Darrelle Revis Saga Update -- 'Looking like a holdout'
Per ESPN New York's Rich Cimini in this Tweet:
If you're coming to Cortland Mon for first practice, hoping to see Darrelle Revis, you could be disappointed. Looking like a holdout.
I try not to report on little Tweets such as these, things that we haven't seen reported on or confirmed elsewhere. However, it certainly seems logical that a holdout could be in the works. Let's look at the events that have transpired in the last 36 hours.
Darrelle Revis Weekend Timeline:
- Friday PM --- Reports citing Revis' camp supposedly met with Jets' team officials.
- Saturday early afternoon --- Reports citing any talks that had happened, were now over.
- Saturday evening - Cimini sends this Tweet about Revis possibly holding out.
Still, let's keep in mind Revis doesn't have a ton of bargaining chips, being that he will be fined $16,000 for each day he holds out --- which is stated in his contract.
Opinion:
First off, this is pure speculation, and I hope I'm wrong.
However, in my opinion, it seems as if Revis met with team officials sometime in the 24-hour period between Friday and Saturday, no deal was reached, and Revis now plans to hold out. While we don't know for sure, it's safe to say the Jets were looking to offer a band aid or short-term extension, while Revis' camp was looking for a long-term deal, as David reported yesterday.
I hope to see him out there on Monday, but after the events that have taken place, I'm not too sure.
What do you think, GGN?

tough situation
One the one hand almost all these hold out situations solve themselves before the season starts. On the other hand he is the best, the only corner in the league that can’t be replaced with an equal product, and he knows it.
I don't even know it.
Maybe he is better then Nnamdi. Maybe he isn’t. Maybe he is a good product who became elite as a product of Rex Ryan’s defense. Maybe not. Point is, you can’t just out perform the best guy in the league one time and say you are the best. Nnamdi has been doing it longer, Revis has to prove himself for more then 1 season before getting record breaking contracts. He should go hang out with LeBron James.
I just hate this crap.
He’s soooo broke, quick lets get him some money before his family starves.
Curtis "my favorite" Martin - 1 of the best!
I really want him to be there
But I get the sense that his idiot agent is going to get him to hold out

He may, but
He will be in by 8/12. From what I understand, if he holds out after that date he loses a year of free agency.
The so-called talks.
Mike T.: Hey, is Revis coming or not.
Agent: Nope.

I've tried to email Revis, but it just shuts down my computer.
So trade the man to Oakland, (or other really bad team) get a bunch of high draft picks and wish him luck.

Lets not forget that Hard Knocks definitely has a role in all of this.
The Jets will use the show to its every advantage. What better oppotunity is there for national exposure of the Jets brand over an extended period of time? Its an incredible marketing opportunity. Why not milk it and manipulate it for all its worth?
He will not get a deal for at least the first week of camp. This will set the stage for the drama and create a very compelling story-line to hook everybody back in. This is THE story for Jets camp and you better use it to your advantage while you can.
Once the stage and hook has been set, you sell Rex Ryan. He is the show. He’s compelling and polarizing. You either love him or you LOVE to hate him. He will drive the show and lead us into the other stories that will make us fall in love with the team.
But make no mistake, we will get at least 2 shows out of the Revis saga. The Jets will make sure of that.
The team doesn’t have any creative control over that though. So NFL Films could either make a big deal of it, or simply mention it in passing. They’ll try to find Revis if he does hold out though.

Of course not, but you saw how they made a big deal about that rookie OL from the Bengals last year. I must admit that a big part of the reason why a watched last year was to find out what the deal was with that situation. With Revis, you get the same effect times 10. And you have the same Mickey Mouse representation involved.
But common sensically, how could Hard Knocks not address the Revis contract scenario? Its impossible to avoid.
They will address it, but
I doubt anybody tunes it to find out about that. Fuck Revis, let him hold out. Let him watch us have the number 1 defense again, without him, and with Kyle Wilson and Cromartie doing his job for him. I’m tuning in too watch Bart Scott, LT, Jason Taylor, Rex, Sanchie, Woody, Jenks, etc. I don’t give a shit about big baby Revis. If he shows up he shows up, if not, fuck him.
Its easy to be the tough guy when your ass isnt on the line. But i don’t trust Cro or Wilson locked up on the opponent’s number 1 all game. That dramatically changes the defense and nobody knows how much worse it will be without him. Its a risky proposition to go into the season without him. Especially with the beginning of the season being as tough as it is.
the team is not going to play games with its star player and risk its super bowl odds to create drama on hard knocks
Of course they are. If they can sign him now, why couldn’t they before? Why wait? Hmmm. If they can’t sign him, then he won’t be here.
Neither side wants to risk the negative perception that will could be created if unable to reach a deal. Both sides are in cahoots on this thing. If not, we would have heard something more clearly about Revis’ hold out. Revis’ camp would have tried to get out ahead of this thing a little bit to curb negative publicity. But since both sides a relatively quiet, i think theyre both working together to get out the Jets brand.
At some point, Team comes first
F_ _ _ Darelle Revis-either show up and play, or go to hell. You signed a contract—you are part of a Team. Suddenly it is all about ME—typical of the disgraceful ESPNification of Sports that now exists.
You know what—as a Jet fan for life—I am sick and tired of this crap going on for months. Go ahead, Revis—hold out as long as you want. We can be a solid Team without you, and we can just move on and focus on the Team—not on you—selfish, sorry ass that you are becoming.
Maybe after you hold out for a month—we can trade you to the Raiders. Then—since you missed Training Camp—you can go out and get injured.
Again—GO TO HELL, REVIS! You are trying to spoil everything that is great and special about OUR Jets Team. If you don’t want to be part of the greatness that is The New York Jets, then we don’t want you and we don’t need you!

Its always about the MONEY
I am sorry, but I MUST say what is on my mind. I am a Soldier stationed at Fort Bliss Texas been in for 22 years and I am from Brooklyn, NY and a die hard New York Jets fan ONLY I have been thru the bad times and the really BADDDDD times. And now we are on the door steps of greatness and before we have a chance to prove our selves we are in turmoil with PLAYERS thinking they are bigger and greater than the GAME. Please Mr. Revis we have not done anything as yet but with your continued help we can be a power house as like the New England punks, whom as much as I HATE them, have set the example of TEAM first like the 49ers of old. I beg you not to strong arm the owners and play hard and have a wonderful season, ending with a Super Bowl victory and you will be able to set the market value for your position. Remember, the Jets have been the door mats of the NFL for years and this is OUR chance to salute pass players and New York FANS.
