Kerry Rhodes Shows Why He Was Traded
Many including myself were critical of the Kerry Rhodes trade. Kerry did his best to make the Jets look smart with a childish rant on the radio today.
Rhodes, who clashed with defensive coaches Mike Pettine and Dennis Thurman, accused the Jets staff of stripping him of a leadership role in favor of the former Ravens players Bart Scott, Jim Leonhard and Marques Douglas brought in by Rex Ryan, calling it "a slap in the face.’’
Right, so the team shouldn't look to upgrade its talent because the millionaire safety is insecure with his spot on the team.
I still don't love the trade. I don't like opening a gaping hole for a midround pick. Plenty of talented guys are difficult to deal with. In any event, Kerry looks totally childish.

I listened to that Michael Kay interview, and by the end of it I thought good riddance, a self indulged tool like Kerry Rhodes, doesn’t even deserve a 4th and 7th round pick, he’s all about Kerry Rhodes, always has been about Kerry Rhodes and always will be about Kerry Rhodes. I was critical of the move at the time, but now, I love it, no room for guys like this on our team, in fact no place for him to be on any TEAM. I just hope we both make the Superbowl, so I can see Shonne Green run over his sorry ass.

Ive hated this guy for a long time now and was debating whether to rant about that interview. I listened to that interview and just laughed out loud. He actually got offended that Rex made leaders out of guys that have played in the system for years. He thought that the system should have been catered to him more because he had been with the Jets for a while. That tells me he thinks he’s on par with Revis. The guy is an absolute joke. And he sucked. Good riddance Kerri. Freakin sissy.
You could definitely here a little bit of jealously in his voice couldn’t you, like his main problem was that he was no longer the main attraction. I think your right, he thought he had a right to be ‘that’ guy, when nobody is ever given that right. He had a problem because we catered to the best interests of the team and not the best interests of Kerry Rhodes. I had always been in the middle ground with him, didn’t like him, didn’t dislike him, but after interview, I’m glad he is leaving.

Seriously. The move makes even more sense after this interview. There goes the benefit of the doubt on that one. Good move, Jets.
Rhodes tweaked Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum for telling him he was the only player he could trade to acquire draft picks.
“I still take that as an excuse,’’ Rhodes said. "You can get picks for anybody. You can get picks for Mark Sanchez if you want them, but he’s still there.”
Really Kerry? Really? I wonder if he would have felt better if Mike T had told him he’s the only player we’re WILLING to trade for just draft picks.
I did LOL at that Sanchez comment, was like what? did he just say that, he really isn’t getting the point is he. He just didn’t like that the spotlight was not on him, his play dropped, this coaching staff is not going to take any BS, doesn’t matter if you have been here 1 year, 2 years, 5 years or 10 years. You earn every second of playing time, you earn every bit of praise, and you earn the respect of your peers and your fans, and to do that takes a work ethic, Kerry wanted it handed to him, and this coaching staff seems to have said, if that’s the case, you can go elsewhere, because we don’t hand anybody anything.

Crack, I hear ya brother. I know me and you were the two biggest Anti-Rhodes guys on the site as it seems. I’ve stayed quiet because he seems to have a big following, but what a dbag.
For the guys that have followed him on Twitter, we all know the real kerry rhodes. He loves himself, he thinks hes the greatest thing since sliced bread, and he never admits his faults. We need guys that are always looking to improve, thats a rex ryan D.
What he said on the Michael Kay show today was disgusting and I’m glad hes gone. I see guys like Ellis playing with a broken hand, I see guys like Jimmy Leonhard playing with a broken figure. THOSE are the guys we want to see out there on Pettine’s unit. CYA kerry

Ive tried to keep quiet on him too, but he just justified everything we’ve been thinking about him all year.
It's the Kerry Show, he's all about himself. Kerry first, Team second.
YESSIR crack. Today the real Rhodes came out, his true colors were exposed. People see it now.
I just hated seeing that guy half-assing it through the majority of the season last year. I see the guys on Pettine’s unit and some of the Vets on our OL playing through pain at about a 30% fitness level. And him with his excuses and reasons and that little wussie “shoulder” hit he used to try put on guys and end up missing the tackle.
I hated that “shoulder”, I hated it as much as Kerry hated the possibility of him ever getting hit hard/hurt. He’s all about

LOL @ the “little wussie shoulder hit.” So true.
Lol it’s so funny because it’s so true, if he is the star, if he gets the attention he will be fine, will be your teams best friend. Take the attention of him and he is like a little child who cowers in the corner in a tantrum, lashing out and usually missing every now and again.

I'm glad this happened though
it confirms what I thought all along, that he never wanted to be here, and that he clashed with coaches. Buh-bye. I loved him up his first 3 years. I gave him the benefit of the doubt in 2008, I thought Mangini playing him 30 yards down field was ruining his production, but he didn’t improve when everybody else did, and he just seemed to Hollywood, which is why I really didn’t want him back. He has talent, no doubt, but I just feel like another guy who is more committed to the system will help us more. Way to show your true colors Kerry.

