Did Mike Get It Right?
It's time for you to sound off. Did Mike Tannenbaum make the right pick when selecting Kyle Wilson? Should he have addressed the pass rush? How about the defensive line or offense? I'm not going to include trading down as an option because everybody would pick that. I get the feeling the Jets would have done that had their been suitors for pick 29.

I agree with dvdivil above
But I would’ve like to see them trade down to the early 2nd. SOOOOO Much talent is still available
Well, we were all way off base so nobody can say I told you so...
But mabye it’s bc many pundits had this guy as the #1 overall and complete cover corner in the draft. I can’t believe this kid fell to us. Especially since the Pats reached on another corner that was ranked lower than Wilson 2 picks prior. Getting this kid helps the entire defense get better. QB accuarcy is going to have to be perfect against the Jets from now on. Teams can’t possibly think that they will have the time for 5 step drops with the quality corners we now have. I love this pick. When you have the chance to make the whole defense better, you take it and say thank you. But when you have the chance to address the major problem that killed you in your last loss in the playoffs with the best complete corner in the draft, you get on your knees and thank the god you pray to.

This might be another war room story
I have a feeling this pick was one where Tannenbaum probably had a chance to trade back with someone and Joey Clinksales and Terry Bradway were like “duuuuuuuuuuuuude we can’t pass him up!”, hence using up all their time before making the pick.
I really didn’t think that Wilson would fall all the way to us, and I was kinda hoping that this situation didn’t happen (I’m convinced that if he wasn’t there we probably would have traded back or picked Hughes or Kindle and it would have been a pretty easy decision). but now that it did I couldn’t be happier about it.
Now What?
Where do we go from here? there is so many players we’ve all talked about available in the 2nd round but we are way back at #61. The freakin Pats have three picks before we get our first one and the Fins have one as well…………………….UGHHHHHH! We need to trade up to get at least one of the guys on our list.
I honestly never gave Wilson a whole lot of thought...
Didn’t think he would fall anywhere near us. But now that we have him, I think it was a shrewd move. Looking back over the scouting reports and highlights, he very well could be the best CB of the draft. We got a steal. Now we have a heck of a secondary and there’s still so much talent left. Hopefully we can find a way to get into round 3.
As soon as I started hearing the talk about him being a top 10 pick, I turned my mind away from him. Obviously something happen, maybe it was because of where he played, maybe his interviews were not that good. Who cares though right, we got the 2nd best corner in this draft at #29, and he’s probably the best cover corner, Haden best overall with more play making ability, but Wilson is probably the best cover guy

Now I know
why the Steelers are working on their running game. No one is going to want to pass on you guys.
How do I break it to the cat that since he has been declawed, the rabbit he sees in our backyard would kick his sorry butt?

Pretty good actually
I admit at one point I really didn’t believe we would take him but he fill a serious need and everything I have been reading about him has been very positive.
We did need to fix our line if we are going to run the ball more.
I am waiting to see if we get a RB today or tomorrow because I really think we will need two studs at RB in addition to a 3rd down back if we are going to be successful. This would hold true even if we had Ben for the entire season.

I had Iupati going to you guys
but yeah would be nice to see the traditional Steeler teams running, running, and running some more. Well just not against us of course. lol
We need to get ahead of the Pats in the 2nd round
They are going to take Jason Worilds with their first 2nd round pick. I can feel it. He’s going to be brilliant as a 3-4 OLB, and I will be SO PISSED if we don’t get him. I’m trying to think of what we can do to get him though and it really seems tough. I think it’d have to include Leon and picks to the Eagles (their first 2nd rounder is right in front of the Pats’ first 2nd rounder, right?).
you think they'd take
Worlids over Kindle?
...you're a jet all the way.

