Kam Chancellor, Safety, #17 Va Tech

S Kam Chancellor Highlights/Lowlights 2009/2008 Virginia Tech (via ProDraftParty)

6'4", 230, 4.6. Projected approximately 4th round.

Nice size and athleticism. He's hawkish, and seems to play the ball rather than the man on passing plays. I find this refreshing because usually guys his size like to go for the hi-lite hit. Although he plays the ball on the pass, he's definitely not one to shy from contact. He seems to provide excellent run-support and is no doubt a physical presence. This guy WILL lay the wood. He's seems to be a playmaker. When the ball is in his vicinity, he attacks.

His weakness is his speed, or lack thereof.. As you'll see in the beginning of the video against Alabama, man coverage is not his strong suit. He seemed to have been exploited again and again when matched on a receiver in man to man. He seems to be at his best when dropping back and reading the QB and making a play on the ball. Well... that and when he's flying down hill to uncork a running back.

I like this guy. I think he could flourish in our attack defense where we get to the QB quickly and have excellent cover corners. He can do what he does best: hawk and blow up the run game. Spending a year behind Pool and learning the D and getting coached up would do him wonders.
