What To Pay Attention To During Jets Preseason
We've been so entangled with the Revis drama that no one has yet to mention anything about our Preseason debut! As we all know the Jets are gonna be going head to head with the Giants in a Preseason battle for New York on Monday and the deprivation of Jet football will come to a end. War of the Words has commenced and trash talk is being thrown around as we speak! The thought of this had me itching all over so I came here to share a few first looks that I will be giving my utmost attention to.
First Look At Joe McKnight
When most people hear McKnight's name they think vomit or fragile but lets cut the guy some slack. He's quick, very agile, speedy and he wants to improve which is always good. Its no secret that everyone's been questioning every aspect of his game and he's definitely aware of it. Before I give my final judgment on whether or not he can succeed in the NFL I'll have to see him play some games first and he'll get his chance soon to prove his worth. If he screws up my faith in him will be tarnished.
First Look At Mark Brunell
Who even knew he was still active!? I forgot about Brunell until the Jets brought him up as a possible backup. He may be old but I'm all for it, anything is better then Kellen Clemens and his bounce passes, enough is enough. I can't wait to see Brunell throw, he's a old timer going against the toughest defense in football at practice and it should help him. If he looks good and keeps it consistent I wouldn't be against benching Sanchez if he plays really bad early in the season. Yeah I said it.
Vernon Gholston At DE
I was stunned when I heard Gholston was getting a chance at DE. Why? Why are we giving him another chance? Does Rex want to try him at his college position to see if he can get it together? Are we letting him show what he has to lure teams in for a trade? At first I was against playing him but he'll be limited and if he unlocks his potential it would be great. He's definitely a physical specimen and it would be a shame to waste a man beast like Gholston and not give him one last shot. He's the only guy in camp to beat Brick on the end and get to Sanchez. He's actually done it twice, things could be going good for Vernon.
Ducasse vs. Slauson
Check out this Clash of the Titans going on here. Word is, as of right now Matt Slauson is in the lead for the starter role but the Preseason will dictate the winner in the end. Vladimir Ducasse was scouted as raw with major upside as he develops with time. Right now, I would feel more comfortable with Slauson getting the gig only because he's proved himself already. He isn't a questionable rookie as Ducasse is. Slauson fought in the trenches last year when we needed him most and starting him will make me feel a lot safer. The final verdict cannot be decided until after the Preseason of course, so I'm curious to see how this battle plays out and in who's favor.
First Look At Kyle Wilson
As a reference to the sleeping man above, people seem to sleep on Wilson for some reason. We got a steal, Rex's brother Bob Ryan of the Cleveland Browns wanted to draft Wilson instead of Joe Haden but was overruled. He basically fell right into our lap. QB's will pick on him since he's a rook and I'm expecting a pick from Wilson this preseason. I'm hoping we get him in on punt/kick returns as well. I'm anxious to see what he'll do with his shiftiness against NFL talent. He's our 1st round pick, we're supposed to have high expectations and a guy that has this much confidence in himself should live up to them.
First Look At John Connor
The Terminator! This "no neck" phenom is a animal. Anyone familiar with the premier of Hard Knocks knows that Rex deserves all the credit for drafting Connor. He smashes people, what more can you want from your Full Back? When Bart Scott starts to take notice and offers a challenge you know this kid must be impressive. Tony Richardson is on the end of his career and we have his replacement right here. Best case scenario, Richardson can teach him the in's and out's and develop him into a nice young talent. Can't wait to see him stick it to some linebackers and D-line men.
There's plenty more new guys in green and white that I'm looking forward to watching but I wanted to focus on the men we'll see most on the field during the preseason. Lets see what they can do.

I'm looking forward to a new island being discovered...WILSON ISLAND!
I have absolutely no interest in watching Gholston embarrass himself any longer. McKnight is the 3rd RB, I’m not expecting much from him unless it’s in the return game or someone gets hurt. I’m interested in the LG battle, but it’s not at the top of my list. Like to see what Conner can do after glowing reports from training camp, but I’m fine with him learning under TRich who is still one of the best. Mark Brunell? Really? I’d be surprised if he even makes the roster. What tops my list, especially in light of the Revis situation, is what Kyle Wilson can do to ease my fear of the Jets lacking a shutdown corner. Lots of hype surrounding him as a first rounder, now it’s time to put up or shut up. I really don’t put a lot of stock into the preseason though, so I’m much more interested to see him be lights out when it actually counts.
I thought it was more like...
Revis thought he was alone on the island until he found….
Wilson

If gholston shows up this year it’ll be like having two first round draft picks. Lots of positive stories about him during camp so far. Would be great if in the end he turns out to have had more of an impact than taylor. As a football fan you had to love seeing the moose in dallas or rathman with the 49ers. so im looking forward to see the terminator in action. As far as special teams, id rather they just take a knee. i dont want anyone getting hurt especially wilson ala jason sehorn.
UNDFA
In the second half, I am going to look at TE Jeff Cumberland, I saw this guy in Cortland and he is faster, and is quicker out of his breaks than Keller, I can’t believe he wasn’t drafted. Donavan Warren has a great shot as a cover safety, looking at Satele as a SAM LB and as an Inside LB, he is coming off I believe an ankle sprain. Finally looking at Larry Taylor as a slot receiver and as a return guy, I think he makes the 53
