Revis’ agent is named Schwartz? Uh oh. Matter of fact, wasn’t he a major holdout the year he got drafted, and didn’t sign until the week before opening day or something? I remember them going back and forth forever about whether the deal was 5 or 6 years.
Exactly
The moment I saw that line in the list of stories, I was like [Scooby-Doo voice] “ruh roh”

Honestly,
I hope Revis gets as much $$ as he can. Tannendeuche has created alot of bad will with players. Many players have been quoted in papers as saying they have oral agreements only to get stuck later. Kendall was the 1st miscalc. He was cheap coach for line, when he was gone Faneca became a more expensive option to serve the same purpose. Finally a player has him at a disadvantage. Revis has so much value to team Tannenbaum will have to re-negotiate and I hope he gets alot. If Revis goes it will be a terrible mistake attributed to Tannebaum. This guy is so overrated. Gets credit for draft picks others scouted; to be fair has made some good deals, but all in all creates lots of bad will with players. Its ok with marginal players but he has been doing this with key players. Don’t offer oral deals if you always plan on renegging…it just makes you insincere and players unwilling to trust mgmt.

While I can’t disagree that Tanny has a tendency to lowball players, and I can’t say I’m entirely comfortable with his “loyal to no one but the stat line” mentality, calling Tannenbaum overrated is a little much. I think he’s earned the right to sidestep most criticism for a little why. The guy has positively built this team.
Have a look at Don Banks’ article at SI if you want a recap of just some of the many things he’s accomplished as our GM.

Okay,
overrated may have been strong…my rage getting better of me. I have been a fan of most off season moves (most pretty low risk high reward setups that don’t cost team much)except for Leon Washington move which I believe was a huge mistake. Still, Tannenbaum does tend to negotiate egotistically. I could see him forcing Revis to holdout (and Revis should if that happens). Revis will have to do this because of Tannenbaum’s prior examples….just not the best way to deal with a YOUNG talent who may be the best defensive player on your team. Sometimes you gotta pay your best players and renegotiate contracts, my fear is tannenbaum might screw this up.

Some good points here LateHit. I think it’s pretty low for Revis to be threatening a holdout with two years left on his deal. I just hate when guys start up with that crap. But with so many accusations about the Jets screwing players over, there is obviously some merit to it. Tannenbaum has been freakin’ lights out when it comes to drafts and getting us the FA’s to fill holes, and I love the aggressive “whatever it takes to win” mantra this guy brings to the team. But the way some of our vets have been treated this offseason is deplorable IMO. And it’s apparently fostering an every man for himself attitude amongst the players. No wonder so many are questioning this team’s ability to maintain chemistry. Cohesive teams have players taking paycuts to allow for more cap room and more money to improve. Teams with no cohesiveness have players who all say, “Pay ME!”
