Revis Contract Saga Update: A Deal Could Be on the Horizon

NYDN and Manish Mehta is reporting the Revis camp has recently been talking to the Jets' organization.

Per NYDN:

The parties spoke in the last 24 hours for the first time since before mini-camp to try to find a solution for the All-Pro cornerback’s contract impasse.

The two will probably be looking for some middle-ground and a short-term fix, most likely in the form of some guaranteed money --- although Revis' camp will be looking to have the superstar CB locked up for a long-term deal with big money involved.

Remember, Revis is due to make only $1 million in 2010, the fourth year of his six-year rookie contract.

Opinion:

Was having a discussion on Twitter last night with some Jets fans, discussing this tweet from Revis' manager, GeigerGeiger's twitter:

Laying off twitter for a couple days, hope everything works out!

From that tweet we discerned that there was a good chance a Revis deal was in the works before training camp was to begin, and sure enough, BOOM.

D'Brickashaw Ferguson got paid...... Rex and Mike T. got paid....... with veterans to report to training camp in Cortland in just 48 hours, will Darrelle Revis be next? An end to this whole impasse seems imminent.

Just hope they can find some middle ground, don’t see how paying Revis almost 17 million is good for fielding a competitive team.

I’m sure we won’t do that….it;s probably a look back to the camp to say “have you realized we have to reasonable yet?….if so, lets talk”.

Yeah I hope so, I think 12 or 13 is more then fair for both sides. The Jets can just bump up the guarenteed money a little. If the Jets top NA’s deal, imo it will open pandora’s box. All future deals with the core guys will work backwards from the Revis deal. It helps that Brick signed a reasonable deal but we all will know soon enough.
