Mike Westhoff Will Love Kyle Wilson Too

The Jets did not really get much out of their punt return game in 2009. Jim Leonhard and Jerricho Cotchery did not show much of an ability to make people miss or hit the corner. In Kyle Wilson the Jets did not only land a top notch nickel. They landed an excellent punt returner with good speed and vision.

He returned 3 punts for touchdowns in his career at Boise and averaged over 13 yards per return in his junior season. The Jets have added a number of playmakers with the football. Now Wilson gives them a dynamic threat on punt returns. Even when Leon Washington was making a name for himself as a returner, he was mainly doing damage on kickoffs. Wilson will add an extra dimension.

Check out highlights here.

We only have 1 punt return TD under Westhoff, so hopefully Wilson can add to that.

As a returner I like McCourtey over Wilson

As a corner I feel we got the best corner of the two.

Loving the pick!

And Crackback, you do know Leon is signed?

Yes. And he’ll be traded by the end of the weekend, IMO.

I love this pick. I had a strong feeling the pick was going to be a CB, but I had no clue Kyle Wilson would still be around. This is a big steal. Leon is staying right where he is.

Ok. I have been up all night looking at depth charts...

At his highest point Kyle Wilson at a few times was ranked over Haden. Very seldomely, but it is there. Most have him as the close second in the strongest CB class in 4-5 years. At 29, this kid seems like a bargain. But as the 3rd CB off the board after the Pats pick a kid who NFL.com has as 4th behind Wilson AND Kareem Jackson?? What the Hell were the pats thinking? They had this kid pegged as their guy from the word go. They traded back twice from 22 to 27 knowing he would still be there… That team never hits on their 1st rounders. Why???

I like the pick

But wish we could have gotten Odrick. 6’5 300+ lbs. I sure hope this guy is not the next Julius Peppers or something. I know its crazy talk, but wow and the phins fans, didnt even want the guy, seems a lot of them are just happy to stick it to us.

The other thing though is this will be real interesting considering NE didnt take Kyle but grabbed Mccourty.

Leon is one of the best in the biz at returning kicks but nothing special returning punts aswell as leonard, j-co and b-smith. There all solid punt returners but nothing great while i think Kyle wilson can be a great punt returner. Westy is so happy he’s hitting people in the street with his cane.

I think this pick shows that the Jets realize to win a championship in tissue NFL you need to have at least 3 star corners. The upper echelon teams all have at least 3 legit receiving options. If we had that third corner last year maybe the second half of afc champ game turns out differently.

We have the defense to make them punt, and now we have the returner who can score on them. Nice!

Don't be surpised if...

The Jets next pick is Taylor Mays…… So Rex like. and he’s fast

by J*E*T*S* on Apr 23, 2010 10:36 AM EDT reply actions

its funny – in yesterdays mocks Mays was dropping to very late 2nd round. In Kiper’s latest mock – he’s going top 5 in Round 2…..Do we have the ammo to trade up?

Adding Mays to the secondary would be unreal.
