Assessing the Defense
I have been a fan of Gang Green for a while now. Over the last few off seasons I have been almost as excited as during the season watching all the movement to improve the team. I like the moves that have been made so far this year, but I wanted to hear the feedback of others.
Kerry Rhodes trade...was it good or bad?
Cromartie and Revis in the same secondary is an awesome thought...Do you agree?
We brought in Brodney Pool....Do you think this will fill the need at FS or should we go after maybe a guy like Sharper or pursue a Safety through the Draft?
Here is a long shot...We now have a bunch of picks in this years draft, do you think that we will be making any last minute swaps to move up in the 1st round? and if so who do you think will be worth the gamble?
Again, I'm thrilled that the Jets have come alive and are working hard to win games even in March. I feel that last year, defensively was a great season if we go by stats. There were a few games that we gave up late scores that cost us the win, so there was a need for improvement. I like the steps that have been taken so far to make that leap, overall I believe that next years D will be even more dominate espically in "Crunch Time". But I wanna hear what you think.

Kerry Rhodes was definitely a good move, he was crying because he was no longer the central point of a good unit. He wasn’t giving his all, ship him out to shut him up. We need a unit, not individual players who put their ego before the team.
Cromartie and Revis will be an amazing combination in press coverage, and if we can get pressure on the QB, and force bad throws, either or both could have career years, interception wise. Cromartie needs to improve his tackling, and he admit that, and that’s what the off-season is for.
Brodney Pool is the man, completely under-rated signing, in this defense with the corners on lock, he will be more than capable, his numbers compare well to Rhodes, he just tackles better. He’s a good guy as well, who doesn’t care for the spotlight. We haven’t even had the chance to hear from him yet. We could go safety a little later in the draft, but we don’t need to go early
We have a few picks, but wouldn’t say a bunch. 1st/2nd/4th/5th/6th. A few picks but not a great deal, we don’t under any circumstances need to use later ones to move up. Talent pool is too deep and we need depth. I think we are sitting in a good position right now with those draft picks.

Well Said
Kerry was a baby. Brodney is not a player that I know much about, I have heard some worries of a concussion problems, but I hope that he pans out to be as good of an addition as you predict. Who do you think we take then @ 29?

For me I think we are looking at four players mainly, Jared Odrick DE/DT from Penn State, Jerry Hughes OLB/DE from TCU, Golden Tate, WR from Notre Dame and Brandon Graham DE/OLB from Michigan.
Personally would be happy with any of those guys

i agree with all of those guys but i still think drafting a corner or safety with our 1st pick would be a good move if we cant get those guys for whatever reason. in many of the mock drafts ive seen, the pats take odrick and hughes and graham range from 15-32. tate seems to fall to or past us but if a great value corner or safety fall to us i would be more than happy. in this heavy passing game especially when we play the pats twice and if we run into peyton again, we will need an abundance of quality corners. having a strong nickel back is extremely valuable. also with this defense you cant have enough playmaking safeties on the roster. im sure rex would love to have a toy like taylor mays for blitz packages.
I also like kyle wilson at #29, it may not be wise to be pass up on Hughes or Tate at #29 but Kyle is pretty good

- The Rhodes trade I think is good for those “team chemistry” type issues. I think he would have done fine with us this year but the attitude seemed to be getting old. We needed the draft pics, now we just need to make good picks.
- Revis / Cromartie has the potential to be one of the best tandems. Depends more on Antonio of course. Ironically it might be that at the end of the season Cro might have double-digit picks, but we here will still know who the real superstar is.
- Pool – Good solid pick up. We don’t need a marquee name at every position. Concussions are a worry, but got to have faith.
- Draft – I think we are setting ourselves up nicely through FA (which I never thought they could pull off this off season). It seems we have improved in some areas of need leaving the draft for us to just pile on the riches. I say we keep our picks, too rich of a draft. My opinion would be Hughes-Shipley/Gerhart (if we lose Leon)-Rolle.
Yes my peeps I think we are going to see what is on the other side of the rainbow for once.
Essentially its Kerry Rhodes
for Poole and a 4th this year and 7th next year is a very favorable trade. We may have gotten worse talent, but the effort level should be better and team D should improve. Sharper would be a good pickup because of Poole’s injury concern but would you rather have Sharper or Jay Feely back?
I think we need a guy like Odrick because we have Ellis and Devito at end currently, and ideally I’d love a late pick late Adrian Tracy from W&M. He has displayed that he is as athletic as Hughes and Graham, but is still raw having faced lesser competition.
And the scary thought for me is having Lowery as the nickel. I’d love another corner to play teams that are pass heavy. Also Cromartie doesnt have a contract after this season.
Good Point
I like Lowery, but I do worry how he matches up with some of the better slot receivers out there i.e. Welker. I have noticed that just today there have been a few hyped names to be released like Nathan Vasher he was a probowler and Tye Hill the former 1st round pick…It will be intresting to see if the Jets make a move to bring either of these guys for a visit, they should be very low risk because they were both released.

best available after going offense to help sanchez and special teams
then , the draft is deep with defense and adding rex type guys to all three levels to build for the future. nobody is mentioning the LB’s that may fall to the jets.
We're not drafting offense.
We’re going to use a first round pick to help special teams? They are going defense in the first round, with a very outside chance at a running back. Look for whoever they consider the best available on the board out of Hughes, Kindle, Graham, Odrick, maybe even McCourty, Wilson, or one of those corners. In my opinion, a good third corner is 10x more important then a good 3rd receiver, unless they feel it’s a perfect slot guy like Shipley (who is the only receiver I have any interest in for the first 4 rounds, especially with only 2 early picks), because defending the pass is soooooooooo much more important to the Jets then passing is.
"Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring; besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic."

Defense is more important
I would like to see them get a FS that has good coverage skills like Owusu-Ansah or Morgan Burnett in the 2nd or the 4th…I can’t wait to see what happens.

Man listen....
You are reading my mind dude!!!! Owusu-Ansah would be an extremely good sleeper pick in the late rounds… I hope we get him!
We need a strong pass rush without sending more than 4-5 players and then when we blitz hard opposing teams would have no chance. I mentioned in another post that our priorities are Dline, OLB, Oline. Keep these strong and everything will fall into place. With a great pass rush the secondary will automatically be stronger, the other teams can’t score, our offense has more chances, their defense wears out, running game passing game flourishes. Not too worried about running backs or receivers. We need to control the lines on both sides of the ball. Domination!
