Gruden Visits Florham Park
Former head coach and ESPN analyst Jon Gruden spent three days at the Jets facility last week, according to reports.
GM Mike Tannenbaum brought the former Bucs head coach in to observe practices and speak with coaches and players, looking for a different set of eyes to put things into perspective.
As the Jets look to build on last year's success and attempt to win a championship in 2010-11, it certainly can't hurt to bring in a head coach who has done just that.
Gruden was the winning-est coach in Bucs history (60-57), and coached them to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII.
It should be noted that Gruden is still contractually obligated to ESPN after he signed a mult-iyear extension with the network in 2009. According to the source, there was no front-office talk about a position being offered as a coach or with management: just an opinion.

Because offering a guy who has won a superbowl with one of the leauge’s most-losing franchises is a bad decision……
John Gruden is the man.

He did it with a team built by Dungy and against his former team that fell apart before the big game, not much there. If he was a good coach he would not have ended up the way he did, collecting QBs trying to figure out what to do. Granted that ownership was holding back the team but still he could have maybe done something more than nosedive the team back into the trash heap.
Jets green since 1997
Gruden is annoying
Idc if he won
I have more confidence in rex

I think people are looking at this wrong
The report said he wasn’t there for a job. It’s just strange that people are responding like he was there to move into a coaching position. As an observer/advisor it’s a great thing that the FO has brought in another set of eyes to point point out what we are doing right and wrong. It’s like anything…the more experience you have around to speak on certain situations the better your chances of improving on your deficiencies. When they had dinner with “Magic” Johnson it was the same thing…they were seeking out experience in winning and trying to tap into what things need to be done to make us champions. I don’t think Gruden was the best guy to tap for the experience…there were other former Super Bowl winning HCs that I feel were better…Dungy, Cowher, or even Billick. I don’t know if those guys would have made themselves available but I would rather have seen one of those names over Gruden.

It almost reminds me of the arguments about bringing in a Veteran QB Backup. That suddenly the team and the fans are just going to give up on Sanchez because a Vet Backup is there.
It’s pretty obvious why Gruden was brought around, and it has nothing to do with replacing Rex or anyone on his staff. People seem to be ignoring that he’s still under contract to ESPN.
The Islanders went from Marty McInnis and a 2nd Overall pick to Jesse Joensuu.
Maybe it was Tanny's way of getting positive Jet comments from the media
when they make their championship run. If Gruden gets on the Rex is amazing bandwagon the media image of the Jets will only become stronger.
