Sanchez Makes SI's 'Fortunate 50' List

Sports Illustrated compiled their seventh-annual "Fortunate 50" list. Jets' QB Mark Sanchez, despite his young age, managed to make the list.

Sanchez ranked 48th, and was cited for receiving $16.46 million in football earnings and $500,000 in endorsements.

Patriots DT Vince Wilfork also made the list and was ranked 38th, receiving $18.9 million in football earnings and $75,000 in endorsements.

As far as SI's critieron for making the list?

To compile the list, SI explained it used "salaries, winnings and bonus figures from players' associations, tour records, agents and news reports" from the most recently completed season and "endorsement estimates from Burns Entertainment & Sports Marketing, other sports-marketing executives and analysts and agents."

The top 5 athletes to make the list should surprise no one:

  1. Tiger Woods --- $90.5M

  2. Phil Mickelson --- $61.66M

  3. Floyd Mayweather Jr. --- $60.25M

  4. Lebron James ---- $45.78M

  5. Alex Rodriguez ---- $37.0M

Oh and, it should be noted...... Tom Brady did not make the list!

Wow shocking Brady is not on there. I would fire my agent if I was him.

I like how Mark didn’t take the big money the first year with an already overwhelming load. I know its not that uncommon but seems like that would be hard to do.

Is Brady going to be in camp?

Not caught up with all the rumors as to just how upset he is.

Brady’s contract was frontloaded with most of the money having already been paid in previous salaries and bonuses. It’s not unusual for the annual earnings of NFL players to wildly fluctuate year-to-year. I don’t know why he would fire his agent for doing that; better to get the money early in the contract than later, so you can invest it and make more money off of it – and also not worry about potentially never seeing those dollars due to an injury.

FAIL FAIL FAIL

Peyton got a huge signing bonus in 04 (34.5 million) and he is still in the top 10. Hey If I am Tom Brady and I am suppost to be the second best QB in the league and I am not next to or around Peyton Manning’s name (not even Eli) thats a FAIL I want a new agent.

By the way is this only counting Americans?

I didn’t look through the whole list but I went through the top 20 and I didn’t see David Beckham anywhere… I thought he makes more money than everyone (maybe not including Tiger)?

Well yeah good point was Rodger Federer on there?
