A Nightmare
What happens if the following is the thought process implanted in Revis by his agent. "I am Revis, and I believe I am the best CB in football. It is a sign of respect to pay a man what he is worth. What you sow is what you reap. You pay me less then 10% of the already set 15 million market value for the second best CB, I play at less then 10% of the effort put forth by me in order to be the best CB in football last year. Because I was disrespected, and the anxiety it caused, I get a lot of headaches and am dizzy much of the time. For one Million, I am not going to expose my body and my family to any danger. The next 2 years thereafter I will play my best for my guaranteed 20 million, and then I will test the free market, hoping Al Davis sees my real value." This is the ultimate nightmare for all Jet Fans.

Whatever man
If he wants to hamstring a franchise by demanding that much money then let him go. I’m sure he’ll enjoy playing for a perennial 4-12 team.
This ^^^^
I totally agree Ex… If he wants to be paid Al Davis Money, I say we trade him there. Let him see what a team looks like when one player is retardedly overpaid.

You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference.

Just cause Al Davis over paid NA doesn’t mean we should follow suit, Radiers have not been the model franchise over the last several years. NA got stupid crazy money cause otherwise he woldn’t play for them, they are terrible. You can’t be paying non QBs that kind of money and expect to have a competive team IMO.
Since the face been revealed the game got real
Him and his reps need to realize that one player alone can’t win a title. If he wants to be paid the highest salary and his team stink then that’s up to him, but he won’t get it with the Jets where winning is important. He needs to take a reasonable packet and not demand to be paid NA money. We still have other important players we need to lock up, I’d think maintaing a nucleus of players capable of competing each year (while still getting paid $10+ million per) is more important than getting $17-18 million per and us not being able to keep a great group of players together.
Just one thing, if he starts to dog it (and I really don’t believe he ever would) he would lose every bargaining chip he has left.

I just don't understand...
Why he can’t be reasonable, and get paid… let’s say…. 11.75mm a year… Let’s say that. WHAT’S WRONG WITH $11,750,000 A YEAR??! You’ll be VERY well paid, not armeggedon the team, and still be one of the best NFL CBs the game has ever seen? I just don’t understand why he needs to be paid more than someone else knowing that THIS particular someone else is not THE BAR, but rather an Idiot throwing money around. When Nnamdi gets cut next year, thats when this whole thing will get dumbed down. Hopefully by then, Revis will have a new agent and a new mindset, take the $11.75mm/year and rock out.

Pay the man his fuckin money
he aint hamstringing no one, I wouldn’t worry about woody johnson not having enough money
It’s not about Woody Johnson not having the money, it’s about the NFL having a cap (and it will come back after this year), we can’t be short sighted…that’s how you end up with a rubbish team for a decade.

True...but they must find a way to make him happy along with the other three
Mangold
Harris
Ferguson (check)
AT ALL COSTS
True but if they just give Revis what he wants, they can’t pay everyone else. If they give him what he wants, then the others are going to ask for crazy money deals. It sets a very bad precedent. Nobody is trying to hamstring Revis here, if anything it seems like Revis is trying to hamstring the team.

they know they are not the best in the league at the position with the acception of mangold. You want to be the highest paid at the position if you are the best and by all means you should be.
I believe Ferguson was low-balled, but it still saves the team some money to secure the other three.
I think Mangold needs to be paid a lot of money also and Harris can be dealt with next season. So far he has not said one word about his contract this year so the Jets will be able to wait and see with him
You can’t go out giving crazy money, you get the respect of your position on the field not by being the highest paid player there is. We have a lot of money tied up and giving Revis a blank cheque is no way to run the team. Revis needs to be reasonable and giving him NA money is not reasonable. I’m glad the Jets are standing by logic and not slapping stupid money down in front of him. If he wants to make a meal of it, and cause problems then he can go…it always has and always will be Team >>>>>>>>>> Player

Revis is a team player
most of this has been way blown out of proportion by his agent opening up his big mouth.
You have to pay a guy what he is worth, plain and simple…If you are the best, you should be paid higher than the second best
If you were CEO of a company, would you be happy making what a secratary makes even though a company can be looked at as a team? Probably not.
Revis deserves the money!!!
I am pretty sure if the Jets were to cut Revis or let him walk over money you would write an article throwing a shit fit over what is wrong with the Jets Front Office, Mike T, and Woody.
Everyone knows he deserves the money and he would be very foolish to hold out because even he has said that he has nothing to hold against the Jets in a contract dispute
Now it just seems like we are arguing whether or not he deserves the money which he does.
That’s crazy thinking…it’s illogical. If a company (that has a history of doing bad business) pays it’s top employee way over the odds which sets a precedent for other employees, that company is going to continue to be a bad company. A rival company is not going to look at the poor structure of the first company and say
“we have a better employee so although it’s over the odds and puts the whole company in financial limbo, and although the company we are copying has been one of the worst companies in the business over the last few years…..we’re going to copy it anyway just because they set the benchmark for what should be a competitive wage”
That’s ending one way….in liquidation.
Revis deserves to get a competitive salary which puts him amongst the best in the game. He doesn’t deserve to get paid stupid money because Al Davis and his illogical brain decided to dish it out to one of their players. Since when were the Raiders setting market values at non premium positions.
It makes absolutely zero sense to give Revis $17-$18 million per season…Zero sense!! luckily it seems Mike T understands this.

