NFL Draft Day Three Discussion Thread

This is a thread for those of us diehards who got up early on Saturday morning to see how the end of the Draft unfolds. There are still a lot of really good players on the board as we get set to begin the fourth round. Perhaps Mike will move up, but there may be no need. The Jets stayed put in the first two rounds and wound up with excellent players.

Leave your thoughts below.

Me either, his tech is too sloppy to start right away, unless Callahan works night and day with him for the next few months

Is there any shot he re-works his contract and comes back?

If he does it would send a powerful message to the rest of the team. Here’s a HOFer, 9-time Pro Bowler, Superbowl champion taking a pay cut to be part of this.

Thought VG was not a bad player, had a good work ethic, attitude was fine, had some issues but thought we could coach him up……learn from your mistakes.

Griffen has the same issues, but he also has a horrible attitude and work ethic, not a chance I would touch him. And 32 teams have already passed on him 3 times, that speaks volumes. Apparently his interviews were terrible, completely arrogant.

All the rookie corners get burned on a double-move at least once. Lucky for him though most teams don’t have time to pull that shit with us. We’re on the QB too fast.

by Crackback on Apr 24, 2010 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions

You're right...

but they did say that Wilson is a HUGE GAMBLER. He consistently baits that QB in hopes of recovering for an interception. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, hence him getting beat deep.

*As of right now he is too small and can’t hold the point.
*He won’t command a double team

VG isn’t a bust. I believe this kid will be good playing in his proper position. This dude will be better on the line, end of story. And I wouldn’t call anyone a bust if your first season was playing under a bogus coach like Mangini. Thee was nothing genius about that dude, hated that name peeps gave him.

Give him this year before calling him a bust. I won’t believe it until this year is over and he still has no sacks.

Unless we make another trade, maybe Clowny and somebody else, this draft is over for the Jets. Dont know how or why we traded away the seventh. Is really a WTF moment. But in Rex and Mike T I trust so let it be.

Seventh is a garbage pick, but I think we should have gotten more for Leon

by Judgegavel on Apr 24, 2010 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought we would have gotten more too, but better to get something than nothing.

by random122 on Apr 24, 2010 12:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Could have gotten a kicker, Punter or DL in the seventh. Not exactly garbage

Just as likely to get one from the players not drafted

The seventh is pretty much your choice of an UDFA.

The Jets picked so low, they can sign the guy they would have picked anyway.

No one wants Clowney. Brad Smith is the only option. Cant believe we didnt pick Arthur Jones or Cam Thomas. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! draft strategy after the 2nd round.

We'll address Kicker...

undrafted.

You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference.

Rex and Tanny have really changed the attitude around here...

In a Defensive Draft full of ends tackles and pass rushers, we took 3 OFF players and a corner. If this happened in the past there wouldn’t be a ledge big enough to hold all of us! Lets go J-E-T-S!!

Well I mean we did have the best defense in the league last year. It’s not like we were that desperate for help.

Watson Thomas still there, man I thought they’d go 3rd even 2nd

by Judgegavel on Apr 24, 2010 12:32 PM EDT reply actions

Time to start searching for the next Chrebet, (UDFA stud). Are there ever any defensive players that have been solid to good that went undrafted and signed as a UDFA?

by george JETson on Apr 24, 2010 12:35 PM EDT reply actions

Suggs I believe was indrafted

Suggs was a first rounder, but Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard were both undrafted.

In such a deep draft your supposed to trade down and gain more picks. we did the exact opposite. Now if this was a weaker draft clas, fine trade up, but not when there is so much talent still left on the board like Cam Thomas or Arthur jones.

Tanny’s philosophy will always be, “Quality over Quantity”. You have to judge our draft picks on their value in correlation to where they were picked.

by george JETson on Apr 24, 2010 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I also think it was not so much completely deep, but top heavy, there are a couple of exceptions left, but there always are. I don’t think the sixth or seventh this year is any better than last, but the second third and fourth certainly was.

5th rnd value

We got S Holmes for our 5th. Seattle got LW coming off a gruesome leg break!

by george JETson on Apr 24, 2010 12:40 PM EDT reply actions

I think Leon was better value than some of the others though, or at least close, White, Groves, Ginn. We certainly stole Holmes in comparison.

by Judgegavel on Apr 24, 2010 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

True. If he comes back at 80% of his former self it is still better than the other trades. I wouldn’t have traded a 5th grader for Ginn no less a 5th rounder! (Maybe its just hate for his 3 plays against us!)

by george JETson on Apr 24, 2010 12:51 PM EDT reply actions

Oh I think the Phins gave up on him way to soon, he was the one receiver they needed to keep (even if it was mostly on potential) when they got Marshall. And its not like he was that bad, considering he had Pennington most of his career who did not have the arm strength to take advantage of his speed.
