Jets Release Donald Strickland

Newsday Jets beat reporter Rod Boone has tweeted that the Jets have released the oft injured Corner

Although I thought he played well when he was on the field, he simply was not on the field enough. We need reliable corners who we can count on if we want to challenge great passing attacks like the Colts. His injury gave even more playing time to Drew Coleman, and that's is something that we can't have.

I fully expect us to be scouring the market for a veteran corner, we are pretty thin right now, with Revis/Cromartie and then Lowery and Coleman. Still hoping someone is stupid enough to give us a 6th for Coleman. I think we need a veteran to add to the group.

Corey Ivy is often mentioned and he worked out with us last year......what's Ty Law doing these days *joke*

I still wouldnt be against drafting one. He could be our nickel guy and return specialist. Give him a year watching and working with two of the best can’t hurt. Not much drop off in talent if one of the starters get hurt. Won’t hurt as much if we lose Cro or Revis (blasphemy) after 2010.

I wouldn’t either, and from what I’ve heard McCourty can help out on special teams also.

Good move to drop Strick though, too inconsistent. Had to be done.

According to Tim Graham the Dolphins AFC East blogger for ESPN, Mike T just said that the Jets are still looking for corners and that had he not got Cromartie they may have been forced to draft one in the first round.

Seems to hint we won’t draft a corner in the first round…….doesn’t mean we won’t go there in the 2nd. I’m not sure why, I just have a feeling that we will either try and draft Ricky Sapp or Golden Tate. No real reason for it, just a feeling.

Seems kinda weird that he would be giving intentions away like that >_>

I’m all fingers and toes-crossed for Tate at #1. After that, it depends on acquiring more picks. If no more picks and TJ doesn’t come back, an RB with #2.

Keep'em crossed, because it ain't happening sweetie.

I don't like this. I know Strickland is injury prone, but he has good size

covers fairly well and tackles well for his position. I would have liked to keep him here as a nickel/dime.

I liked Strickland too, but since he couldn’t stay on the field, that’s a roster spot we can better use elsewhere.

I’d rate Ivey’s cover skills as poor. If we’re looking for somebody reliable, I hope we go in a different direction.

i think lowery is a good nickel but i definitely think we need another quality corner to add to the mix. fred smoot is available now that the redskins released him. i dont know much about him but he will probably be considered. over the next couple of days there will probably be more corners who will be released that we can add to our list of options.

Another quality corner? Really? Even though we had the best pass D last year with Lito (and he missed 6 games)? And we just seriously upgraded.

by Crackback on Mar 5, 2010 6:24 PM EST up reply actions

Depth issue

We had a major upgrade at starter, the issue now is a player for nickel/dime packages and insurance in case somebody gets injured. If Revis had gotten hurt last year we would have been in trouble and not in the playoffs.