I agree with you 100% that the Raiders have no business sense
I also whole heartedly believe Revis will end up signing a contract with 10-12million per year being the final number, that has yet to be offered to him.
Yes, my analogy is a bit crazy to think about, but it is very close to what has been going on thus far.
Paying a CEO
If I were a CEO I would be smart enough to realize someone over payed for someone and not expect it. A board member has a obligation to not overpay and cripple a company by paying employees more than they are worth
True
most CEO’s would realize it as the JETS have, but they are low-balling the man.
As I said to David_Wyatt:
“I also whole heartedly believe Revis will end up signing a contract with 10-12million per year being the final number, that has yet to be offered to him”
I’m not saying pay the man rediculous amounts of money, but let’s be reasonable and not put an offer with no guarunteed money in front of the league’s best defensive player
I would bet my house that the offer to Revis had guaranteed money in the same way that Brick’s contract does. It’s not FULLY guaranteed money, but it’s pretty much about as guaranteed as it can get. Brick’s gonna get a huge chunk of money if he’s still on the team by the end of next season. I seriously doubt he’s going to get cut any time before that. Same would apply to Revis I would bet if he had signed that reported contract offer.
And the thing is that in order to get the contract to actually be allowed under the 30% rule, the contract basically HAS to be structured that way. Check out this article that explains Brick’s contract: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/under-cap/2010/under-cap-cash-budgets
True His contract needs to be structured in that way
but there was definately a way they could have offered him a decent amount more guarunteed money on the first offer.
I’m sure there was some guarunteed money, but probably not enough and it was probably a slap in the face
JetsKid... no disrespect but....
This is one of the worst examples I’ve ever seen.
Revis deserves the money…. no one disagrees with that point. Matter of fact, we stand by it.
He wants to be paid NA money, thats where the rift starts. NA money is DUMB Money by a DUMB Organization. It was DUMB! They don’t have a team… they’ve got an Overpayed individual who makes plays on a lousy team, end of story. You are basically saying that we should pay Revis more than Nnamdi. Nah son, that would be illogical. We are trying to create a team that is formidable for years to come….. not make a great player happy. Makes no sense at all. Like I said… 12mm a year… fine, I’ll take that to the bank. Lets all start thinking logical now, please. This convo is complete nonsense.

You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference.
Read my response to "the yooper" above, I would say the same thing to you
Overall, I am not saying pay him more than Nnamdi, I am saying show him the respect of being the best defensive player in the league.
People are taking it to the extreme and saying things like “let him go” or “see how he likes playing for a 4-12 team” and that is what is bugging me and prompted my origional post because that is rediculous
Okay...
I understand that’s bugging you, but whats bugging us is the Jets were willing to pay him, and pay him well. It wasn’t Nnamdi money, but who the hell is going to pay Nnamdi money? All I’m saying is, he is not going to get 15mm per year, thats just ludicrous.
But in defense of Revis, I doubt it’s the money per year he’s worried about… he wants that GUARANTEED paper. Because he’s one of the best (or the best) I’d say he should be getting about $30-40mm guaranteed. Now if the Jets are not coughing up the guaranteed paper, then I’d have to take Revis’ side on this one.
GANG GREEN ALL DAY!
You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference.
That's exactly what I've been getting at
the problem is they have yet to show him that much guarunteed money…sure, he could have made all sorts of money with the contract they offered him, but there was no or little guarunteed money in it and I see that as a slap in the face.
That just proves what both of us just said
okay.... I hear you...
But put it this way… if he wanted $30mm, and they were only willing to give $25mm at this time…. he’d be a numnut for not taking it. Especially since no one is going to cut him from the team ANYTIME soon. He’ll get the $100mm that the Jets were offering. I just hate contract disputes. Too much money is never enough for some people.

Like anyone cares about woody’s money. It is the salary cap, if they could spend 200million then Revis would get what e wants but they can’t there is a cap.
Since the face been revealed the game got real
LOL No but that would be pretty bold though
No I was trying to agree with dave, but I didn’t post the +1 with the comment.
Since the face been revealed the game got real
With no cap this year a team could very easily front load a contract and make future cap numbers reasonable. That is if they truly like and respect the player. Downfall is: injury risks and a player coming back for a renegotiation when the salary drops in the latter years of the contract or the Albert Haynsworth “I got my money” effect.

Revis signed a CONTRACT to play for so many years for X amount of money. Revis should MAN up and live up to the CONTRACT HE agreed to.
Its that simple. If not.. bench the punk ass. The real sad thing is he wants to be paid the highest amount for a CB.. he wants to be the highest paid (insert vulger term) on the block which will only last a season untill some other CB demands to be paid slightly more then Revis.
Its not just Revis.. I am a Phins fan and look at Dansby, he was the highest paid ILB for like a month then Patrick Willis signed a new contract with the 49ers that made him the highest paid ILB in the NFL (if im not mistaken)
All these guys who want their paycheck to be the most so they can use it as a status symbol need to be sent packing. They have ZERO love or respect for the game they play.

Revis will never see the light of day when it comes to Free Agency....
Just as Manning, Brady, Brees, and other stud players at different positions would never see Free Agency.
So there I was.....asleep when it happened.....the buzzing of the blackberry woke me up....still groggy, I rubbed my eyes, and read the incoming email.
BRANDON MARSHALL IS A DOLPHIN!
Then I had a beer....took the day off work, and bought a box of condoms.
Its going to be a long night for my wife.
That scenario would never happen, because if Revis dogged it for a season to try and preserve himself, he would no longer be considered one of the best corners. This is really the reason his agents are advising him to demand the money now; the odds of him having a season as dominant as last year’s are extremely low, and they know it. Think about how many players have led the league in rushing yds, passing TD’s, sacks, int’s, receptions, etc. Then think about how many of them do it two years in a row…
