Ring of Honor?
Hello Jets fans, lifelong Giants fan here wondering if you can shed a little light on the new "Ring of Honor" the Jets are doing. I read an article on both the New York Times, and YahooSports websites listing the players who will be receiving this fine accolade (Joe Namath and Curtis Martin among other former Jet greats), but neither went into detail as to what this Ring of Honor will actually be.
No offense to Jet fans, but I really hope I'm not going to be looking at big green banners of Weeb Ewbank, Winston Hill, and Joe Klecko inside the New Meadowlands Stadium while I'm watching the Giants trounce the Cowboys. The same way I'm sure you wouldn't want to see banners of Taylor, Simms, Strahan, etc, etc while you're beating up on the Pats.
Does anyone now what or where this Ring of Honor will exactly be?

I think that’s a fair question, tito, and no offense taken. The Ring of Honor will be in both end zones during Jets games only. It’s something that Jets fan have been looking forward to since we’ve never actually owned a stadium before, even as a shared ownership.
You may also be interested to know that there are reports that the Giants will have a similar type of tribute. They are probably delaying the announcement so it doesn’t coincide with the Jets news.

I've tried to email Revis, but it just shuts down my computer.
Thanks for the info dvdvil, much appreciated.
Me and some of the guys over at BBV were actually discussing something along these lines a couple of days ago, for the Giants that is.
There’s been a little discussion about how Strahan’s number might not be retired, for fear that we might soon run out of numbers for active players to use. For him not to be honored in anyway would obviously be a travesty, so something like a “Ring of Honor” would clear up the numbers for current players, while still honoring the old dogs of the past.
Definitely a great idea by the Jets, and something I hope you’re right about when you say the Giants are looking into doing it as well.

Yeah, the Giants already have a lot of retired numbers. I think they have the most in the league, so it would definitely help them to have a ring of honor. They most likely will have it, but the two teams just don’t like to have the same types of announcements come up at the same time.

I wouldn’t have any problem looking at Lawrence Taylor’s name on a ring, as long as it lists his impending prison sentence right next to his number 56. As for Strahan, I always liked him. But he should only have half of his name on a banner, because his ex-wife got the other half. And judging from recent play, I suspect you won’t have to worry about any banners that are there while the Gints are trouncing the Cowboys for another several seasons at least.
I respect that Lawrence Taylor was a great football player
Just a lousy human being, though. And as I said, I actually liked Strahan as a player and as a commentator. But his ex-wife did take him to the cleaners in his divorce.
