The Jets Sign Special Teamer LB Lance Laury
Mike Westhoff's unit had some voids to fill. As a result, the Jets have signed LB Lance Laury (a special teams ace). He recorded 63 special teams tackles in four seasons in Seattle.
Laury is coming off a great season, where he recorded 21 tackles and a forced fumble.
This is what Field Gulls wrote about him in February:
"Seattle has been very patient with Laury, but he never developed as a linebacker and was a marginal special teams player. Laury will probably sign to a team that has less linebacker depth, get cut, bounce around for a while and then retire. All in all, not a bad NFL career."

Laury? We signed a girl to play special teams? Westhoff must be pissed!
Dumped Edgar Renteria and adopted Buster Posey. Biggest upgrade since George Jefferson moved up to a deluxe apartment on the east side!

Something doesn't make sense
Is he a “marginal special teams player” or a “special teams ace”??? I guess it’s all a matter of perspective. A nice replacement for Wallace Wright nonetheless.
Good eyes.
We’ve got a few special teams vacancies, so this move seems solid enough.
I had heard that he was more the special teams ace than the marginal special teams players. It’s hard to evaluate personally because don’t see too many special team highlight reels lol

I guess it's a fine line
between “ace” and “marginal” when you are talking special teamers. They only get a handful of opportunities per game to begin with, so we’re talking about a difference of maybe 5-10 tackles and 1-2 forced turnovers making the distinction.
