Friday Night Open Thread

Another interesting week in the NFL.

Much to our dismay... Feely is out, Folk is in.

Tomorrow the NCAA Final Four takes place. MSU/Butler @ 6:07 PM EST and Duke/WVU @ 8:47 PM EST.

Joey Porter is no longer having charges pressed against him for 'DUI' & 'Assault on A Police Officer' because the arresting officer is currently under investigation facing 'Brutality' charges. Hmm...

Cowboys Recently released Flozell Adams and S Ken Hamlin. Would personally be shocked if the 35-year-old vet went anywhere, as dirty of a player as he is and as long as he's been in the league (maybe Oakland will take him, lol) ... but regarding Hamlin --- would he have been a better choice for the Jets than Brodney Pool?

Stuck in working on a paper I have due tomorrow. argh.

Just seeing if anyone else is around. A lot of other places on SBN do the “open” threads, sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

By how stupid the Mets are being. But that isn’t for this site. So instead I’ll ask, what would it have taken to keep Feely in NY? I never heard anything about even showing him a contract or any numbers… Did the Jets want him gone?

Lol, poor Mets. I don’t have a problem talking about their trials and tribulations tonight. Never gets old.

Just looking at their rotation to start the year will turn a stomach.

Regarding Feely

I honestly have no idea, and no one really does.

That was one of the things Rex was very “hush-hush” about during this offseason. Even the beat writers were left in the dark, as the only things they were told to them, were a couple of quick quotes from Tanny during a few press conferences.

The things that I did read, were along the lines of “We’re happy Nick has joined our team, and we also think Jay is a great kicker and hope it works out with him here in NY.”

Just speculating here… I think this decision was made a long time ago when Folk was signed. And once Kerry Rhodes, his roommate last year in training camp went to Arizona, that sealed it. Also, Feely was vacationing with family for awhile in Hawaii and seemed to love it. The warm weather won him over!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I hate Mike Tannenbaum. He’s too much about the money side of the game and working the cap and not enough of the talent side. No reason not to sign Feely and sign Folk instead. Sure, if the Jets weren’t a team trying for the Super Bowl, save a few pennies and sign Folk. But if your going to contend, you need a real kicker. Feely may not have the biggest leg, but there’s no price you can put on Clutch.

+1 for Feely, I think this is a bigger loss than people make it out to be...

look at what happened to Kaeding, Graham, and Rackers in the post season while Feely was clutch. Folk looks very inconsistent.

in Fairness, Kaeding is a pro bowl kicker and Rackers is highly regarded.

Hell, if the Chargers cut Kaeding I wouldn’t be against us bringing him in.

Agreed, but thats just my point...

He may not have a pro-bowl leg but Feely demonstrated that when push came to shove he was the best kicker in the playoffs and can perform under pressure. Let us not forget how he stepped in a punted (quite well) for a game, how many kickers could have done that.

I knew someone was going to bring this up.

Admittedly he was beyond his range on the two misses. And his Range was never impressive.

But he didn’t lose us the Colts game (Shohn Greene getting hurt put the nail in the coffin)

Your not going to find a bigger fan of Jay than me, and wasn’t saying he lost us the game. At the same time you can’t ignore the stats, and like it or not he was 33% in that Championship game.

Okay, so Feely didn’t choke during the previous week, but choked in the AFC Championship game?

I mean I understand Feely’s gone and we have to live with it, but considering right now it looks like Folk is going to be the guy, it’s an obvious downgrade. Unless Rex figures that pinning the other team deeper in their own zone is worth more then making FG kicks, then I can understand the plan.

Maybe the hope is that the offense improves so much we won’t need to get to within 30-40 yards and just be happy to kick. Or that we score a lot more defensive TDs.
