The Jets Can't Sign Both Jason Taylor and Mark Brunell
...because of the final eight rules as Cimini reminds us.
The only way to sign Taylor and QB Mark Brunell would be to lose another UFA, and it doesn't appear that DE Marques Douglas, LS James Dearth or LB Larry Izzo is close to signing anywhere. Douglas probably will land somewhere after the draft.
I'd still like to see Douglas back and certainly would prefer him to Brunell. A starting defensive lineman who is excellent against the run is more valuable than a backup quarterback whose best days were a decade ago.

It Brunell is really set on becoming a Jet
Can he and MikeT at least talk, and agree to wait until that date? < (Is that legal?)
I mean, I wouldn’t lose sleep if the Jets didn’t end up with him. But he would be a good mentor for Sanchize.
Um seriously why would this even be a debate, Brunell is a washed up back-up we don't really need
I mean I wouldn’t hate if we signed him down the road as a back-up if we lose Clemens, but his skills are gone, I don’t even think he should be #2 (I rather see Ainge, from an ability stand point). The one thing he brings is his experience and would be a nice tutor for Mark, but thats really it.
I thought Larry Izzo was retiring?
Not too bothered about Brunell to be honest, we should definitely sign Douglas back up, Dearth’s snapping wasn’t on point as consistently last year as he has been previously, but he is still very decent, but we brought on Tanner Purdum earlier this off-season a long snapper, so we may be willing to let him go.

Which begs the question...
WHY DID WE TENDER CLEMENS!!! Obviously if they are bringing in Brunell for a look, they are worried about the backup situation. If they hadn’t tendered Clemens, they could have already used his leaving as UFA to sign someone. Realistically no one is giving up a 2nd round pick for Clemens, at most maybe a 6th or 7th. If they are going to hold him for trade bait I hope they at least get some interesting deal at the draft.
Mauldin Played for Columbus a few years ago, He has six career games.
That's pretty much what I'm predicting
I’m pretty sure the thought process was something like “Nobody’s gonna pick him up for the 3rd round tender he’s got, so he’ll stay with the team and we can use him as last-minute trade bait to move around in the draft.”
i have a feeling clemens is gonna end up with the raiders, cuz i heard a rumer last night that we might be trading up to the raiders 1st round pick
I’m assuming that this would happen if somehow Eric Berry drops that far…? Or possibly Gerald McCoy as I’ve seen in some mocks? Seems really unlikely. If neither of those guys fell that far, we’d probably be going for… Rolando McClain? Derrick Morgan? It doesn’t really make any sense at all tbh. Unless we were also going to move Leon Washington, in which case then it’s Spiller.
Morgan?
I hadn’t thought of trading up for him, but I don’t think this is the year to trade up. There aren’t a whole lot of expendable players.

I'm not too sure
Just like at least half the fanbases have developed a scenario where they trade for Nnamdi Asomugha, often based on the idea that “Al Davis is nuts anyway”, just about as many have their scenario where they trade up to draft Eric Berry.
I would take this with a grain of salt unless you have real specific evidence, and we know the Jets front office plays things very very close to its chest.
