Poll: Mike Tannenbaum Approval Rating

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum has been hard at work since the offseason ended.

Unfortunately, most of it though, has been a freeing-up of money to spend in the future. It is likely he will be making a big move at some point, but nothing of that nature has been rumored to be in the works as of yet.

The only "favorable" trade for GangGreen, was the Cromartie acquisition.

Kerry Rhodes was traded for some later round picks/bad value, and today the non-tendered Wallace Wright was lost with nothing gained in return. And Kellen Clemens, Brad Smith, and Leon were all tendered at the same level?

Mike T has been a magician during the last two offseasons. With this one beginning, how do you rate his performance thus far?

I’m a yes right now, because he has done a great job putting the core together, but the off-season really has not gone as I had hoped so far, so ask me again next year and this might of changed.

Its hard to say right now. We’re in store for more, plus the draft. But I voted yes. I love the Cromartie trade and dumping Jones. Both were ballsy moves that helped the team. Dumping Lito is a no brainer, so he gets no credit for that. The Rhodes trade can only be judged when we find out who the starting FS will be when we enter the 2010 season. The rest of the moves were minor and insignificant.

Yup, didnt give him credit for dumping Lito because any GM would refuse a $10 Mil. roster bonus for a vet who you didnt even start in your biggest game of the year (AFC Championship). Had to be done.

I second your analysis.

Wright move gives us shot at another’s FA, no? And, we’re still waiting to see if anyone moves on Leon, B. Smith, M. Douglas, Feely, et al. If Leon goes, it’s another #2. If B. Smith goes — doubtful — still another #2. Imagine having three #2s in this draft!. I hope we don’t lose Douglas, who’s still a force on the DL.

I’m surprised to not hear anything at all on Feely. You guys hear anything?

Nothing. Have been on him on Twitter begging him to stay also, lol. Has not said or hinted anything either way (not surprising though). Nothing from Mike T either.

Think he is actually in Hawaii vacationing right now w/ family.

Thanks, Matt. Just find it strange that best available kicker out there right now and no ‘buzz’. I’m still really nervous about losing him. You know: 4th down, inside the other team’s 30 and out comes ? to kick the FG.

by GPB on Mar 8, 2010 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think many people are worrying about kicker right now, usually that comes later in the off-season. Jay is just off playing some golf, chilling with his kids, hopefully there is no buzz surrounding him and he returns to the Jets next season.

Never a fan...

He’s a Money guy,he can work the cap like no one else, but someone else should be making the personnel decisions.

Also, he should already know better then to let the team apparently go into the season with the current crop of backup QBs.

If they would have let Clemens walk, we could have signed any FA QB. Tendering Clemens means that slot is still taken due to the Final 8 Rules.

What kind of retarded question is this?

Poll – RIGHT NOW – How many people here are on dope?… Tannenbaum? Let’s recap: The guy fired his friend because he thought it would improve the team, hired a coach the fans and the city love and who built the #1 defense in the league, contributed to the drafts that put the core talent on this team (don’t make me run down the names), oh, and also picked up a franchise QB along the way and was part of an administration that put the Jets in only their 3rd AFC Title game in the last 40 freakin’ years. So, um, yeah – I think I can live with him letting go of Wallace Wright.

First of all come down from that ridiculously high horse you seem to be perching on at the minute. Second of all don’t jump to conclusions, we know that the majority of people who voted no on this poll are in fact Dolphin fans because they advertised the fact they were going to do it. Secondly this is a reasonable post to reveal what people think of the job he has done in general, you don’t like the fact we are asking, that’s tough, ignore it if you must. Three believe it or not, you don’t have to run down the names, we have a pretty good idea of his moves, and if someone thinks that they are not beneficial to the team they have a right to say so. So instead of making sweeping generalizations about members being ‘on dope’, stop and act civilized and ask who voted no and why. What you will find is that very few Jets fans did, this is an open site, available to all fans RIGHT NOW……

I voted No

and I’m a Jets fan. It has nothing to do with Wallace.

We have No Backup QB right now, Tannebaum seems to be continuing his trend of making moves more based on the salary cap then talent, and I’ve just never liked the guy.

Is Sanchez already a Franchise QB? The future of the Jets are on his shoulders, but he hasn’t done anything to show he’s more then an average QB right now. I think after season one you knew that Big Ben, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco were all the long term answer for the team. I still worry bout the possibility of Sanchez being a bust.

Agreed. We are a community that is open to discussion, but the negativity and name-calling can be left at the door.

We are open to opinions from BOTH SIDES, not just one.

Calm down bro, we’re on the same team! I’m not disputing anyone’s right to their opinion, but how could you logically argue as a Jets fan that we’re not markedly better under Tannenbaum’s tenure? Of course Dolphins fans hate the guy; when we sucked, Tannenbaum was out there signing every free agent who wasn’t nailed down including one of the best QB’s in history. A more appropriate question is whether he’s one of the best GM’s in football, if you asked me. We are extremely fortunate with what we’ve endured as fans of this team, to have a current administration that focuses on winning as aggressively as they do. I’m just being grateful.

Leave your personal attacks at the door

Tone it down a bit. You can’t come in saying

What kind of retarded question is this?

Poll – RIGHT NOW – How many people here are on dope?

And then telling others to calm down. You’re welcome to your opinion, but next time you post, re-read what youve said.

Responding to your above post, you were also incorrect regarding what this poll was about. You keep talking about his history, and thats fine, but the poll was: "how do you rate his performance thus far?

I don't want to rush to judgment

So I won’t vote for now.
My impression of Tannenbaum is that he’s a wheeler-dealer type. He makes business decisions. They are about football players, but they’re business and money-oriented. He’s also a master poker player – his moves are often unexpected.
I wonder what his discussions with Rex on personnel moves are like. I don’t see any sign of friction between them.

Besides Cromartie a bad Offseason for Mike T so far

I give credit to mike for getting antonio, so someone can play on the other side of the island but kerry rhodes in my opinon was not a great decison he just had a pretty good postseason and i was lookin forward to see what hed do this season and we got next to nothing, if we knew we were gonna trade him we should have traded him to the giants a lot earlier they where intrested and they would have gave more i mean they just made rolle the highest paid safety in nfl history, tj im 50 50 on, but letting go of murrel and my boy wallace wright when we could of matched offers should have been done they add a nice depth and argubaly our best wo special team tacklers besides the tackling machine feely, who was insulted by Mike T when we signed NIck Folk !?!?! Folk sucks i will never understand this signing its throwing away money the offseason aint over but ,for mike T to do his job in my eyes he has to get a replacment for kerry maybe clevleands pool or st louis’s otogwe, resign leon revis and mangold all to long term deals, and also for Mike to have a great offseason to also get an olb that can rush(hopefully ne lets go off adaleius),get a solid draft and trade gholston for a coke
