According to news reports:
While Darrelle Revis continues his holdout with the New York Jets in hopes of a new contract befitting a player many think is the best cornerback in the NFL, Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha is working on taking that title back, the two-time Pro Bowl defensive back is getting his freedom and will roam the field covering opponents' top receiver no matter where he lines up. This is the same freedom Revis is given.
Could this open a path to a contract for where both sides save face. Could the Jets give Revis a guaranteed contract in the neighborhood of what they are willing to offer, with the conditional stipulation, that if at the end of the season a designated respected neutral third party, such as pro football focus or football outsider, rates Revis #1 CB, he would receive a retroactive bonus which would make him the highest paid at that position (by $1) for the year. Since it was a condition outside his control, this bonus I believe would not count toward the salary cap. I be live both sides could live with this.
