Jason Taylor Makes No Decision

Jason Taylor won't be signing with the Jets today.

Jason Taylor's agent says his client won't make a decision about whether or not to join the New York Jets until mid-week at the earliest.

"It's not even about a contract," Gary Wichard told ESPNNewYork.com. "It's about Jason making the decision with his wife to move up to New York and play. When that's decided he'll have an opportunity to move forward in one direction or another."

I can understand that. In a lot of cases, it's easy to forget these guys are human. Yes, they are making millions of dollars, but changing teams involves uprooting one's family.

Yep, especially with kids involved, he has his charity in the community down here. It’s a massive decision, it’s not all about football. Like the Seymour trade last year, he didn’t immediately go, and everyone was writing about how he didn’t want to go, and had no intention of turning up etc….when he got there, he just said, look this is a big decision, I had to sort out schools for my kids, had to get my wife on board etc…… As long as he makes his decision before the draft, I don’t think it matters whether it is today, tomorrow or Friday.

It doesn’t really seem like Miami wants him back.

Yeah, I heard that as well.

As for us, we don’t know what the hell is going on either. Most of us want the Phins to resign JT to keep a veteran presence in the LBs and to help teach the younger guys like Wake and Anderson. We have no idea of why they haven’t already resigned him unless they are trying to do a smokescreen to mask who they are looking at in the draft. Regardless, it’s frustrating for many of us who want them to resign JT and keep him in a Phins uniform.

It seems like a strange way to handle a franchise legend like JT. Maybe he waits until after the draft, at which point I think most Jets fans would accept he has no interest in playing here. It won’t cost a lot, and he still gives production, so not sure why your not signing him, seems like a very strange scenario. I think most Jets fans now have the approach “if it happens, it happens, if it doesn’t, no big loss”. Hoping a decision comes this week, just so we know where we stand draft wise.

Believe me, I know what you mean.

I don’t know why they would handle the situation this way, like you said, he is a franchise legend. He showed how much he wanted to be back in Miami last year with taking that low salary, he really would love to finish his career on the Dolphins. I mean, there is talk about them signing Zach Thomas to a 1 day contract so he can retire a Dolphin, and he is about as much of a franchise legend as JT is. I just don’t know why they won’t make a deal to keep him here. It’s not like we don’t have room for both JT and a rookie we draft.

its not about his family

he can rent or roomate he doesnt have to relocate his family for a season or 2, we dont want him and he knows it !!!

by CRUZ144 on Apr 11, 2010 6:32 PM EDT reply actions

Ha I don’t think it is as simple as that, you can’t ask a man to be without his family for 10 months of the year, and he is a 34 year old man, not a 18 year old kid, he doesn’t want to be living out of a hotel like atmosphere. It’s all in the same deal, if he moves, on a two year contract probably his family will need to come with him.

Whatever his reasons for delaying the decision may be, it’s clear that we’re first in line, so he can take all the time he likes. The Pats aren’t pursuing and the Fins will sit on their hands until after the draft. We’ve got this.

Absolutely right. JT might as well say, “Hey Miami! Look, somebody else wants me! Can I please have a new deal now?”

by nationalist88 on Apr 12, 2010 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Of course he is saying that, this guy loves Miami, his family is there, he is settled, and he has enjoyed his hall of fame career there, but the days go by, he doesn’t here, he will realize that if he wants to win a ring then he needs to sign here. Let’s not jump on him at any given chance because he is taking his time, and giving the team he has played for practically all his life a chance to come in at the last minute. I know we might not like it, but let’s be reasonable, it’s completely understandable.

Yeah, his family is a big factor in his decision.

Plus, he’s also very involved in the community down in Miami, which probably also factors into the decision.

Yer I read about his charity work he does within the community, and he will obviously want to keep that going. I don’t blame him in the slightest for just holding tough for a few days, and waiting for you guys to come in. These guys are human, I know that If I were in the same situation, I wouldn’t want to uproot my family, take the kids out of school unless I had to, and I sure wouldn’t want to be away from them for 8-10 months. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I seem to be in the minority when I say that I will welcome him with open arms if he joins, he said some bad things, but it was all part of a cartoon like beef, and despite that, he is a good human being, and good for the team.

Lol man I really hope you guys don't sign him.

Lol I had that same debate whit one of our dumb fans he didn’t understand that JT is definitely a father and husband before being an NFL player. He has to think about family before anything, whether it’s uprooting them or moving away for a couple of seasons (and being away from your wife and kids for any amount of time is taxing on a family)and he even has to think about how he is going to provide for them.

btw

Congrats on signing Santonio Holmes…. even though he’s facing a 4 game Drug suspension, whoever negotiated that did a fantastic job.

A Fifth round pick? Holy crap…. Thats a steal, and I am not a Holmes fan.

As much as I hate to say it…you guys are putting together a good squad over there. Now if only you can get a QB…unless Sanchez improves, I’m not sold on him (of course, you guys probably aren’t sold on Henne either)

If this post contains no substance, just assume that my answer is Brandon Marshall. Pay the 1st and 3rd, get the proven guy, and don't worry about that position for the next decade.

Ever have that dream, where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you? Why am I the only one that has that dream.

My Gorgeous

Facebook friend, Michelle Beisner, has said Santonio Holmes is now a Jet. I have to give you guys credit for being brash in making these types of moves. It’s apparent Rex Ryan wants to do all he can to cast his shadow upon the NFL. He’s here to stay, that’s for sure!

by JoeBloe169 on Apr 12, 2010 5:36 AM EDT reply actions

Vontae’s a great player, but we’ve also got Braylon who might drop a few but he’ll make you pay on others… And let’s not forget about Cotchery in the slot. Good luck stopping all of them :P

by Exystence on Apr 12, 2010 8:57 AM EDT up reply actions

No doubt, it will be tough.

With Holmes, Edwards, and Cotchery our guys will have to be on their toes. We’re really happy with the way Smith and Davis progressed last year, and we have high hopes that having a years experience will help them out quite a bit. Unfortunately, they will be going up against some veteran guys with more experience than them. We’re really hoping that the Phins FO decides to trade up to draft Berry on draft day to really help out the secondary. I think that if Smith and Davis had a competent FS helping them out they would be a lot better than they were with Gibril Wilson.

Either way, you guys are going to be a tough team to beat this year. I just hope that we have your guys’ number again like we did last year. =P