No Worilds grades out as a late second rounder, I can see him even slipping to the third if the Jets don’t take him.
Of course, but...
I doubt it, there are also still a ton of OLBs on the board, if anything that was one of the biggest positions to slip. Just by sheer numbers if we stay where we are we may get him or someone very close with regards to talent.
That's true.
It was weird to see that almost no OLBs were taken in the first round. There was who, Sean Weatherspoon and that’s about it right?
They don't count
They went to the Colts and Eagles, respectively, who are both 4-3 teams and they’re definitely gonna be playing DE there.
However
As far as the OLBs left, I think the only one who’d go in front of Worilds is Kindle, and there were already like 4 or 5 teams that were slated to pick him in the first that decided to go elsewhere with their picks. Maybe it’s not OLBs in general that are slipping, just HIM specifically. And the Pats already reached a bit for McCourty, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them reach a bit again for Worilds. Which I would haaaaaaaate.
I would happy with those guys too. Just Worilds is my guy. He’s a Jersey guy too, which means nothing but is kinda cool.
Oh I like Worilds the best as well...
just don’t think its worth it to jump up much to get him. Well I guess it depends, I would not want to give up the fourth rounder, only because I think we are fine if we walk away from this draft without an OLB pick, but we must at some point take a decent OL, and DL, just for depth, giving up the fourth would leave us with just a 6 and 7 and pretty short.
The only players I would want to see them trade up for now would probably be Cody, or Mays.
This was easily the best pick at 29
no way did I think Wilson would drop, he was simply the best player for us, and we got unbelievable value here. The only other alternative I would have like to see was trading up for Iupati if we were dealing Faneca. But honestly that may have been better long term, but keeping Faneca here is probably better for this year.
As for OLB, I just don’t get the obsession here. If we took Hughes or Kindle he would be no better than fourth on the depth chart, and there is a ton of depth at the position in this draft. Wilson steps in as a starter in the nickel and a huge upgrade, no other position/pick would have made as much of an immediate impact. Even now if we go on needs I think OL, DL and Safety are all way more important than OLB. If we take an OLB in the second it would only be because the player value is so high. If we trade up I think it would more likely be for a safety (Mays or Allen) or one of the two top guards left, or even Cody. I think Worilds (or someone comparable, like Misi) is there when we pick. OLB may be the glamourous pick but I just think its much lower on are needs list than the popular opinion here.
rex
They say Rex loves his corners. The guys on espn after the pick jokingly said looks like Rex might send 8 on a blitz. They liked the pick. In a passing league they say you cant have enough corners. Imagine sending 7 on a blitz knowing you got coverage. Even wondering if its coming might pysc some teams.
Thats why I love the possibility of Mays now...
yes he may be a total failure as a true free safety, but imagine putting him in a package now where you dont know if he’s dropping back or blitzing with that speed/size.
I agree. Keep him at SS and let him roam the box and he can have a real impact with the way we’re constituted right now.
although...
I think the should look if they could get Roy Williams from the Bengals cheap, he would be perfect for that role as well, and probably cost a lot less.
I would really like to see us get Taylor Mays. The guy just looks to knock receivers heads off when they come across the middle. The biggest knock on him is his coverage skills. When you could potentially have a 3 corner set for the next 5 years of Revis, Cromartie and Wilson you don’t need a ball hawk at safety. You need a guy who makes receivers cringe when they beat the corner in coverage knowing they are about to get their head ripped off. The phsycology of that leads to dropped passes. We could have the opportunity to have our secondary set for the next 5-8 years by addressing safety. I have a feeling Cromartie is going to be a stud next year and will be on this team for a while. The NFL has fully gone to a passing league – and 3 and sometimes 4 receiver sets are becoming the norm (at least with the top teams). If you can take away the passing game – our front line can stop the run. I wouldn’t want to be an offensive coordinator game planning for this defense next year.
mays in a heartbeat....but....
if they trade clemens for some reason….do we take the Colt as a backup??? Can’t imagine losing a our QB in mid December and going into the playoffs with Ainge…Hate the Pats but they did know that have Brady to back up what’s Bledsoe was necessary…
I see 26 people who voted for Taylor Mays
That’s 26 people who need to be open-hand slapped across the face.
We are gonna shock them with 5,000 mega watts of raw ROO POWER.

We need to trade up and I think it will include Leon to draft a good OLB. Knowing that Pats and Fins they will grab who we want. If we lose Leon that means we will need another back, prefereably a big/speed back (Tate, Gerhart, Hargesty)
