The Titans' nearly miraculous run from an 0-6 start to the Playoffs fell just short a year ago. JGrill77 wants to help Tennessee avoid such a rough start this year. From this point forward, I'll be flying solo breaking down the picks so David can spend his time focusing on his great prospect profiles.
With the sixteenth pick in the Gang Green Nation Community Mock Draft, JGrill77 picks for the Tennessee Titans...
The Titans ranked 31st in the league in passing defense last year, allowing 259 ypg in the air and 31 TDs. Kyle Wilson can not only come in and start immediately but make come in and make an impact immediately. Drafting the 2nd best cornerback prospect in a very deep draft will also minimize the increasing need for a great pass rusher. Wilson is not only a potential stud at CB but he's also a return specialist, something the Titans also desperately need after ranking 25th in the league in punt return average. The more and more I look at the Titans holes, the more and more this pick makes sense to me. Wilson is a playmaker through and through and will be for years to come.
Defense is clearly a priority for the Titans. Wilson is a guy the Titans can pair with Cortland Finnegan for a long time. This pick will give them one of the top cornerback duos in the league. The other starting slot was definitely an issue in 2009.
With that said, I think Tennessee should consider focusing on the defensive line if things pan out this way. I think Wilson is a bit of a reach here. The Giants just picked Morgan, but Brandon Graham could help ease the loss of Kyle Vanden Bosch. They could try to develop Dan Williams into the force Albert Haynesworth was.
What are your thoughts on the pick?
