Gang Green Nation, I need your help (draft related)

Hello,

Over at Arrowhead Pride we are doing our annual AP Mock Draft. I was lucky enough to pick the Jets.

Having spent all my time on the Chiefs, I have no knowledge of the Jets needs for the upcoming draft.

This is where I need your help.

I know you guys just got Cromartie....way to go. That should shore up your CB's. After looking at your offense the only need I could see would be depth at RB(thanks for Thomas Jones) and depth at WR.

Defense looks like you may need a DE, S, and maybe some depth.

You guys have a really good looking team.

Please help me out by letting me know in the comment section who you think the Jets will draft and what is the biggest position of need.

Thanks again!!

Here is my list of possibilities in the first round, no particular order...

Jerry Hughes
Earl Thomas
Taylor Mays
Jared Odrick
Golden Tate

Most feel like we will probably go either pass rushing OLB, or defensive line depth in Odrick. Mays is possible with Kerry’s departure, but not if a guy like Atogwe or Pool is signed first, and Earl Thomas is possible, but we would have to move up to get him. I wouldn’t even be shocked if the Jets try to make a huge jump into the top 5 for Berry, if Rex thinks he is really the next Ed Reed. In the second round, most like Gerhart or Shipley if available. I would say our main need right now are a FS, pass rushing line backer, slot guy (not necessarily a receiver, but more specifically, Shipley), running back, defensive line. Hope that helps.

You cant have Eric Berry

He is ours….lol jk

I like Hughes as a pass rusher.

A lot of guys at AP are goo goo over Golden Tate.

Thanks for your input!

Hey Matt, first of all congratulations on picking a fantastic team….

You might not get a definitive answer because everyone right now has differing opinions on what we really need. Which really means that it could be best player available. However I think the most common players right now that Jets fans in particular are looking at in the first round, are either DE or OLB. Players like Brandon Graham, Jerry Hughes, or the most popular one Jared Odrick. I think that is really where the attention should sit in the first round. You might want to consider a WR like Golden Tate as well.

If you are going into the second round, and doing a whole draft, then WR and RB are two of the positions that most fans agree we probably will need to address. So players like Gerhart and Shipley and guys like that in the second. Then perhaps a safety in the 4th, maybe another CB.

I would definitely go DE/OLB in the first though……nrmax’s post has just popped up and it’s pretty much identical to this one so there we go lol

Haha, I’m only a Syracuse Basketball fan, but I’m not too big a fan of those birds…..or any other Big East team for that matter.

Awesome

Dont worry….the football team is on the rise just like my Chiefs.

The Jets and Chiefs have so many connections….its crazy. We got Herm from you guys…..we also got Haley and a plethora of other coaches who have either played or coached for you guys.

ND and Marshall football fan so never paid too much attention to the Syracuse team to be honest….. I’m English, no affiliation to any US college so spread the teams around a little.

Ever since you took Herm, I have quite liked the Chiefs, Herm was one of my favourite coaches, so followed him when he went to the Chiefs.

St. Johns baby!

haha, I am a Johnnies fan, but I always liked Syracuse, especially since Melo. I like Boeheim, and Syracuse always seems to have a swagger, whether it is Melo, Warrick, Mcnamare or Dievendorf. Also have a few friends at the Cuse right now.

Ha well you should enjoy us going all the way this year. Andy Rautins is the man, if he gets hot during the NCAA tournament, nobody can touch us, he can hit 8-10 from free point range on any given night, just needs to get his stroke down.

Yup, you guys are amazing

Rautins was a skinny little shooter who turned into a complete guard. Wesley Johnson was always supposed to be good, but he turned out fantastic. Kris Joseph is the best bench player in the countrye, and one of the better players in the country period. Love Brandon Triche. You guys are really good. Scoop Jardine is another one, and Onawaku is a load. Tough out for sure.

And supposedly Rautins has a little brother

who is like 12 or 13 or something who can ball. Being a Rautins, you can pretty much sign him of for the Orange right now.

Yer when we first signed Andy, everyone said it was because of his dad Leo, but he has turned into a real nice player, was a good compliment off the bench last year and hit some massive shots in that 6 OT game against UCONN. Yer his little brother was at the game a couple of weeks back, and apparently he is an ace shooter, he just needs to work on his defence, but what little kid wants to work on their defence, that’s what high school is for, if you can shoot, you can probably play.

Wes Johnson is a star, pity his wrist is still bothering him from that tumble he took. Rautins and Onuaku are going to be hard to replace next year, but we have an ace recruiting class coming in, including some 7 foot Brazilian kid called Fab Mello or something like that lol perfect for the Orange.

Yeah, anybody named Mello

is probably okay by Cuse fans, eh?

Oh yeah

I was an Andy Rautins fan from day one. He had a sweet stroke that I loved to watch. I used to get so mad that Boeheim would play Devendorf all game and not ever let Rautins in.

Rautins is the oil to the Syracuse machine. If you notice, the only time the other team gets on a run is when he is on the bench.

I do wish Mookie Jones would get more playing time. He is a very good outside shooter.

I think Scoop is playing at a much higher level than ever before. He should be starting over Brandon Triche.

I am hating that we will be losing Onuaku, Rautins, and Wesley…..but we will be getting Dion Waiters, Fab Melo, CJ Fair, and a big guy from Oak Hill. Plus you get Mookie playing more and Kris Joseph starting in place of Wesley. We shouldnt miss a beat.

I would rank these as our needs for a 2-round draft

1. OLB
2. FS
(going at current conditions, meaning without a free agent signing at those positions)
However if a phenomenally good DE or DT is available in round 1, I would consider him as well.
