Rex Puts Up a Smokescreen on Kickers

Rod Boone catches a quote from Rex on the newest Jets kicker:

"We’ll see. We’re always open to any situation. But right now we’ve got Nick Folk and we are happy to have him"

It kind of reminds me of how the Jets felt good about the Clemens/Ainge/Ratliff quarterback situation or Stuckey/Clowney/Britt Davis at receiver last year.

I couldn't tell you whether Feely will be back, but I'd have to imagine there will be competition for Folk in camp. It could end up a lot like 2009's offseason of fifty punters.

Praying Feely returns. Not optimistic though.

Speaking of which, do you think there will be a 2010 offseason of fifty punters as well? I’m actually feeling more confident with Folk coming in (hopefully with a little competition like you said) than I am with Weatherford staying. I want to see some competition in there with him as well.

He visited Arizona on Saturday didn’t he, so almost a week, although they roomed together, I really can’t see Jay and Kerry being too close. I ope Jay holds off on signing a deal until we realise that it would be a good idea to actually have a reliable kicker.
