Rex Responds to Tony Dungy
Rex Ryan addressed criticism from Tony Dungy on his swearing during Hard Knocks today.
"I've been a big admirer of Tony Dungy, and I'm sure a lot of people are, but he unfairly judged me, and that was disappointing to me," said Ryan, who dropped at least 10 F-bombs in last week's debut of HBO's "Hard Knocks."
This is a nonstory to me that gives some media talking heads something to discuss. Tony Dungy is a good man and a great coach. Everybody in the league seems to love him. He has his own style that worked for him. He's entitled to his opinion.
Rex has a different style. He seems to do pretty well getting through to his players that way.

Well said John
All what matters is how the players respond to the style of their coach. Some players love the Tony Dungy style of coaching and some love the Rex Ryan style.

No problem with Dungy having an opinion...
Howevere wanting to get the commisioner involved was a bit much. There I think he crosses the line whereas he is imposing his way of life on others. Me personally I very rarely curse (ironically it usally happens when I talk to dol-fans lol), however just because I don’t do it I don’t feel I have the right to make someone else like me.

I don't have a problem with him having an opinion either...
I also don’t have a problem portraying him as a whiner for it.
The NFL is a modern day gladiator arena used to push advertisements for beer while scantily dressed girls dance about and cheer for the various teams. Trash talk is a fundamental part of the culture.
I don’t think Rex’s F-bombs are going to impact the “image” of the NFL. In fact, his attitude and his language are part of the reason the Jets are the featured team this year.
He may have been a great coach but he also appears to be a holier-than-thou jack off. His statement about Ryan pretty much sums up why the Colts finally dethroned New England as my most hated team last year.
I have a lot of respect for Tony Dungy, but if he thinks he’s the rule when it comes to NFL coaches rather than the exception, than he’s delusional. I’m sure they all curse just as badly as Rex does. However, I think when he talks about the NFL stepping in, I’m sure he doesn’t mean that Ryan should get in trouble, I’m sure he means they should talk to HBO about bleeping the foul language.

Screw Tony Dungy
He has been put on this pedestal by the league. Most of it has been deserved. But nobody seems to remember that he failed his son when his son needed him. He can’t get his son back. He needs to look in the mirror too. I’m not saying that his son’s suicide was his fault. But good parents need to be aware off the challenges their children are facing. Suicides just don’t happen. Almost all of the time, teens are sending signals hoping someone will pick them up and help them get the attention they need.
Rex seems to have pretty healthy children and he is very much involved with them.
Rex, you don’t need to apologize to anyone and you certainly don’t need Tony Dungy’s endorsement. The nerve of Dungy to go to the NFL asking Roger to look into Rex’s foul mouth. That is an absolute joke. TG needs to mind his own business and keep Michael Vick on the straight and narrow.
This whole non-issue has caused me to lose all of the respect I had for TG.. Shut up Dungy!
Out of line man.
You have no idea what the circumstances were around his son’s death and you have absolutely no business talking about it. Have some class.
Wow.
Classy. You’re pretty much a piece of crap. I really hope other Jets fans don’t feel such uncalled for aggression over such a non-issue.
If you actually listened to the interview you’d realize that Tony said what he said AFTER quotes from Rex’s mom were brought up and his tone was more lighthearted than it was accusatory. And even if he said that Rex was the worst coach on the planet that doesn’t excuse you bringing up the man’s deceased son. Seriously. You are so inappropriate it is beyond comprehension.

Dude...are you serious? You're comparing "language issues" with the death of his son and it being His fault somehow?
Do you even know the circumstances behind that? WOW.
Out of bounds....
The comments about Tony Dungy and Rex are fair game (although I don’t agree with Dungy). But the comments about Dungy and his son’s demise are reprehensible.
A parent can never stop trying, but there’s no evidence that Dungy did. Sometimes there’s onl;y so much a parent can do, and the offspring needs to find his or her own way.
We have no right to be so callously judgmental.

Promotion?
I must have missed Dungy’s promotion. He has NEVER been or GM or an owner, so why would he even discuss hiring a Head Coach? In his current position, if he pouted and asked really nicely, NBC might possibly let him hire a makeup person or a gopher. The moral of the story is watch your language makeup people and gophers cause Reverend Tony’s listenting!
