Saturday Night Open Thread
Just trying something a little new here, something that a lot of SB Nation blogs do.
Just leaving a general open thread for members to discuss anything, football or otherwise.
With so much basketball going on right now, Kansas just being taken down by Northern Iowa, plenty to talk to.
So will take this for a test run here in the fan posts section.

How much did Kansas losing wreck everyone’s bracket?
Had them as an Elite 8 team, but had Ohio State beating them to be in the final four

I don’t know anything about college basketball but everyone was saying how Kansas was the only “elite” team in the tournament. How they would win every game by double digits. Sorry that it ruined your bracket but I love when the experts are wrong, haha.

It might actually work quite well for me, because I had them doing well, but a lot of people had them going to the final 4, and I had them being eliminated in the elite 8, so if Ohio State come out of that area as the representative in the final 4, I’m laughing, because most people had Kansas.

Ha, sorry to hear that man, but there are plenty of people who had them going all the way. I think Obama even had Kansas taking the whole thing.

lol I only had Louisville in the final four that has been eliminated so far….
No idea why I had them there, I guess their two wins against us this year went to my head

My bracket was messed up from the start. I have Syracuse beating Kentucky by a score of Syracuse 67- Kentucky 72. Yeah, you read that right.
I think when the slogan said “dream the impossible”, it didn’t mean that ;-)
I have Syracuse beating West Virginia, I think by a score of 72-69

I had Kansas going out sweet 16 vs Maryland,
with Ohio St going to the final 4. Seems like this shook tons of brackets though. Still got my 4, Duke, Cuse, Ohio St, Kentucky

David I saw you said you would be ok if Jets drafted Iupati. Come on, you know something would be thrown at the tv if that actually happened. I still can’t picture them going offense. The whole 3 picks we had last year went to offense, it’s the D’s turn.
What I really meant was that if they view a player that is unmissable, regardless of need then I would trust that judgement. Although personally I want to go and see us take a defensive lineman or a rush backer. Lupati wouldn’t quite make me throw something at the TV, although I would be disappointed for sure, because at #29, I want an impact player.
Just to add on to this that Red Bulls opened the new arena with a 3-1 win over Santos FC tonight, a nice start, saw 40 minutes or so of it.

Beautiful day today in the New York area.
The family hijacked me and so I couldn’t get the Flight Connections up. O-Welles, slow news day anyway. I hope you all had a great day, too.

Heard that it was nice in the NY area today, and looked like a warm evening from the Red Bulls game.
Has been a very slow news day, I guess Mike T was doing similar to yourself, spending some time with the family. I do wonder sometimes just how much chance he gets to spend with his wife lol

I guess there are really no more major moves to be made before the draft unless Adalius gets cut then there will be some buzz.
I guess they are gonna see what the draft gives them before they consider Coles.

I think we are looking pretty good right now, I don’t think Mike needs to do too much more meddling, with a good draft, we have a great base for 2010 and beyond……

I don’t think this really qualifies as news, but on a slow day, I guess it is: Mike T. basically saying the Cromartie trade helped our draft because now we can do… well.. anything.
Yer, it’s nice to have options, I think it was one of the worst kept secrets, that had it not been for that trade, we would of had no choice but to go early in the draft.
Let’s hope that Cromartie turns back time to his 07 season.

We should definitely trade down and pick up a 2nd and a 3rd rounder

Mike does keep mentioning the possibility, and although he is obviously just not committing to one idea over the other, I can’t remember him even mentioning moving down in the past.

I would be pleased with that move. Pick up a DE/MLB and Gerhert in the 2nd then shipley in the 3rd.

Generally I like them, but some are hit and miss with me, “Mars Attacks” and “Corpse Bride” I really didn’t like, but them I liked “Big Fish” and “Sweeney Todd” as well as some of his earlier stuff like “Edward Scissorhands”

He did the Nightmare Before Christmas also. Danny Elfman the composer he always works with actually did the singing voice of Jack in that movie.

I liked him in Oingo Boingo as well back in the eighties. Some good songs like Weird Science and Dead Man’s Party, which he performed in a Rodney Dangerfield movie.
Dumped Edgar Renteria and adopted Buster Posey. Biggest upgrade since George Jefferson moved up to a deluxe apartment on the east side!

I loved Corpse Bride thats my favorite from him. I didn’t see Sweeney Todd. Big Fish was good. He also directed Batman and Batman Returns.

Was never a big Batman guy until the Dark Knight, did watch Batman Returns after though and that was quite good. Sweeney Todd I liked, I had seen the original numerous times when I was a kid.

I'm thinking of starting a thread
about why we like the Jets. Like for example, I started following because of Boomer Esiason. I wanted to post it up during this off-season. The only thing is, should I ask the members to post their reasons in the comments, or should I encourage them to put up a fanpost?

Umm, I think a comments discussion will bring it together a little bit better, it’s a nice idea though. Would have to think back to the reason why I started liking the Jets, because right now, I can’t really think off too many.

Geno Atkins, DT, Georgia
Supposed to be explosive and causes a lot of havoc in opposing backfields, but too small to play DT (6-1, 295) in NFL. Was thinking he might be a nice DE in a 3-4 for us though. I can’t find any video on him. Anyone know anything about the guy?
I did start to look at him, but read that he was only started a handful of games in 2009 because he lacked effort, and the inconsistency would drive his coaches mad. Might be a guy to look at if he is there in the 4th, but I wouldn’t want him as a first or second round pick, and I think he gets drafted in the 3rd at some point. Attitude/motivation is always a big red flag for me when it comes to football, he seems more motivated in academics than to go out and hit people.

Yeah i read the same. I also read, though, that their line suffered a bunch of injuries and he was getting a lot of attention, often double-teamed. I agree, no way do we look at him before the 3rd. But I would be willing to take a flier on him in the 4th. If he’s as explosive and dispruptive as they say at DT, he might be tough to handle at DE. Read he gave Iupati fits at the Senior Bowl too.
Yer not surprised to hear that, but if he is commanding so much attention with the other talent around him being out. The motivation problem and attitude problem, must of been pretty severe for him to only start a handful of games.