I’m always happy to admit I’m wrong, and I was completely wrong about him. Defended him for the most part this year, defended him post trade, thought all the problems were exaggerated and it wasn’t an issue. I’m not going to rub it in, I’m just glad because people were starting to get on Mike T a little, which I don’t think is fair, and I am glad people realize what he had to deal with. I’m not here to pat my own back or beat my chest, I’m just glad that I feel the Jets made a good move.
I would always rather be wrong and have the Jets be good. I would have rather been totally wrong about Rhodes and had him come out and shut my ass up next year. Just glad this headache is gone now.

The day Belichick said he was the best safety in football, he wasn’t the same player. He lost his hunger and didn’t work as hard. Maybe that’s why Belichick said it in the first place.

So glad he’s gone.
It sounded like he said it and then regretted it, as he said after “you know I’m not gonna lie”….like man I just told the truth, and I heard it and that makes me sound like a punk.
I think the question was something like:
“Your game picked up after you were benched, was that because you tried harder or because you got more used to the system”
his reply:
“both”

Wow. I mean… wow. I don’t even know what to say to that. Thats just an eye-brow raiser. Thats one of those dumb comments that get you mad at yourself for trying to make sense of it.
What did for me was right before the benching… i heard Rex on Michael Kay and they were talking about him. And Rex was saying one of his coaches (Thurman?) had coached Ronnie Lott and Ed Reed and that Kerri (not a typo) wouldn’t take instruction from the guy. I remeber just being baffled by that. And it made me watch him closer and i saw all the plays he left on the field. then he got benched and i was done with him.
I think I heard that same interview as well, on his Monday segment wasn’t it? and he was saying how everyone else had embraced it or something, having Thurman on the ream.

Not sure when. But yeah, it was an open door for anybody who wanted to take advantage of it. Might even be the same thing dvdvil is talking about below. Or maybe he was just talking about how Revis picks his brain.
I think we can all agree that the impression we get, is that Kerry thought he was above trying to advance himself, and learn from people much smarter, who had been playing and coaching the game much longer

It's just unfortunate.
Rex Ryan really wanted Kerry Rhodes to shine. And early in the season when the beat writers were pointing out Kerry’s lack of production, Rex was excellent in protecting his player. As the season went on, Rex admitted it might have been beneficial for Rhodes to watch more film with Jim Leonhard, as well as talking to his DB coach. When Dennis Thurman first arrived, Darrelle Revis told him, “Coach me.” It took until very late in the season for Kerry to even have a meeting with Thurman. After his last meeting with Kerry, Rex said, “I’m not gonna beg anybody to do anything.” And now he’s gone.

Guess that’s the ‘you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink it’ type analogy. Rex game him what he needed to succeed, he was stubborn, he thought he didn’t need it, and now he is dead to Jets nation. lol just like you would be if you didn’t think you needed water ;-)

How is it that one interview Rhodes does changes the perception of the trade? I was reading the thread when he was traded and MT was being blasted for getting a 4th round pick and a 7th while creating this huge hole.
I can’t really speak for anybody else but i think the perception before was that Kerri was a team guy and the trade was out of left field. Earlier in the season there were rumors about him being a locker room cancer, some strange quotes, and the whole benching incident, but nothing really concrete. Both sides had made comments that they wanted Kerri back. But the interview kind of proves he wasn’t a team guy at all.
I didn't like Kerry because he wasn't playing well,
because of what was a result (in my own opinion) of him not wanting to be here and not wanting to do any dirty work. I liked the trade from the beginning, but that’s because I really was fed up with Rhodes and felt like he couldn’t have declined so much at 27 unless he really just wanted out.
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."

Attitude changes a lot of things, it gives you an inside look into what the coaching staff was dealing with throughout the season. Just looking at it from the trade standpoint, it didn’t look that good. However when he gives an interview saying he wasn’t really working to his best throughout the season, he was upset the linelight was not on him, it makes you think that we were lucky to get what we got from such a selfish player.

Kerry was just as fake as they come. He was putting on a fake smile since Rex came here to whoop his ass into shape and he hated it. And he hated that he was not the #1 guy because Rex loved the ex-ravens and Jimmy Leonhard (as he should, Jimmy is the MAN).
He showed what he REALLY felt about the Jets players and organization, today. So how are fans supposed to know the real person he is off the field or how he really felt until he said so?
GGN Staff Writer

Somebody on sny made a wonderful point
Jim Leonhard doesn’t possess half the talent Rhodes does. He is under sized, he isn’t fast, he isn’t athletic, but he works his ass off in the film room, weight room, and on the field to make himself as good as he possibly can be, and because of that he has made himself into a very good NFL player, and a very good part of our extremely good defense. Fans can see that, and it is a shame to see Rhodes waste so much talent because he is sulking in the corner like a bitch.

I heard Bolden (traded from Arizona to the Ravens) on Mike & Mike yesterday morning. Well known that he and Arizona mgmt didn’t get along, yet he took the high road, even while prodded by Greenberg. “To me, it doesnt work that way. Not to sound arrogant, but I’ve always been the guy that coaches would say, ’OK, you run the defense, you help them get lined up and make plays. It was kind of a slap in the face.”
