uneasy about the team not making an effort to take care of their own, since so many players have been spouting off about unfulfilled contract promises. This is great news, and could not happen to a more deserving player.

Wouldn’t have a single complaint if this were true. Rewarding the player that came to work sends a good message IMO

As I said in my post earlier about getting Mangold done, it could get Revis into camp, or it could make a bad thing worse. Either way, Mangold deserves his money.

Aw man
I was excited. Now if PFT is saying it’s close, we know they’re nowhere near a deal.

Could they both be right?
Maybe the Revis deal is done, but theyre not announcing it until Wednesday. Now theyre getting Mangold done and will maybe even announce it before they announce Revis.
We'll see
Cowlishaw’s sticking to his guns that he’s right about Revis.

Mangold and Revis signing the same week would be a great occasion for this franchise. Lets hope so.

He’s represented by BTI Sports Advisors. Not sure who within that agency directly represents him, but it has to be either:

If this is true.
Good for the Jets for putting the priority on the player who performed at the top of the league for more than one year. Revis’ year was ungodly. But I have always thought that a player only had the right to a better contract if he out performed it for more than just one year.
And if both deals got worked out, then very well done by the FO. But Mangold should have his chance to stand in the spotlight before anyone else. Including Revis.

I am happy Mangold is getting done he deserves it. And I prefer the way he handled it over Revis, but to imply Revis only played well or at a high level last year is false. He made the Pro Bowl the year before as well. And had a very good rookie year with over 87 tkls, 13 ast, 1 sk, 1 ff and 3 ints and 2 tds allowed to TO and Braylon. His rookie numbers were all better than his Second year where he went to the pro bowl except ints,(5).
I did'nt say he didnt play well.
I said he consistantly outperformed his contract. Im aware of Revis’ yearly stats. His perfomances have been stellar. But in my opinion Nick Mangold played like the best center in the league for at least the past 3 seasons. Nick Mangold is reportedly about to be paid as the top center in the league because he has played like it in consecutive seasons of his rookie contract with poise and patience. In my opinion that is worth rewarding without question.
Revis has already earned 15 million dollars of a rookie contract in which he is only in the middle of and has already held out for in the first place. In my opinion his performances in comparason to his contract, UNTILL THIS PAST YEAR, do not warrant the thought that he has consistantly outperformed his contract year after year. At least not in the way that Nick Mangold has. Nick has VASTLY out performed a contract that had only this year earned him, thru performance incentives, a worth while bonus of over 3 million dollars. His other yearly payouts were paltry at best when compared to his body of work.
Im not one to discount anything that Revis has done in his past years. I am just trying trying to point out the stark contrast between two players past perfomances and their attitude to this team when you compare the way in which they are being rewarded by this team. In my opinion, Revis should have suited up and put together another season like he had last year and then, If the Jets show no sign of rewarding his efforts on the field, then he did more than enough to warrant the actions he is displaying at the present moment. I just think he jumped the gun a year too early.
Sorry for the confusion. I have a tough time getting my point across in short posts. It usually takes me way to long to say what I mean clearly.

That did clear up your point. As many can tell I am a Revis fanatic and hate when it is said he has only had one good year. You are right, he has had only last year at the top of CBs. In fairness to him Tanny brought all this up by stating they would be open to it, I just don’t think he thought Revis and his agent would act like idiots.

I agree 100%
Mike T has a huge fault in the mess. And I share your feelings on Revis all the way. He has a great body of work so far. The problem just seems to be snowballing as the days go on. The phrase “cooler heads will prevail” does not apply very well when nobody is thinking with a cool head.

Whether Mike T said he would address it or not, I find it near impossible to believe that Revis is not still holding out right now. Mike T tried to do what’s right, just couldn’t find that middle ground. Until now……hopefully.

I find it difficult to believe the fact they should try for a new contract dawned on Team Revis only because Tannenbaum said they would revisit it. The way these guys seem to operate, they would be demanding a new deal no matter what.
