Weatherford Excited With New Additions

It's not often during a season, a beat writer will go to the punter for some words of wisdom However during the off-season everyone heads home to their own communities, and the local papers pounce on the opportunity to get a few words.

Next Saturday Weatherford will be heading home to Terre Haute Indiana to put on a free football camp for local school players from grades 9-12. It will be completely free, organized and run by Steve Weatherford with the help of a few other NFL players; including Jets Marquice Cole and Eric Ainge.

He spoke yesterday with the Terre Haute based paper the Trib Star about the Jets, the moves they have made, and how he views the upcoming season:

"We’ve got so many [past and current] Pro Bowlers now … it’s really exciting," Weatherford noted. "This is the first time in the five years I’ve been in the NFL that I’ve really looked forward to training camp. I love my coach. Rex Ryan is the best coach I’ve had as far as being really good to the players. The guys on the team have a lot of respect for him.

"You look at us on paper. We’ve got the No. 1-rated defense in the NFL. But you flip over to the offense, with Mark Sanchez developing as a quarterback, and we’re pretty scary there too."

An interview doesn't seem to be complete these days without asking questions about new Jet, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Weatherford kept the praise train running:

"He’s a great guy," Weatherford stressed. "I think he’s more excited about this season than anybody else is. He thinks he’s really got something to prove… I’m really fired up to see what he’s going to do this year."

Click on the name of the paper above to read the rest of the article. A great piece that goes on to talk about several things including; Weatherford having to compete for his job, his thoughts of the AFC Championship loss to the Colts and how he's feeling physically among other things.
